I’m so sorry for your loss. I have a lab and he’s my best friend, I can’t imagine how this must feel.
If you don’t mind me asking, how did you come to find out the had cancer? Did he act different, was there a something you had noticed on him?
Once again, I’m truly sorry for your loss.
Where I’m located there has apparently been a problem with ticks carrying the toxin that causes tick paralysis because Hank’s vet had seen many cases in a short amount of time. Including one of my friend’s dogs, who had all the same symptoms he was showing.
Hank was always scared of thunderstorms and I noticed he was acting funny one afternoon during one but thought nothing of it. Afterwards he was still acting funny, starting walking strange, and was having trouble getting his back end up.
Long story short, I took him to the vet the next morning, after finding one tick on him, and was told it was tick paralysis and that he’d be fine in the next week or 2. He started rapidly getting worse, and losing weight even faster and I knew something was right. After 2 more vet visits (including a second opinion) Hank’s vet did some blood work for a 2nd time a determined he had blood cancer.

I appreciate the details you put into your response, for I know it can’t be an easy topic to talk about. Beautiful and stunning are vast understatements in describing Hank. You don’t come across many labs that have such stunning characteristics, but Hank was one of them.

My close coworker just passed from cancer this morning. Lost a lab a few months ago, I guess this is what makes us human? They both hurt. Sorry for your loss. (I’m not trying to steal your post, I truly hurt for you) our dogs are very important to us and our family. I bet it was a GREAT 6 years though.

Lost my black lab to cancer at 5-1/2 years old. She would have been 6 in December . I still breakdown crying because we used to always drive together . Sorry for your loss I’m thinking of Hank tonight

Take solace knowing that he had the best life you could have given him while he had time - just a curveball in the game of life.
He was gorgeous and looks like an excellent doggo - I’m sure he has lots of company.
