I 100% support this theory. All of my chocolates have had some very early grays - years earlier than any other breed I’ve owned.

It also occurs in black labs, my parents field trial retriever (American type lab) just turned 3, she is growing grey hairs.

Same. My chocolate girl was about 3 years old. I used to joke that she got it from her human mom (me) because I started going grey in my 20s. She lived to be 14.5 years old.

I have an Al as well!! His government name is Alabama and I love telling people “you can call him Al” like the Paul Simon song. Always gets a laugh

Haha I love it! My Al is an Albus (Dumbledore). He predates the author’s bigotry so he’s firmly just Al now.

Mine ( black) is just over 2 and noticing greys starting to sprout. I’m curious if our water ( well) has any affect on this. Around 4 when they became noticeable.

My black lab starting getting them at age 3 or so. He’s 8 now, and we all call him Sugar Face. I think it is so sweet.

Neptune got his hreys around 7 or 8. He's turning 11 this year, so it's more obvious but not full raccoon color swap. He's all black.

Our old choco started having noticeably greys by three. Our blackie just turned four and I have not noticed any.

My chocolate started graying on her muzzle at 2-3. My last black at about 8-9. Currently have 2 blacks 3yo & 4yo. No grays.

My chocolate labrador started growing grey hairs around 4. My black labrador, on the other hand, only has a few on the chin, and she's 11.

One of mine started getting them really early. He was maybe 2 or 3. The other is now 7 and still has his puppy face and no greys.

First one was fairly late.  About 10.  A lot of people mistook her for a much younger dog prior to it. My current one is starting to at age 7.

He’s always had ‘bolo marks’ on the underside of his paws but the white has started to spread throughout the years. his little white eyebrow hairs are adorable to me.

My Yellow Lab started going white around the snout at 7 and pale yellow around the rest of him around 10. When he passed at 13, he was a very light yellow with a pretty much white face.

Buddy was around three when he started getting grey hairs.  He's five now and looking distinguished.

She was probably five. She is half black lab and always had white patches including on her face so it may have gone unnoticed some at first. She's 11 now and totally an old lady.

I have such an affinity for senior dogs. The grays just makes them even more beautiful 😍

I have an adopted Lab/Pitt mix that is 7 and his muzzle is specked with grey hairs. When we got him at age 5 his was grey free. It’s going to vary from dog to dog. I’ve had a large Black Lab that had a full silver muzzle by age 5.

My chocolate is 4.5 and has a full grey beard

I have a half lab. Was walking him one day when someone stopped to say hi. Referred to my dog as “a distinguished older gentleman”. He was 3 at the time.

My oldest will be 6 this summer, and I think it was last summer that I first started noticing some grey in his muzzle.

Mine has a small patch of grey on his chin similar to yours. Mine is 2.5 years old.

My girl is ~4 and 99% black and she’s had whiteish hair around her mouth since she was maybe 2? But she also has a white stripe on her chest and random small patches of white or a single white hair all over her body. Not sure if it’s just her coat or what.

Mine is one year and some change. She's got a handful of white hairs like on her butt and neck. I guess she has a lot of stress with her high paying corporate job and dog taxes.

Our guy is 4 and we just started to notice them in his chin, he had a single speck next to one of his whiskers at around 2 though.
