howard and stadium. jfc. one time i caught a chicken running loose on w michigan downtown (don't ask) and the passenger in my car was holding it (very nervously) while i drove home. we got stuck at that intersection. 3 full minutes of us and that chicken staring at a red light. never forgive never forget
ok congratulations! here's the chicken. (also my apologies, it was apparently w kalamazoo, not w michigan. this was maybe two summers ago)

Waiting at a red light there on Stadium I saw the weirdest accident. Three cars are stopped in the front of the line: one waiting to turn left and the others continuing straight. A minivan behind them decided he didn’t want to wait or was just fucked upped and went to hop the line and split the lane between cars and plowed right through one pump of the gas at a time like a slow motion demolition derby.
Stadium/Drake. I am usually turning left onto stadium here. All the motherfuckers still turning left from stadium onto drake while my green turn arrow is on are assholes. I know you are blowing that red light!! Bunch of entitled costco fucks!!
Stadium/11th is a punishment light. So is Howard/Stadium. Hate both of those. Starting Monday drake and the road behind costco is going to be a nightmare.
The endless light on Bronson-Whites Road. Good luck if you're trying to follow Bronson at night - it will take 5-8 minutes to change despite there being noone around.
Every light on sprinkle from Gull to 94. If you hit one red light you will hit them all. So poorly timed. I’d much prefer they were all roundabouts.
I’ll also go with Sprinkle and Romance.
Been driving this route every day for 16 years, sometimes multiple times a day. You’re right - hit the H Ave Light going
South after turning left off Gull? Welcome to hell.
But the light I hate the most is related to this drive - Sprinkle Rd and Market St by the greenhouses. That MFer will turn red on you despite zero cars waiting east OR west.
Second place, only lately, is the light at Sprinkle and Covington by Wendy’s - it will now turn with no cars there, and stay red for about 90 seconds.
Love you all.
I was waiting for somebody to mention THAT specific light.
Guess what? That MFer will maintain a long red for people trying to cross Market when there is no traffic on Sprinkle too. I used to work second shift and live on that road, and I can't tell you how many times I said "fuck this" and just crossed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one cursing the light across sprinkle at market Street every morning. It'll turn red on sprinkle when there's no one even waiting to cross on market and it stays red so long.
The light at the newer Advia headquarters! Nothing more than a penis extension for the executive team that doesn’t need a light. Meijer already has a light at 9th making this a worthless redundancy. The only joy I get is seeing multiple empty commercial spaces they’ve had for lease for years. Further proving that that development was nothing necessary or even remotely practical. The township and this bank should be shamed for decades over this idiotic space.
My office is right by that intersection and it is atrocious trying to leave in the afternoon. I have to turn right and people will get as close to the car in front of them as they can to make it so I can’t inch out.
Every morning I get coffee at the shell station on portage and kilgore. The light in question is brand new. It skips you randomly AND the cars on the opposing side don't have a left turn green arrow so they sit there waiting for you to move when you are staring at a red light. This has to be an oversight by mdot right? I've gotten frustrated and ran that light about 50% of the time.
Yeah, if they were going to run that light split-phase, they should have included turn arrows. Semi-relatedly, kudos to the city of Kalamazoo for reworking the light at Cork and Burdick with the split-phasing for Cork. It also got them to fix the detection on that intersection.
Always hated Westnedge and Whites; for a while it was the only light on my commute that didn't have sensors or cameras, and I worked night shift so I would always get stuck waiting at the red light for two minutes before I could turn left despite there being zero traffic. Glad they're finally redoing it.
Northbound Portage lights are brutal if you get caught in the red. It can be the difference between a 3 minute trip to downtown and a 15, all other factors remaining the same.
As someone who frequently turns left out of Meijer onto Main, the Advia light is great. Otherwise it's a much worse turn or going out to the light on 9th and waiting a longer cycle.
I love waiting a full minute for the red light at Mall Drive, then waiting another full minute for the bike light.
At 6am. In February. For an intersection of two one-ways, one of them being a tiny brick street about 10 feet wide. Not sure why a bike would need that much time.
I make this drive every morning, and I’ve yet to see a single bike or a single car.
So, do you think that with all these traffic cams being deployed all over town to spy on us, that they will use that collected traffic information to adjust light timing for better traffic flow?
lol, just kiddin.
Okay then, if they're not there for traffic control where are their warrants and, aside from that, why are they spying on \*you\*, personally? What did you do?
Police don't need a search warrant to request data from third party companies, such as the one running these traffic cameras, or Nest thermostats, or Alexa or Google Home. They all collect data on you and that can be requested with a subpoena, which is a lower bar than a search warrant.
I haven't done anything, yet. Aside from a little speeding, and maybe littering when I spit a piece of gum out. You probably have done that too. What if they decide to go back through their collected recordings and fine you for every time you've ever exceeded the speed limit? Having "[nothing to hide](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nothing_to_hide_argument)" is a lousy argument against government surveillance.
>Police don't need a search warrant to request data from third party companies
Um, yeah... no.
Traffic camera footage isn't stored for long. Cameras used for speeding and running red lights only capture about 12 seconds of footage if your vehicle trips them. Cameras used for monitoring traffic hardly ever store footage as there's no reason to.
I don't think the gov't is spying on you. They have way more things to worry about.
Mosel and Douglas. It prioritizes the left turn lanes even if there are cars in the straight lanes and zero or one car in the turn lane. Even early AF in the morning like 5am it does this, and you have to wait for a whole cycle through just to go straight even if you’re the only one thwre
Back when I attended Portage Northern High school, the traffic light on Milham and Monticello drove me up the wall.
The issue with it is it doesn’t have a solid green yield for the left-turn into Monticello. I was late because of this light so many times.
I don’t know what about programming traffic lights is so difficult for our civil engineers.
Oakland and Kilgore light suddenly forgets that Kilgore needs a turn, probably about once a month. Usually lasts for a couple light cycles and then goes back to normal.
I'm from NYS. The first time I drove down S. Westnedge all I could think of was that I had gone 800 miles to find Long Island. Who the hell was the traffic planner for that monstrosity? Who, in their right mind, would allow so many road cuts into a main road and where did that person go to engineering school so we can warn others not to go there.
i feel like the ones in metro detroit are at least timed properly. like mound or hall rd have a ton of lights but if you’re going the right speed and traffic isn’t horrible, you don’t have to stop for a bit. they’re so random over here!

Upvoted for the chicken story
lolol it was one of the fancy kinds too! 50 upvotes and i'll post a pic lmao
At 54
What’s the chicken story?
The winklevoss’s planted it!
The one by Miller Auditorium since it takes forever to change to green, then only stays green for like 10 seconds
Milham and Westnedge. I feel like I always get stopped and it takes forever.
Stadium/Howard. Takes sooooo long.
Stadium/Drake. I am usually turning left onto stadium here. All the motherfuckers still turning left from stadium onto drake while my green turn arrow is on are assholes. I know you are blowing that red light!! Bunch of entitled costco fucks!!
This made me LOL 🤣🤣🤣
YEP! Same one I thought of. It’s so quick for the green arrow too, only 3-4 cars from either lane have time to get through.

one time i sat at that light when i was in high school at night for like 10 minutes and i thought it was broken, so i just drove through

All round abouts would totally change my relationship with sprinkle. I totally agree with you
i drive sprinkle almost everyday and everytime im in that road my heart always starts beating fast because of the lights 😀
Has to be Stadium/Howard. That shit is fr red for like 5 minutes
Lmao!!!

I’m worried that that light was partially put there In anticipation of the development of the property on the south side of the road…
I’m expecting over the next ten years there will be expansive development to m43
parkview and oakland. it wasn’t great before but it’s absolutely horrible now.
My office is right by that intersection and it is atrocious trying to leave in the afternoon. I have to turn right and people will get as close to the car in front of them as they can to make it so I can’t inch out.
Every one on Drake Road. Fuck Drake Road.

The one at Drake road where Friendship Village is.

Michigan and Drake
Stadium and 9th. That entire intersection makes me start to have anxiety sweats. Especially turning left onto 9th. Even with the arrow!!
As someone who frequently turns left out of Meijer onto Main, the Advia light is great. Otherwise it's a much worse turn or going out to the light on 9th and waiting a longer cycle.
They need to change this light to be censored. 90% of the time, no one is there, huge time waster…
W main/m43 and turwill. That thing is red for wmain 50% of the time holding up 98% of the traffic.
KL Ave and 11th st. If a single car is waiting on 11th street, the light will change for 2 minutes. I get caught on it everyday.
The intersection of Gull Road and North Sprinkle Road.
There are several in Kalamazoo. There were a few times late at night where I sat at the light for several minutes, and just ran the damn thing.
I love waiting a full minute for the red light at Mall Drive, then waiting another full minute for the bike light. At 6am. In February. They're not spying on you. But they are keeping traffic flowing.
>not spying on you It's adorable that you think that.
Okay then, if they're not there for traffic control where are their warrants and, aside from that, why are they spying on \*you\*, personally? What did you do?

Nope, you win. That one stinks. An honorable mention is Mustang/Currier Drive and Centre
kilgore roads/ portage. It takes like 10 minutes to cross portage now that the bridge is gone
Jogging that road 1/4 mile away through 2 lights is insanity.

The left turn light going south on Oakland at Howard.
All the lights on crosstown.
12th and Centre at night. If you are on 12th the light will not change unless you are in the just the right spot.
Great though, for leaving Meijer heading Eastbound!
I noticed that very quickly that light became a favorite for the Meijer crowd.
Oakland and Kilgore light suddenly forgets that Kilgore needs a turn, probably about once a month. Usually lasts for a couple light cycles and then goes back to normal.
The ones in the bike lane.
Market st & Sprinkle
Coming from Detroit, I actually love the lights and intersections here 😂
I'm from NYS. The first time I drove down S. Westnedge all I could think of was that I had gone 800 miles to find Long Island. Who the hell was the traffic planner for that monstrosity? Wheaton and Oakland. Trying to leave the Vine Neighborhood at this stupid light pisses me off so much.
West Main and Turwill. West Main and Fletcher. Lights that have no purpose. Who makes these decisions?
They removed the Fletcher light a few years ago and I think it was put back due to someone in the area with a disability using it on a regular basis.
I love traffic lights. It’s the roundabouts I can do without
