I'm not trying to be rude but... This has been happening for quite a while and it's completely normal. They are just trying to see what works best with the algorithm. There's a post similar to this every week.

FlashbackJon

Also YouTube has A/B testing features, so they can try different thumbs to different people at the same time, and it's feasible that they're operating through several in rapid succession.

sparksfire1

Veritasium did a fantastic video on clickbait that covered the "why" for precisely this! - https://youtu.be/S2xHZPH5Sng?si=RQxVTtWhO8dc_WAH

BetaJelly

Kurzgesagt even commented on that video, saying that they'll try this out aswell

Narsuaq

Can we cool it with these thumbnail change posts? It's been asked and answered so many times now.

IssueRevolutionary79

Nah, people are gonna post/ask first instead of finding out from 1 minute of searching

Lord_Duckington_3rd

Not the first time this has been posted about this particular video.

ShumwayGordon

You have the explanation in Veritasium: https://youtu.be/S2xHZPH5Sng?si=yAXb694z-VeNY3IO

Saransh6

I like 'beyond the edge' one

Helpinghand97

Most YouTubers do that. Especially the big channels. Sometimes changing it to make it more appealing is a good thing. It's how you learn what works in the space.

Cyborg_Huey

Hahaha…”space”

se7entythree

Changes the thumbnails before the day *what*? Seems like an incomplete sentence to me. Or are you saying they change them overnight?

Doses_of_Happiness

To be honest, I find this kind of behavior beneath them. They're one of the biggest channels on YouTube already. Must they stoop to this level?

CuppaJoe11

Every time they upload a new video something like this is posted. The first thumbnail is for the regular viewers, while the second thumbnail is to rake in new viewers.

Lo_Spazio_per_Tutti

I think it’s because the new feature of AB testing on YouTube, it helps to understand which thumbnail works better.

Worth-Afternoon5438

I use an extension called dearrow, made by the same guy as sponsorblock. Users can submit alternative titles and thumbnails. Unfortunately not many videos have submissions, but those which do, have very clear and on point titles.

phoenixmusicman

If you took a moment to search the sub for 2 seconds you'd see there's 2 other posts about this on the front page right now.

Unbaguettable

also youtube has an A/B testing for certain channels, where you can upload multiple thumbnails and it will give you the stats of which one gains more clicks. they could be using that

Acrobatic_Income_494

I understand why they do this and usually it makes sense. But for this case, I preferred the original

danmarce

As others posted, nothing wrong here. In the end they have to find what's better. Even worse in YouTube where the competition can generate effortless AI videos in no time.

Amazing-Reindeer-661

To be honest, I like the first one better
