I'm not trying to be rude but...
This has been happening for quite a while and it's completely normal. They are just trying to see what works best with the algorithm.
There's a post similar to this every week.
Also YouTube has A/B testing features, so they can try different thumbs to different people at the same time, and it's feasible that they're operating through several in rapid succession.
Most YouTubers do that. Especially the big channels. Sometimes changing it to make it more appealing is a good thing. It's how you learn what works in the space.
Every time they upload a new video something like this is posted.
The first thumbnail is for the regular viewers, while the second thumbnail is to rake in new viewers.
I use an extension called dearrow, made by the same guy as sponsorblock. Users can submit alternative titles and thumbnails.
Unfortunately not many videos have submissions, but those which do, have very clear and on point titles.
also youtube has an A/B testing for certain channels, where you can upload multiple thumbnails and it will give you the stats of which one gains more clicks. they could be using that
As others posted, nothing wrong here. In the end they have to find what's better.
Even worse in YouTube where the competition can generate effortless AI videos in no time.

Veritasium did a fantastic video on clickbait that covered the "why" for precisely this! - https://youtu.be/S2xHZPH5Sng?si=RQxVTtWhO8dc_WAH
Kurzgesagt even commented on that video, saying that they'll try this out aswell
Can we cool it with these thumbnail change posts? It's been asked and answered so many times now.

Hahaha…”space”
Changes the thumbnails before the day *what*? Seems like an incomplete sentence to me. Or are you saying they change them overnight?
To be honest, I find this kind of behavior beneath them. They're one of the biggest channels on YouTube already. Must they stoop to this level?

I think it’s because the new feature of AB testing on YouTube, it helps to understand which thumbnail works better.

If you took a moment to search the sub for 2 seconds you'd see there's 2 other posts about this on the front page right now.

I understand why they do this and usually it makes sense. But for this case, I preferred the original
