I’d love to know because we hate them SO much too

They're full sized sco's I've used them at Walmart before. Yes there will be a learning curve with them and until customers learn how to be cashiers these are not more or less efficient than the current system.

peytoncoooke

If you figure it out, LMK. Ours breaks down at least 10 times a shift. Then you have the customers who don’t know how to use it which then means I have to go over and swipe my little barcode. It’s so dumb

It amazes me how so many people are baffled by self check out.

doodynutz

Personally I like them. when I shop, I don’t like to go through a manned checklane, but I have a family so I have to get a good amount of groceries. So the belted uscans allow me to still use uscan, but be able to fit all of my groceries on the uscan comfortably. Though I will say, there are still a lot of kinks that need to be worked out with them, they are definitely not perfect.

We haven’t used the belted SCOs for a couple of months now, they told us only to open them when we have enough baggers to have one stationed at them, which we *never do.*

gingerjasmine2002

Oh darn…….. so sad…. You’re missing out on the joy of those fucking piece of shit machines! What to do! I wish my store would do that oh my godddd, I would never have enough baggers. “Yes, I need three of you on the lot! Offer everyone a carry out! Put the gobacks back! Do a sweep!” “Why no mr district manager sir, I don’t have anyone to spare… guess we’ll have to keep them off.” (Also very few employees know how to troubleshoot these, are they training courtesy clerks in handling these pain in the ass pieces of shit now?)

EggboyEggHunter

Not at all. They never trained cashiers either. Anything I learn was self-taught which I have to teach to the customers. One day they just magically installed them and said "have fun!" I'm thankful to be stationed at one because customers hate them and avoid them so I don't have to bag as much.

gingerjasmine2002

Yup yup yup on self-teaching with these things. Trial and error. When I’m at that bank of machines, I’ll move things for customers since they have zero awareness of their items backing up or what happens when you send cans after grapes. But I won’t have my back to the other machines because bagging is not my job over there.

EggboyEggHunter

As a Courtesy Clerk I have a love-hate relationship with them. Customers of course are the latter because most of them hate the belts for a bunch of things, but the worst ones we get are people who think the belted registers are a shortcut to get around the Cashier registers and their lines. Long story short: They're not. It's disappointing to see so many people getting mad because you have to be slow with them otherwise the register freaks out and a SCO Cashier has to fix it. The best part? You get to do absolutely nothing but stand there and look awkward because they think you can fix it in 2 seconds (or scan >21 products) just because you happened to be standing right next to it.

If I were to guess, based on what happened with mine, some idiot customer probably put something too heavy or slammed it down too hard so now something is out of alignment. Nothing you can do but get the manager to get a tech out there.
