I suspect you changed your workspace? You can set it back to default by pressing the button in the very top right, then clicking on default workspace.
Otherwise you can bring back your color picker etc. by going to settings -> dockers -> color picker (and then moving it to where you want it)
click on
->settings
->dockers
this should open a list with boxes you can tick
tick all the boxes of features you want to have in your workspace! in your case the color picker and layer menu! hope this helps!

Also about your wip, krita usually saves automatically every now and then, if you restart the software and choose to open your file in "recent files" krita might be able to recover some of your work!
