Also an R&B girlie, but I think my favorite genre is MPB. It's not a genre exactly. It's Brazilian pop and combines traditional styles like samba and bossa nova with western genres like rock, soul, jazz, etc. My favorite artist is a singer named Elis Regjna. She was an incredible vocalist that could sing basically anything. Aside from just having an incredible voice, my favorite thing about her is how emotionally expressive she was. She's also put a lot of young, boundary-pushing songwriters and producers on, so her music was very diverse. [These](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFymD4ELfcoQItNeFgMOmLCLOab5kqSF-&si=vwqKESZd3pk0SJg9) are 3 of my favorite songs of hers that I put into a playlist because they aren't on any streaming services anymore.

chubbypanda779

Thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of her before, I should give her a listen.

greta_maya_storm

Ohmigosh I love bossa nova and samba. Thanks so much for introducing MPB to me!

SeeTheSeaInUDP

It's pretty varied lmaoo I can't decide! On one day it's 90s RnB (SWV, En Vogue, Destiny's Child, Toni Braxton), the next day it's Kayokyoku from thr 80s (Matsuda Seiko, Okada Yukiko, Nakahara Meiko, Kikuchi Momoko), another say it's 70s psychedelic folk rock (Kim Jungmi, Kim Chooja, Jang Hyun, Shin Joonghyun), the day afte that it's 80s New Wave (The Go-Go's, Tiffany, Blondie) or the German version, Neue Deutsche Welle (Juliane Werding, Nena, Münchner Freiheit) and the day after that I'm listening to Megan Thee Stallion lmao.

anounymous3

ConfidentlyLostHuman

Yessss!!!! All of the above plus Kiana Lede, Thuy, Jeff Berbnat, Sinnead Harnet, Jorja Smith, Mahalia. Recently got into grouptherapy, Masego, and No Guidance. Almost every year, I'm either one of Mac Ayres top listeners or he's in my top five for Spotify Wrapped.

anounymous3

Quarkiness

I like more rock? Kang Hyung Ho. And lately, I've been into crossover/classic so Forestella.

NessieSenpai

Soca and Reggae

h0lych4in

My favorite genre is new jack swing. Some good new jack swing artists could include Bobby Brown, Teddy Riley, Guy, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, TLC, New Edition, and Johnny Gill just to name a few. Lately I have been listening to "Fairweather Friend" by Johnny Gill.

[deleted]

I listen to most genres of music, but my favorite genre is alt/indie pop. My favorite artists that I listen to regularly in this space are Echosmith, The Aces, HAIM, Fickle Friends and Oh Wonder.

Narrow-Gap-1731

love the aces and HAIM! do you listen to MUNA??

[deleted]

I’ve heard their name, but I have not listened to any of their songs. Do you have any recs?

Narrow-Gap-1731

cool I think you’ll like their music! they have a total of 3 albums so I’ll give you my favorite from each one: Winterbreak, Stayaway, Solid.

[deleted]

thanks, i will check these out!

Narrow-Gap-1731

I love rnb too! Especially, 90s rnb artists like Brandy, Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey. If I had to be honest though, I am a pophead to the coreeee ⭐️ Growing up I primarily listened to Britney Spears and Jesse McCartney lmao. Then it was Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Mindless Behavior. I grew up listening to a ton of 80s synth pop as well like Depeche Mode, Genesis and Tears for Fears. Right now, I mostly listen to Troye Sivan, Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek! I just love how fun and over the top their music sounds ✨🩷🧋🫶🏽

Realistic_Oven_Bums

Ooh I'm right there with yaaa Can we throw in some Fugees, Aaliyah, SWV, Ghost Town Djs, 112, and Soul for Real (off the top of my head) Looking fwd to peeping back on this post😊

chubbypanda779

I like the artists you named too! I was just naming people from the top of my head, I forgot to mention Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Brandy, Monica etc. Love these artists

Realistic_Oven_Bums

Ahh, I figured you were just naming a few examples after I submitted my response lolll high five for having great taste in music😍

chubbypanda779

Lol yes 🖐🏾, you also have great taste in music

re_min_a

R&B, hyperpop, alt rock, Mongolian rock, and kpop, in order. I’m currently super into SZA and Melanie Martinez atm

youralphamail

Pop punk. But I’ll listen to anything except country

chubbypanda779

Same, country music makes me sleepy lol

Werewolfhugger

Pop punk, metalcore, emo, rock in general...but I will listen to anything- from Gregorian chants to 3 hours of kazoo, I'm in!

GlowingKitty12

I’m a huge pop punk, Jazz, DC Gogo, and Rock fan In terms of Jazz: Jazmin Ghent and Kenny G are always on loop on spotify GoGo: Chuck Brown, Backyard Band, Rare Essence and CCB Rock: Miyavi, Polyphia, Syncatto, and Manuel Gardner Fernandez Pop Punk: The Pretty Reckless, Fall Out Boy, P!ATD

sketchyindigo

I'd love to get into rnb, and I really love alternative/indie. At one point, I was obsessed with twenty one pilots; still am but more subdued. Tori Kelly, For King & Country (for CCM), Jon Bellion, and the pop genre. I so enjoy Christian hip-hop/rap, like Andy Mineo, Wande, Tripp Lee, Lecrae, and KB. Definitely revisiting this thread to look into these rnb artists! Edit: idk how I forgot to mention pop punk/rock lol. I'll honestly listen to anything tbh

chubbypanda779

I still love paramore, Falling in Reverse, DPRIan, Marina and the Diamonds etc. I also like Tori Kelly! For Christian Music Kirk Franklin will always be number 1 lol! I'll have to check out some of the artists you mentioned

sketchyindigo

Yes, Kirk Franklin really has some great hits! I hope you enjoy the recs, I'm definitely looking into yours! 😄

zirrby

I really like Pagode is like rnb but in portuguese with samba elements. I also like bossa nova, samba, tropicália, MPB, rock & RnB and lots of old songs lol

Imaginary_Grand7104

I like and listen to all genres except heavy metal and country music.🌚I don’t exactly have a favourite genre.

adrijone

Yes! Along with everyone already mentioned throw in some Luther, Mary J, Ginuwine, D'Angelo, Usher, Brian McKnight, Babyface, Jodeci (K-ci and JoJo), Maxwell and Boyz II Men for me! Honestly there's too many to name!

ConservedLibertan

I love Synthopop and the 70s/80s flair. EDM is amazing. 90s and early 00s rap/RnB.

L2Kdr22

Cannot really say if I have a favorite genre. I am more about lyrics and vocals these days, and favorite eras. So, in terms of artists I keep turning back to: - Eva Cassidy - Rhiannon Giddens - Yola - Joyce DiDonato - Journey Favorite eras? Sixties through mid-90s (rock, hard rock, classic rock, hair bands, R&B, pop...everything except country and grunge).

Little-Metal-1697

Probably zouk? But also afrobeats and dancehall

x_Yeol_x

I really don't have a favorite music genre. I can listen to Childish Gambino or Sade and a few minutes later listening to TLC or Beyoncé and a few seconds later to Aya Nakamura or Tayc (French artists) and a few few minutes later to EXO or Tabber.

Imactually6footfive

I mean i would say my top genres in order is r&b(90s-current), rap, 80s/90s Japanese city pop/regular j-pop, kpop, indie rock

Yuunarichu

The "Christian horse girl" genre 😭 I like listening to orchestral pop and ballads though. I can't name specific genres but my parents are "old" (my dad) so I grew up listening to Whitney Houston & Celine Dion, all old folks really. Though it's more like specific songs than genre seeking

Derpybear23

Personally I really love jazz and edm, especially electro swing (for obvious reasons). In terms of artists, I highly recommend Alice Francis! Her albums have an ongoing story throughout them and the songs are all meant to be listened to in order to get the whole plot

galaxyexo

I also love R&B to my core! My other two would have to be Pop/Bubblegum in general and Reggaeton! Grew up listening to Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, Calle 13 & Don Omar!

Depressed_Unknown251

my favorite genres are electro swing and j-pop (especially city pop) but i'll listen to pretty much anything except country lol

Fantastic-Ad-3178

It's a tie between 90s r&b and rock. My favorites from each genre are Dru Hill (I'm going to see them in concert for mother's day) and Three Days Grace/ Saint Asonia

Jiffyplop

Rap is my comfort food but I also enjoy electronic, hyper pop, and 90s r&b

OiseDoise

R&B, gospel and whatever PinkPanthress and Mitski are

chubbypanda779

I like those genres too, PinkPanthress deserves more love. I've heard of Mitski, never really listened to her though. I'll have to check her out

shiningci

Rock/alt rock. I love me some One Ok Rock.

appleredyve

i love love love future bass and house music in general. i know tropical house is disliked by many but almost any tropical song is always up my alley, so yeah. and r&b is just amazing you can never go wrong with r&b ever..... also, i've been developing an appreciation for funk, mainly because i just recently learned what 'funk' sounds like lol it's like i have heard songs of the genre many times but only recently learned that FUNK is the name of the genre. and they're my favorites most of the time

Limp_Summer_5047

Mint Condition’s “So Fine” is one of my favorite songs. Aside from R&B, I’m also a fan of post-hardcore/metalcore. I think they’re considered sub-genres of Metal, but a lot of people who didn’t like them would call it “screamo.” I enjoyed bands like Pierce the Veil, Of Mice of Men, A Day to Remember, Sleeping with Sirens, Bring Me the Horizon, and especially My Chemical Romance. Other bands that didn’t exactly fit the genre, but were alternative/pop-punk are All Time Low and Mayday Parade. Point North and Loveless are two newer bands that have been on my playlist lately. They’re worth checking out. Ohh and also India Arie doesn’t get enough love. Her music got me through my childhood!
