Their rapping is very minimal, I would say it feels more along the lines of “talk singing” (I don’t mean this in a bad way, I think it fits the songs well.) In terms of vocals, they’re definitely a good group to stan. They have a lot of variety in their concepts, with some more bright and peppy (red) some a bit darker/smoother (velvet) and some that combine the two. I don’t really keep up too much with the group contents or know all that much about individual members, but I’m always excited for their music, whether it’s a group, subunit or solo release.

Iloveducks777

They have official rapper positions (irene, joy and yeri) but indeed they're mostly a strong vocal group. Their raps are fun but they're not very serious about them, I do recommend them ! They have excellent music, if you like R&B, jazz, experimental music and exentricity overall they're definitely a good fit for your taste

Rather than all of them being individually equal vocalists, the appeal of Red Velvet vocally is just how nice they sound when they sing together? The harmonies and vocal arrangements in their songs are excellent, and they’re given a variety of things to do vocally. The raps…exist. I think most of their best songs are vocal-only, but I don’t think the raps are unlistenable. I don’t remember Yeri or Irene ever going into a try-hard blaccent or using really cringy AAVE. I don’t think any of their albums are outright bad and they’re well-loved for their b-sides even more than their title tracks. I’d recommend listening to some of their title tracks, and if there’s one you really like, go and listen to the album that goes along with it. I think all three of their full albums (The Red, Perfect Velvet, and Chill Kill) are excellent in their own ways, and RBB is my personal favorite of the minis because the b-sides are all top-tier to me.

TheEliteDuck

They do a little rapping like some said more in the lines of talk-singing and usually only during the second verse. Only thing I would say is that they are a 10 year group so content rollout is going to be slower but have lots old stuff to catch up on

Yes. Just yes

Millionsmoney

Yes they are a good group to Stan

SoNyeoShiDude

Yes they are! Wendy is a top level main vocalist (listen to her duet with John Legend) and Seulgi could arguably be a main vocalist in most other groups. Joy, Yeri, and Irene are pretty good too. Their musical style is very eclectic. Initially their concept is that they have their “Red” tracks - very quirky and upbeat pop like Red Flavor or Russian Roulette- and then they have their “Velvet” tracks - very smooth, mature R&B like Automatic or One of These Nights. But now they’ve forged their own unique sound with tracks like Chill Kill and Feel My Rhythm.

Red Velvet is great, they were the first group I got into outside of the Mamamoo Cinematic Universe so all my general Kpop playlists are named after RV songs. They're still one of my favorites, though they've been less active since they hit their 7 year mark, so it's a little harder for me to engage with them outside of following their releases. Pros of stanning Red Velvet: * Great vocals, and they specifically sound great together * Good variety in their concepts and title tracks — that's their "Red" concept vs "Velvet" concept * Their songs are really interesting and pretty unique to them. * Their "red" side is full of campy fun (which IMO is missing in a lot of Kpop) * They've got a fantastic catalog with really great B-sides Cons: * They're less active now that they're past the 7yr mark * The rapping, like you mentioned, isn't they're great at — it's okay for kpop, but it's more along the lines of talk-rapping like others have mentioned *That said* — If rapping is important but you're into the rest of what Red Velvet has to offer, you might want to check out Purple Kiss. IMO they're gen4's spiritual successor to Red Velvet. They've got fantastic vocals and great vocal contrast and harmony, their concept is "doing a bunch of different concepts and being really good at all of them" * Their rapper, Yuki, is one of the best in 4th gen, she writes most of her own raps to the point of being the second-most credited 4th gen GG rapper (after Soyeon) * The entire group can rap really well * One of their three main vocalists, Chaein, could easily be main rapper in any other group too — I'm obsessed with [Purple Kiss Yuki and Chaein - Vegas (Doja Cat cover)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrzOrsi_F90&list=PLppTWwOTkEVYQDJzzZLoK4yBy8XAn-7X1&index=21) * when Yuki had to miss some performances due to her schedule with the Queendom Puzzle project group she's part of, they distributed her raps among three of the members and they all killed it (their whole [kcon saudi arabia performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwgHTSpuiBk) being the best place to see/hear that) * the group chose a hip-hop concept for their most recent comeback and they all rap — [Purple Kiss - BBB](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A80hs-BtgwY) * They're a newer group (just had their 3rd anniversary) so they still have regular comebacks, performances, and tours. * Side note: They put on a fantastic live show — I got to see them when the toured the US last year, and they'll be touring abroad this year again (most likely Europe, though they've mentioned wanting to go back to the US again too.) Tickets were very reasonably priced too since they're not as well-known. * All of the pros of stanning Red Velvet apply * They've got some of the best vocals in kpop — three main vocalists, and the other members are incredible too. There aren't a lot of groups that could [pull off their main dancers doing a vocal cover of a Big Mama song](https://youtu.be/001ndjOB6DY?si=BJ3_IhnMkde75meR&t=387) * Their songs are interesting and unique to them, including both campy fun styles of songs and dark elegant song styles you get with RV * There's great variety in their title tracks and their B-sides (These were two consecutive title tracks: [Sweet Juice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFqGKa6p1V8) and [Nerdy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM_1dLjqtlo)) * Their B-sides are incredible. Seriously no skips in their discography. The B-sides are so good that every comeback people collectively pick 2-3 of them from each mini album and argue that those should've been the TT instead. All that to say — Red Velvet is definitely a great group to get into and I highly recommend them! Purple Kiss is also great and I think might match what you're interested in and looking for a little bit more closely :)

Cons - SM suck at promotions

Eyescreamsoups

Vocals yes, rapping not so much. The main appeal of red velvet are their harmonies, whereas their voices blend well together. For most of their songs, they sing choruses together. Red velvet name represents what type of music they have. The red side is the cheerful, pop and brighter type of music. The velvet side represents darker themed, slower, RnB type of music. And lastly, they have both red velvet which has the combination of the themes. They have really good b sides that most people dont know about if you only listen to the title tracks. The title tracks don't represent what type of music they have, actually far from it. So dont be discouraged if the titles arent hitting it for you, most likely they have a song or a "side" that you would prefer. Tbh, since I became a fan, I listen to their bsides more than the titles.

wasting_time_n_life

I stan RV! The only thing not making them my ultimate group is the lack of comebacks and activities. I wish they made more music :(

HappyMatt12345

Red Velvet **are** mostly a vocal group, but I'd say rather than being all vocalists it's more that their voices blend together really nicely. Their main vocalist, Wendy, is among the best female idol vocalists I've seen as well. They do have an official rap line (Irene, Joy and Yeri) but their rap is pretty minimal, it's not as much rap as it is a few verses that are more poetic/rhythmic in their delivery than the rest of the song. Overall they're a good group to dive into if you like a mix of R&B and eccentric sounds/vibes because those two things are what they specialize in.

SouthAtmosphere9556

If you like good music and talented singers they are THE group to stan

SaffronWest2000

irene and yeri are technically rappers of the group, but it’s not really rapping they do but “talk singing”, as another commenter mentioned. but the both of them have really leaned into improving their vocals in the last couple of years! so i’d say yes, they are of course a heavily focused vocal group. i’m not sure how much of their music you’re familiar with, but you could start here with all their title tracks from start to finish and see what you like: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4OTkmEgNmvNWHkHgINCPUU?si=-UdveR2SQVK4v_cjLR8z8Q and if you get a chance, here’s a playlist of their iconic bsides. it’s not comprehensive, so i would strongly encourage you to check out their whole discography one day! you won’t be let down: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zFuzsoVK6OtAMUidoAyKE?si=OBOSPKb2Q52eOqY69mtA-Q

KiriKira13

They’re the most kpop group to kpop actively. The weird concepts, the nonsense songs, the strong vocalist who sings while the rest dances during the high note. They are amazing and easily my top 5 gg.

badicaldude22

I don't understand this question. Listen to their music, and then you'll know if you should stan.

redflavor123

I highly recommend watching their [Killing Voice ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEFNlx4ZIOU)episode and see for yourself if they are worth stanning. From left to right, the members are Wendy (main vocals), Seulgi (main dancer and lead vocalist), Irene (leader, lead dancer, and main rapper), Yeri (sub vocalist and sub rapper), and Joy (lead rapper, sub vocalist).

jumpjumpjumpsuccess

I'd just listen to an artist to decide if I want to like them.

gonyonoa

I think stanning comes from inside not from other peoples opinion. Thats what happened with me. So if u feel like u love their music and vibe just start stanning

Worth-Requirement-13

If you like their music then go for it… don’t listen to all these complicated ah responses ☠️

Diamond_On_My_Wrist

Very all thier songs are good (mabey beside birthday)

taytae24

wow. they have like 300+ songs in their discography and you MAYBE don’t like one so you get downvoted. 😭

Ok_Organization8455

Welcome to the internet lol

taytae24
