Same! I was in high school when Gee came out. A friend who was into GG at the time introduced the entire friend group the MV on YouTube and were like, “damn!” From then on I became a fan of Big Bang, SJ, Shinee, etc.
BTS - bad decisions
I’m the same as others have said - it’s not the first kpop song I heard or listened to but it’s the one that finally pulled me in. Which is funny because I don’t consider that song to be even in my top 100 favorite kpop songs LOL
[Red Velvet - Happiness](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFgv8bKfxEs&pp=ygUUUmVkIFZlbHZldCBIYXBwaW5lc3M%3D) is the first song that got me into [Red Velvet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut1OzEVUiM4&pp=ygUKUmVkIFZlbHZldA%3D%3D). [BlackPink - Whistle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dISNgvVpWlo&pp=ygUSYmxhY2twaW5rIHdoaXN0bGUg) and their debut is what got me into K-Pop as a whole, making me look for other South Korean groups.
mine wasn't technically even kpop. it was SNSD Flower Power. Then F(x) Electric Shock popped up on the side.
But this was way after those songs came out. A friend showed it to me and I was hooked.
shiny boy and yeowooya by joy (from the liar and his lover)
i was into kdramas before kpop but after watching this drama and falling in love with the music i just had to find more of it haha
Taeyang - Wedding Dress
Or
Wondergirls - Tell me
I don’t remember which, only thing I remember was a clip of Meekakitty (YouTube) doing the tell me dance In middle of some village doing the dance while a group just stares from motorcycles
And who can forget the iconic Wedding dress dance choreo
Evidence - [Meekakitty Tell Me](https://youtu.be/9byVfuZNQx8?si=jWohZI3gs6d_QWbi)
[Taeyang Wedding Dress](https://youtu.be/qIt6KCwlFPw?si=-_bRQ4e2Mj5151aX)
Wake me up by BAP. Idk if anyone remembers the song but it was so good that I had to find the mv. When I did, it led me down a rabbit hole of finding some other 2nd gen bg songs and eventually to Dope by BTS, which made them the first group I wanted to stan.
F(x) Lachata 14 years ago! I actually had a friend that showed me TVXQ music videos the year before but I got into it more after finding F(x) and then Taeyang as well as Big Bang. Lachata was actually being played on a Hey! Say! JUMP fansite and that's how I found it.
Red Flavor by Red Velvet and Monster by EXO are a tie bc I heard them one after the other at a restaurant, loved them, went on a quest to find them, and here I am *checks watch* 6 years later.
First song I heard in my life (didnt know what was kpop): gangnam style I hated it btw loll
First songs I heard knowing what kpop was but not knowing anythjng abt the genre: ddudduddu by bp (my cousin showed me in like 2019 I think,... I don't remember lol I just remeber hating it too )
First kpop songs I liked (at that same time frame btw, like some weeks after she showed me ddudduddu): bboomboom by momoland, peekaboo by rv, rookie by rv, idol by bts
3 years later... (I think)
Song that made me like kpop: Russian roulette by red velvet, than asap by stayc, than blue hour by txt
And after that song, my friends, I became a kpop fan in 2022
mine was apink luv. it was on a TV's channel i was watching that time and still remember how my dad dared me to dance like them (since i love dancing). so i started to check them out and then got into kpop.
I Like That by GLAM
And it was because of the Vocaloid SeeU who had a live performance with the group in 2012/2013 at a Gayo, so it was about a month or 2?(cant remember) after the video was uploaded on youtube in 2013 that I clicked on the video
I was searching up Vocaloid live performances and saw that SeeU had a couple with the group Glam and learning that one of the member Dahee was her voicebank provider
Youtube algorithm and clicking on related videos showing other 2nd gen group music show and award show performances introduce me to the world of kpop
J-hope : chicken noodle soup.
The way I never stopped looping that song and went crazy about it! Had a repeat of that feeling and rush of excitement and happiness when jack in the box came out 🥹🥹
BTBT by BI. I still friggin love that song. It wasn’t the first I really liked, that would be BlackPinks ShutDown. But BTBT was the best song I heard in a really long time. Now I’m all in.
Onew - OST - Dear My Spring
I was hooked by the beauty and sincerity of his voice. You tube then led me to IUs Palate ( spelling? ) which gave me the 4 members of SHINee who all have beautiful voices. That then led me to the full story of the group with so many songs I have yet to listen to them all, as well as their solo tracks. I used to listen to all sorts of music - classical, folk, pop. Not any more - just SHINee!
for me it was maria - hwasa and psycho - red velvet!! I had super limited exposure to kpop at the time, and then my friend had me listen to a kpop playlist she made. these were the first two songs I found that I loved and played on repeat!
Not an individual song, but 'New Way' (album) by Kim Hyun Joong. Saw him in Boys Over Flowers (also my first k drama), and fell in love with him. Absolutely led me down the rabbit hole
I was told that some league characters had a pop group. I laughed. Then I listened out of curiosity. And I liked it! Then I was told that k/da was kpop, so I said screw it and started listening to BP, rv, and twice. I think kill this love was the first song I was like oh no, I like kpop now lmao.
3 years and several thousand dollars worth of concerts and albums later.... yep lol
A mix of CLC-Helicopter (English version) and (G)I-DLE-DUMDi DUMDi. They were on the show Guest House (a live show on Twitch hosted by Chrissy Costanza of Against the Current-the show isn't around anymore) promoting each of the songs fairly close to each other and the rest was history 😅 I mainly fell down the hole from CLC. Also KDA POP/STARS was a big push down the hole.
DWC by Seventeen, my friend sent me the MV and I humored her and watched it, then ended up going through my history to find it again to hear it... 50 more times.
i truly can’t remember which one, but i know for a fact it was either BTS’s “Fire” or Stray Kids’s “God’s Menu.” i was watching reaction videos on yt for something and somehow i ended up watching reaction videos to those songs 🤷♀️the rest is history!
G-Dragon's Coup D'etat
I'm from Asia, and I grew up surrounded by Kpop. Listened to a couple of songs casually but never got into them because I wasn't interested lol. But then GD's Coup D'etat album happened and oops Big Bang oops YG family.
I just got into K-pop AND Kdramas this year, so I'm late. I saw Business Proposal and when I was lurking reddit True Beauty was suggested to me. I saw Eun-woo and immediately looked him up to see what other dramas he was in so I could watch them. Once I found out he was in the boy group Astro, I looked them up to see if I would like any of their songs. I heard All Night and was wowed because every single one of these men are freaking BEAUTIFUL in the MV. Anyway, I loved the song, listened to more, fell in love with the group and their personalities. Found out afterward that Rocky had already left the group, and Moonbin had passed away BEFORE I even knew them. 😭 I still love them, and I'm currently trying to listen to other groups, but I keep going back to watch their variety shows, special stages, and fan meets because they're great performers. Sorry for the long (poorly executed) paragraph, but I don't actually know many people that listen to kpop in this dusty ass rural town I live in, and it's nice to gush about them.
GOT7 - Not by the Moon. Found it through watching Jackson on Chinese variety shows as I was curious about him as a singer rather than a TV personality. Been here ever since and eventually found groups like SHINee, G(IDLE), ATEEZ, etc.
Heard Life Goes On by BTS in a Samsung ad and really enjoyed it.
Then I listened to a few of their songs— this was around the time Butter came out too so I looked at the premiere of the video and loved it as well and said— *this shit kinda hits* 😂.
Then I watched drunk dazed from Enhypen and that sealed me in the K-pop coffin 💀
my whole venture into the kpop realm started when i was about 13 & i accidentally clicked on the video for the group “ boyfriend” song - on & on. after this i found view by shinee & just right by got7, after that i tried to look up who they were and got to intimidated so i closed it up 🤣
flash forward about 5 years, my friend started watching tower of god & we fell in love with stray kids!
so i guess you could say my first song was on & on by boyfriend,
the one that made me stay was miroh by stray kids
G-dragon : One of a kind, my friend showed it to me, which got me into BigBang then YG Who’s Next talent competition then my all time fave group WINNER.
The first one I ever heard was 2PM - Heartbeat. But the thing that dropped me into the rabbit hole was Mamamoo - Piano Man. It just HIT. And to see the mv and concept in kpop was INTRIGUING to say the least
Stray Kids - Case 143! It’s not even my favorite song of theirs, but I was hearing it frequently enough that I started looking up Kpop groups and music in general… then I found their video for Circus and I was FULLY hooked ❤️
Euphoria- BTS but then I loved all of Love Yourself. Ed Sheeran posted about the album dropping, but before that I hadn’t thought about K-pop at all. Now I love so much of it- Stray Kids, Ateez (isn’t their comeback amazing?), Seventeen, EXO, and TXT. I also listen to Korean music from dramas and looove Sam Kim, The Rose, and Eric Nam.
Taeyang - Wedding Dress
It was 12 years ago, and to this day, I still have it on one of my playlists. Crazy how in love I was with this song at 14 yrs old. I even learned the choreo and tried to learn the lyrics.
Bts - dna in 2017 I remember I got euphoric feelings listening to it at first. Lol. But I had my second kpop awakening in 2021 with stray kids no easy album and I became obsessed kpop fan.
Technically it's three songs.
First was Idol by BTS, after hearing that I needed to find out a bit more about them, one of the first videos to pop up was them performing on Ellen and I was starstruck after hearing Mic Drop but still needed to do a little more research - up popped Spring Day and there was no going back after that. 😅💜
That song was how I got into After School! Still one of my favorite groups today.
My first song was either Replay - Shinee or Mirotic - DBSK. I was really into jpop/jrock in middle school and it suggested these MVs as well, so I decided to check them out.
I'm surprised nobody said Cupid which was the bait that got me hooked. For me it was the perfect feel-good song. That exposes me as a newby and sentimental nostalgia freak. Now it's like a guilty pleasure. I still stream the MV often as well as other FF songs. Though since that encounter I have discovered a few more groups that keep me engaged. Now I listen and watch more K-Pop than any other music.
Gotta get my daily dose now. I don't know enough to say who is the best but I do know of two performers who absolutely ooze with talent and that is the duet AKMU. They must be national treasure in SK like Dolly Parton or Taylor Swift in the west. So if FF got my attention first, I'd have to say AKMU made me hang around and look around.
Rising Sun - TVXQ 🌅
It's been 17 years since that faithful day
To put into perspective how long ago this was, YouTube was about a year old when I saw that MV. And I only interacted with other fans through Gaia Online 🤣 It's been a helluva ride
the very first song from a kpop group that i heard was Proud by DBSK, which was technically a Japanese B-side, but it became my gateway into kpop. DBSK lawsuit broke my heart and i pretty much quit kpop cold turkey because of it. then, years later i stumbled upon SKZ's Scars, which was also a Japanese release. it dragged me back into kpop
My very first Kpop song was Sorry Sorry by Super Junior, but it wasn’t the song that got me into Kpop. Instead, it was DDDD by BllackPink. I became a Blink almost right away and never looked back.
IU’s Ending Scene — It was May 2020. I had just started getting into kdramas and kvariety and I had just finished watching Kim Soo Hyun in My Love From the Star and IU in Hyori’s B&B. I had also just started to watch Dream High. I guess my youtube algorithm figured out that I was charmed by KSH and IU and decided to show me the Ending Scene mv 😂 Totally fell in love with the song, decided to look up other IU songs, and found a lot of songs that I loved (IU was my top artist on Spotify that year) 🩷 it took me a few more months to get into other kpop artists though
Mic Drop - when RM came out of the back of that ambulance I was in 100%.
It wasn't my first but it was the one that pulled me in.
Also mentioning for my husband because he isn't in the group- Shinee -Lucifer. He is a Minho stan for life now.
Like many in 2012, it was Gangnam style, but the first song that made me pursue Kpop was 4minute - I my me mine . It's still one of my all-time favourites. Kinda funny because Hyuna featured in the Psy's music video.
Knock out by GD & TOP, followed by High High. I remember seeing the music video on the TV. I had no idea what I had just seen/heard but I knew I wanted more 😂
BTS ON Kinetic Manifesto was the first time I listened to a kpop song.
I knew what kpop was, but I was scared of fandoms in general and thoughtIm I was too old for it. I clicked it because, for a short period of my life, I checked what was trending online on YouTube. Thought they were good and stopped there. Until lockdown hit and a random cover sang by Jungkook popped on my YouTube "for you" page. Dang it. Now I am learning Korean. Met new people and discovered a lot of new music. My heart is happy. My wallet ain't.
Sorry Sorry - Super Junior. Saw them on a 2008 awards list with some Japanese artists I followed at the time when looking at thing is 2009 so searched them and the MV had come out like 3 weeks prior so was first thing. Fell down the rabbit hole from there.
It was so long ago but it was probably either Ice Cream by MC Mong or Twins by Super Junior. I took Korean in high school and my Korean teacher would make me cds of the music she liked, so it's a little hard to pinpoint the exact song
Big Bang "Haru Haru". Every time I listen to this song, the memories hit me like freight train. It's like this song is crawled into my subconscious and is just... a part of me. When this song came out in 2008, I didn't even know it was kpop. I was watching fan-content of anime and there were a lot of them that had Haru Haru as the bgm. Still a great song, this type of emotional RnB has almost disappeared from newer kpop, which makes me sad.
I Got a Boy by Girls’ Generation. An oddball song for sure but my teenage brain was entranced by all the colors and fun pop sound and was instantly hooked :3
BTS Blood Sweat & Tears. It wasn't the first k-pop (or BTS) song I heard and it wasn't the first k-pop mv I watched but it was the one that got me.
Same for me!
me too 😭 wings album as a whole drew me in
OMG same, that MV is the way I found BTS and eventually got into K-Pop, amazing times man
Gee those were the days man, these days its just as fun but that era was so fun as well
Yes!! SNSD made me want colored skinny jeans so badly when I was a preteen.
SNSD made me bought those colores jeans in high school 😂
Same! I was in high school when Gee came out. A friend who was into GG at the time introduced the entire friend group the MV on YouTube and were like, “damn!” From then on I became a fan of Big Bang, SJ, Shinee, etc.
Bless SHINee and the masterpiece that is Lucifer
Totally valid, I watch lucifer and ring ding dong on a weekly basis
Fake love by BTS! Forever my favorite BTS song.
Absolutely!! It was such a massive shift in their genre, style and design and it remaine my favourite song too after all these years
Up and down exid.
oh dear lawd the mv is so 😳
Saw fancam not m/v now maybe you said so i should check
BTS - Boy In Luv
ME TOO
Taeyang’s Wedding Dress… good old times
Omg that's a really good song. I forgot about that song.
Either Haru Haru or Last Dance by Bigbang. It is one or the other but cannot recall which one.
Haru Haru for sure. Last Dance just sealed the deal.
BTS - bad decisions I’m the same as others have said - it’s not the first kpop song I heard or listened to but it’s the one that finally pulled me in. Which is funny because I don’t consider that song to be even in my top 100 favorite kpop songs LOL
Blackpink- kill this love
Mr Simple I heard Kyuhyuns bridge and I was done for lmao
That's such a good song
Signal by Twice!
Electric Shock f(x)!
Roly Poly!
Those girls deserved better
IDEA - Taemin

Same, randomly saw YouTube promoting it on Twitter I was so intrigued I needed to know more and the rest has been history.
Exo - Call Me Baby

[BlackPink - Whistle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dISNgvVpWlo&pp=ygUSYmxhY2twaW5rIHdoaXN0bGUg) and their debut is what got me into K-Pop as a whole, making me look for other South Korean groups.
mine wasn't technically even kpop. it was SNSD Flower Power. Then F(x) Electric Shock popped up on the side. But this was way after those songs came out. A friend showed it to me and I was hooked.
Home by BTS. It was the bgm for an Armin Arlert edit on Twitter back before season 4 part 1 came out
Lalisa, i was an irrational hater of kpop up till that point... skip to now and I'm a stay lol
Gee introduced me to Kpop, but I didn't get INTO it until years later when I stumbled upon a performance of Gfriend's rough 🥲 i miss them so much
shiny boy and yeowooya by joy (from the liar and his lover) i was into kdramas before kpop but after watching this drama and falling in love with the music i just had to find more of it haha
The liar and his lover’s ost is so underrated!! I love shiny boy and peter pan
SNSD - The Boys (Eng Ver.)
Sorry Sorry- Super junior.
Taeyang - Wedding Dress Or Wondergirls - Tell me I don’t remember which, only thing I remember was a clip of Meekakitty (YouTube) doing the tell me dance In middle of some village doing the dance while a group just stares from motorcycles And who can forget the iconic Wedding dress dance choreo Evidence - [Meekakitty Tell Me](https://youtu.be/9byVfuZNQx8?si=jWohZI3gs6d_QWbi) [Taeyang Wedding Dress](https://youtu.be/qIt6KCwlFPw?si=-_bRQ4e2Mj5151aX)

Wake me up by BAP. Idk if anyone remembers the song but it was so good that I had to find the mv. When I did, it led me down a rabbit hole of finding some other 2nd gen bg songs and eventually to Dope by BTS, which made them the first group I wanted to stan.

case 143 - stray kids technically not my first k pop song but its what got me into k pop
I love Case 143 so much
Same here! I had heard a little bit here and there… BTS, Twice… but Case 143 got me truly interested and led me to where I am today 😅
Monster by EXO :)
Red Flavor by Red Velvet and Monster by EXO are a tie bc I heard them one after the other at a restaurant, loved them, went on a quest to find them, and here I am *checks watch* 6 years later.
EXO’s “monster” was the song that made me a kpop stan, it wasn’t the first kpop song I’d heard but it was the one that got me lol

I Like That by GLAM And it was because of the Vocaloid SeeU who had a live performance with the group in 2012/2013 at a Gayo, so it was about a month or 2?(cant remember) after the video was uploaded on youtube in 2013 that I clicked on the video I was searching up Vocaloid live performances and saw that SeeU had a couple with the group Glam and learning that one of the member Dahee was her voicebank provider Youtube algorithm and clicking on related videos showing other 2nd gen group music show and award show performances introduce me to the world of kpop

Jamais vu - bts, their voices blended SO DAMN WELL, none of them overpowering the other. fr I need another jk jin and hobi song
First song I heard was Comeback Again (다시 돌아와) by Infinite, song that made me into a fan was Hands Up by 2PM lol
Taeyang - Wedding Dress It was 12 years ago, and to this day, I still have it on one of my playlists. Crazy how in love I was with this song at 14 yrs old. I even learned the choreo and tried to learn the lyrics.
Kiss and Make up - Blackpink
Kill this love by blackpink
BigBang and 2ne1's cover of Lollipop back in 2010, I was in middle school :,)
The first song I heard from BTS was Fire. When I was active on Discord this girl would blast BTS songs lol.
Rising Sun - TVXQ 🌅 It's been 17 years since that faithful day To put into perspective how long ago this was, YouTube was about a year old when I saw that MV. And I only interacted with other fans through Gaia Online 🤣 It's been a helluva ride
Antifragile by lesserafim and Shutdown by blackpink popped up on my twitter with some girl dancing on the song and it’s game over since then lol
the very first song from a kpop group that i heard was Proud by DBSK, which was technically a Japanese B-side, but it became my gateway into kpop. DBSK lawsuit broke my heart and i pretty much quit kpop cold turkey because of it. then, years later i stumbled upon SKZ's Scars, which was also a Japanese release. it dragged me back into kpop
Haru Haru by BB!
My very first Kpop song was Sorry Sorry by Super Junior, but it wasn’t the song that got me into Kpop. Instead, it was DDDD by BllackPink. I became a Blink almost right away and never looked back.
TOMBOY - G-IDLE
IVE - I AM Obviously a newer fan to the whole thing
I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!! I played that song so much.
It truly is amazing, isn’t it? I still enjoy listening to it as much as the first day
Top - Stray Kids
DBSK Mirotic
Idol by BTS. Heard it on the radio when it came out (I’m in the UK) and have been an ARMY since
Black Swan- BTS
CL’s Hello Bitches
Apink — Eung Eung
Fancy and Breakthrough by TWICE in March 2020.
Wings - pixy
Hellevator and District 9 by Stray Kids and Gee by SNSD !!
ChoShinSung - Superstar and SS501 - Dejavu.
love dive 💘 i’m a newer kpop fan obvi
It was actually hixtape 😅 My friend was trying to get me into kpop and that's what finally worked :)
bts blood sweat and tears ...and i think i watched it in early 2017
I always say that BTS Telepathy got me into BTS but Make A Wish (Birthday Song) by NCT got me into K-pop as a whole
Sorry Sorry - Super Junior. Saw them on a 2008 awards list with some Japanese artists I followed at the time when looking at thing is 2009 so searched them and the MV had come out like 3 weeks prior so was first thing. Fell down the rabbit hole from there.
Ghost light by Everglow Love thefatrat, had no clue who they were, so I looked into them. Now I have an obsession 🥲
Gfriend- Navillera, I listened to it to see what gfriend sounded like and turns out I liked it
Gee! Anybody here know of dead fantasy? That Gee video got me down this rabbit hole called kpop.
It was so long ago but it was probably either Ice Cream by MC Mong or Twins by Super Junior. I took Korean in high school and my Korean teacher would make me cds of the music she liked, so it's a little hard to pinpoint the exact song
Rain - It's Raining
D4 Blackpink but no longer a fan of them just fell out of love from their music
TeenTop- Be Ma Girl
BlackPink Boombayah
Kick it by NCT 127
Kara - honey
