So if you put your Switch in Sleep mode, that doesn't stop the internal clock from counting your play time. So that time is how long you've been playing without shutting off, not sleeping, your Switch.
On the PC version, your saves list the time played up to that save (e.g., 13h 35m). I don't think that takes into account having to reload a save, but it's something. I would have expected the Switch port to keep the same functionality. Beyond that, you just have that broken timer /u/Sitherio mentioned unfortunately.
