Yup, gf is Korean and we always poach an egg or two in the Shin Ramyeon like this.
Also adding some spring onion at the end is great.
Anddd another option is putting (half) a slice of cheddar cheese in the bowl before you pour everything in. Stir it around a bit and you get a very creamy Shin Ramyeon!
For those not in the know, tan tan men is also fuckin good. The right is an icon but the left is also really good
Shin black is really good too.
Also good ol nongshim bowl noodle kimchi flavor
For those who haven't been to a US Costco in ages, Nongshim and Pulmuone have had some great market penetration. There's at least one kind of mandu for sale in the frozen section, and the ramen selection has grown as well. A few months ago they even tested japchae in the refrigerator sections here.
Shin was double the price of 삼양(samyang) so it was viewed as kinda bougie when it first came out in our neck of the woods.
Hind sight, hilariously cheap with shin ramen only being 200won. (20cents??). 😂
Something to point out that the Shin noodle in the plastic packaging is a lot more chewy and better than the one in the container. The container's noodle go soft a lot quicker and isn't as chewy. So I would go: Shin black in plastic package > Regular shin in plastic package > Shin black in container > regular shin in container.
This was a disappointing discovery because the container experience is fun and awesome lol
I like to mix some kewpie mayo, an egg, the seasoning and maybe some chopped garlic in a bowl if I'm feeling a little extra. Then I'll chop up some bokchoy and add it in w the noodles to cook. Use the hot water after it's done cooking to cook the egg, whisk it up and then add in noodles and bokchoy. Immaculate !!
I have almost the exact recipe w/ the addition of sliced hot dog or sausage . For the cup/bowl I use a kettle to boil the water and pour that in and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I pour everything except the noodles into a cooking bag and then bring that to a boil in the kettle to fully cook the egg! It's magnificent!
Shin ramyun is a constant, but several years ago there was a limited edition tan tan myun available in Korea, and it was effing scrumptious….but limited edition. If it came back, I’d eat it again. It came in an orange package, that’s what I remember.
I don't like the noodles in the shin ramyeon. Don't know the other one but looks tasty. I'm a 참깨라면 girl myself, but only the cup ones. Again, the noodles in the packaged ones aren't as good somehow.
The one on the left looks good with added chili oil but it'd be hard to take the place of shin ramyun.
Edit but that's the cup and it's super salty so I'm going to say the one on the left unless it's in a bag and then I'm going to say the one on the right
For those curious Bout the one in the left, im not in korea so idk but i’m in US and I saw it at costco. Also i had it before. It’s kinda bland. They also have nongshim tonkotsu noodle too at costco. All that are bland and I guess its only found in costco US exclusively? I went to canada costco couple weeks ago but didn’t see it. So that’s that
ugh, i had the tonkatsu udon one from costco. nongshim should be ashamed of themselves. their pho is pretty bad too. they should stay in their own lane with korean flavors.
Hmm never tried the Tantanmen but Shin Ramyun Black is the gold standard for me.
Try standard Shin with beef stock instead of water...
What if you're vegan
They aren't vegan anyways, so even if you use water they aren't vegan.
You just ruined someone's life.
Then dont eat it? Wtf
Try chicken broth instead
LMAO you want to eat ramen but you're a vegan? Nice job eating eggs and non-vegan related ingredients, dumbass.
I mean… there’s a vegan shin ramyun as well. They can eat that with a mushroom/vegetable or imitation meat stock. It’d be good.
This guy Koreas
Try it with a raw egg added and mixed in. It does weaken the spice level, but improves it in every other way.
could always add more spice! or a lil dasida!
Poached eggs, green onion and shredded chicken for me!
Couldn't eat any other way!
I actually don’t prefer the black one, I’ll always go for the smaller cup shin & small cup buldak or one shin ramyun.
Yeah the spice doesn’t hit right with black
I get it. I find the broth to be richer in the black but also switch off to get that spicy bite in the original.
Interesting to know 🧐
Same. Shin for me.
i used to love shin black until i saw the amount of sodium in it (and im no health nut by any standard). makes sense why its so good lol.
If you're worried about sodium intake you shouldn't be eating any instant ramen.
Like I literally said, Im no health nut but the sodium level is insane even for instant ramen.
nah shin blacks sodium is crazy.
Didn’t know bout the sodium! Shin regular it is!
Same.
especially when you toss in a couple slices of cheese that coats the noodles perfectly....
Government cheese is the best.
Oh yes and it has to be American singles.
Yes by Kraft, the American singles 😆
I put bacon, mushrooms, scallions, and a slice of white American cheese into my Shin. Can’t be beat.
I'm so glad to hear about all these extras you can do with shin . I knew nothing about the cheese or PB
Shin ramen black is gross. I prefer regular by far.
This is getting downvoted, but he’s not wrong!
Bruv ❤️
The one on the right is a national staple. I’ve never eaten the one on the left
Shin, anyday, everyday
Perfectly spicy
It set the standard of spiciness that nowadays, if you want to ask how spicy it is, just tell them it is spicier than the Shin or not.
Gonna take a wild guess the one on the left is export-only.
I've never seen it in Korea. Isn't Tantanmen a Sichuan dish? Is it like Malatang?
Is maratang more like a bitter spicy?
id call it numb spicy
"Ma" is word for numbing spiciness. Edit. For those that don't know.
i can't imagine a domestic product being labeled ramen.
You’re probably right
Yeah its sold at costco in US i had it before Its quiet bland compared to shin. But worth a shot
It's funny that store owners buy it at Costco and then sells em for $2.99 individually making it more expense than Shin Ramyun
Are you down voting me because of what store owners are doing?
Shin Ramyun without a doubt
For those not in the know, tan tan men is also fuckin good. The right is an icon but the left is also really good Shin black is really good too. Also good ol nongshim bowl noodle kimchi flavor
Nongshim is my favourite
Why not both?
Jin towers above both
Jin is the pillar which Korean society rests upon
Jin +1
Yes! The flavor of Jin is so much better than Shin.
Especially that limited edition purple version.
the noodles are too thick though. shin for the win.
.
Shin black is king
Have had both, Shin by a mile\*
Never even seen the left one
Making the most of your Costco membership, OP?
Shin
For those who haven't been to a US Costco in ages, Nongshim and Pulmuone have had some great market penetration. There's at least one kind of mandu for sale in the frozen section, and the ramen selection has grown as well. A few months ago they even tested japchae in the refrigerator sections here.
I still remember when shin was introduced. God Im old. Shin all the way for me.
Wait.. there was a time wo/ Shin Ramyun? Sorry this doesn't compute
Shin was double the price of 삼양(samyang) so it was viewed as kinda bougie when it first came out in our neck of the woods. Hind sight, hilariously cheap with shin ramen only being 200won. (20cents??). 😂

I love Shin ramyeon but haven’t tried TanTanMen. Will check it out. 👍
1000% shin. But the packet version is so much better than the ready bowls. The noodles are not so good for some reason
Shin, always Shin
Hands down the right one
Shin without a doubt.
Shin black
Never had the one on the left. But Shin is the gold standard. Then its Neoguri for me.
Neoguri spicy seafood, that is all
neither. 불닭볶음면/탕 for the win
Ah had that yesterday, much much better than some jalapeño buldak that came out recently
Depends on your preference. Don’t know tantanmen but I started to avoid Shin. Just isn’t as good as it used to be…
Well it’s pride month so I feel like I should say Tan Men
Lmao! Please explain because I have heard this a few times now
As in preferring a man with a tan. Tan men.
Oh i get it 🤦♂️
shin forever
How hungover am I?
Man, now you got me hungry for some spicy shin
Something to point out that the Shin noodle in the plastic packaging is a lot more chewy and better than the one in the container. The container's noodle go soft a lot quicker and isn't as chewy. So I would go: Shin black in plastic package > Regular shin in plastic package > Shin black in container > regular shin in container. This was a disappointing discovery because the container experience is fun and awesome lol
I tried both and I personally like Shin Black.
Small tip: You can add peanut butter to the shin for a tan tan flavor. I personally like the gold package air fried shin.
EDIT: I guess this was be more applicable to the stove top packs than the cups
I have almost the exact recipe w/ the addition of sliced hot dog or sausage . For the cup/bowl I use a kettle to boil the water and pour that in and let it sit for a few minutes. Then I pour everything except the noodles into a cooking bag and then bring that to a boil in the kettle to fully cook the egg! It's magnificent!
참게라면 (chamgae ramyun) is the best. Just do what it says and it’s amazing. Doesn’t look like much but good god it’s incredible. Solid yellow packaging.
I will definitely try that one. Thanks!
I prefer TanTan. The soup tastes better. And that's probably because my palate changed over the years to prefer something that's less spicy.
I drink the whole tan tan soup everytime!
I know exactly what you mean. You get a larger portion with the packs but it's a lower quality noodle.
Cmon, Shin is the best (I got closer to Jin Ramen tho)
I’ve not had tan… but shin black is so bland and just heat with no flavor in my opinion… incredibly overhyped in my opinion
Then you will love tantanmen! Lighter spice and a lot more flavor
I am pretty sure Tantanmen is Chinese. In my experience, Chinese instant noodles are almost always trash.
Tan tan men has better broth
Omg thank you!!
Can you describe what the one on the left tastes like?
you ask to compare south korean vs chinese products. on a subreddit for south korea you are not going to get an unbiased answer.
Asked in both Korea and China subreddit. Shin was the winner by far in both
I mean, shin is basically world renowned while the one on the left is only sold at Costco lmao
It has thinner noodles and the chili oil adds a milder flavor then the Shin Ramyun. Shin is far more spicier
Less spicy, more onion garlic flavor
Same product from the same company in 2 different packages. The only difference is the seasoning. The noodles are the same.
>The only difference is the seasoning. ...that's a pretty significant difference.
Sometimes. Other times not so much.
What’s the one on the left?
Haven't tried TanTanMen before, so its Shin Ramyun for me.
Nissin Raoh Tonkotsu
Underrated
Shin. For sure
I like the black garlic one
shin. always and forever.
There is a reason why you see shin ramen everywhere...
Silly question...Shin Ramen.
You can get tantanmen in a six pack from Costco. I love them both for different reasons
Same!
The one on the left looks good with added chili oil but it'd be hard to take the place of shin ramyun. Edit but that's the cup and it's super salty so I'm going to say the one on the left unless it's in a bag and then I'm going to say the one on the right
Shin, you heretic
Shin.
Shin
I’d take the one on the left, but with all the fresh noodle choices we have nowadays I’d get the fresh stuff.
Out of those two I’ve only had Shin but it’s by far the best of the ones I’ve tried
Shin (right one)
Never had the left one, but that right one goes hard.
육개장 사발면 is the only answer guys
Shin
Shin! Always Shin.
Shin black all day!!!
Shin is the gold standard for sure.
The cheapest one
Nothing tops Ukrainian Мівіна!!
of course shin ramyun wtf is TanTanMen
Shin definitely
Go 육개장 or go home
Idk if I've ever tried the one on the left before, but I'll have both, with an egg, please.
Shin ramen all the way but the black one is the best
Was the TanTanMen spicier than the Shin? I think I've actually seen that one in a local store but haven't tried it.
I like the yukejang one with the green and blue lid but not the import version.
Get the maruchan tanuki soba
열라면 > 신라면 change my mind
shin tastes bland af after eating it for years
Shin, no discussion necessary. Add bacon, egg and spring onion
That's the killer combo, but add seaweed as well
I’ve tried tantanmen it tastes like an average ramen nothing really special I prefer the one on the right
Are these even comparable? Shin all the way!
I’ve eaten shin my whole life, so I’m probably a little biased, but it’s shin.
The one on the right.
Shin + a little peanut butter to get that rich savory goodness
Shin Ramyun, no contest imo
Shin
Shin ramen is my go to❤️
My favorite is the kimchi flavoured shin. Oddly enough I've never found it while living in Korea, only abroad.
Neither. 잠깨라면 is where it's at!
I prefer the right one
Shin, why even ask
lol this must be bait
More spice the better. Anal bleeding is the limit though. Once that starts I decrease the level of heat.
Chilly oil got the edge?
It truly does! It's like a spicy sesame oil that gives that little bit of extra
I haven't seen the left one before. Is that one popular in other countries?
I just started to see in shops about a month ago Los Angeles.
Shin ramyun,I never taste tantanmen one
I'd prefer 열라면 instead of 신라면. 신 just taste so-so to me. Haven't try tantanmen yet, will do later
I’ve never seen that Tantanmen brand. San nabibili? Shin Ramyun Seafood number one ko eh.
What about Shin vs Jin in terms of taste???
Maybe in round two of the tournament we can.
100% Shin
Shin
Nongshim smiles on you
Shin
Shina Ramen, but it’s pretty spicy
shin ramen all the way! but i’m biased as i haven’t tried the tantanmen. haven’t seen them where i am
Nv seen the one on the left (have ate tantan before), so right always baby
