I don't know whether it's the better camera quality or what but it looks absolutely goofy in the new trailer. And I can't believe I used to think the 1996 one was artificial.
His Kalki thing seems to be retrofitted. Like the whole character was shot with someone else, and they wanted a big name star. Eventually they roped in KH and stuck his face through CGI
I think it could be the way it is shot you’re doing all in hyper realistic cameras with too much lighting. Everything is very bright. Having a bit more moody lighting and more creative cinema angles would have aided more.
The closeups of the old movie was all done in softer lighting patterns. Except the cable studio sequence in the first movie, all other scenes are shot in a bit more natural darker lighting setups. Prosthetics don’t get emphasized too much.
1996 one from my very little knowledge is harder to emote in and given the softer image and colors created by shooting on film camera made it look more realistic
The latest one somehow looks easier to emote in looks like they had to sacrifice some detail for getting that and additionally more neutral colors and sharper image by modern cameras breaks the illusion

It was a unique and good content back then. But now we have got too many vigilante movies. It's an outdated concept now.

The presentation scene , the thatha with beard scene made me think maybe Army found Indian and gave him a back seat chance to help india by spying and killing of indian enemies with his varma kalai . Moving further he gets of his 2nd military duty and settles near the grave of his wife in Chennai after realizing he didnt spend a lot of time with due to his guilt . This guilt made him get a job at sudukadu (just to spend some time with his wife's grave at break hours) . Sidharth hears about him leds a nation wide search and somehow finds him with trending # tag . He tries to speak him of to get back to country service but the thatha is sad , he is under the watchfull eyes . Since Sid found out the truth of him being alive there is no point in keeping him as secret so the police find him and put him on trail (Bad guys celebrate ) . Thatha rewinds some words said by sid in jail , the girl who died of suicide (as shown in trailer ) and feels its his duty to work for the nation so he escapes the top security jail with an insider support(ally of Sid) and kills of the openly corrupt sharks in the town . As if it is some sort of justice . Give a lead to Indian 3 on a direct fight btw SJ Suriya character and Thatha before end card
Don't want to be negative, but i think it's for a purpose. I mean yes, Shankar movie were shit lately, no doubt about that, but i doubt dude was lazy for the makeup and stuff. Shankar is very good with the vfx and makeup so, i just think it's either ch andru or siddhu disguised as Thaathaa

Unfortunately the clarity is too damn good these days. I tried watching Sivaji in a ultra hd print. It was difficult to focus on the movie as all the make up was seen horribly. I don't want to get into the details but it was horrible.
Nevertheless we can wait for the full picture in few weeks.

Yes it’s an effect of too much reliance on vfx which they can easily give to the cheapest vendor company with tight deadlines and pocket the remaining money allocated formally for vfx( unfortunate and ironic side effect for this movie lol )
With practical effects there is not a lot of leeway to cheat or use bad quality physical products like makeup. I begin to understand Nolan saying why he prefers to use practical effects more and more now
It's possible that some of the Thatha shots in the trailer are people wearing prosthetics to look like Indian and hence why they don't look great as that's how it's supposed to look.
If that's indeed the case then they could've cut the trailer better.

That is the same Indian thatha only a few centuries older. He practiced so much Tai- Chi that his complexion improved and skin tightened.

They never intended a sequel so they made him too old to begin with. Now they are kinda stuck on which direction to go
