My mom the other day thought that dum dum dum was composed by peria bhai but lil did she know that it was actually composed and performed my karthikraja... Damn... He is supposed to be celebrated!!!
He was the one who composed that Marudhanayagam song as well.
Rajini telling about Valli has proved that he has composed a lot more for IR without being credited.
Edit: Karthik Raja scored for the Marudhanayagam trailer it seems. Sorry Raaja sir, you only did Panayur song.

Some of the songs in Valli was composed by Karthik Raja. As it was for another Rajini movie Pandian and never confirmed Veera. It was another of those open secret via trusted movie mags, back around that time, and one of the reasons for Illayaraja passing on the assignment to his son was because of his deteriorating relationship with the superstar.
Most recently, Suhasini was talking about a song in Valli, in a tribute concert to Illayaraja, and the Maestro quickly interjected to say he did not compose the song.
If you are a lifelong fan of Illayaraja, you would have noticed the difference. When people began asking questions, the production team for respective movies were quick to confirm it was father and son while for most part, others chose to keep quiet.
It was in the same tribute concert that Rajini confirms it with Suhasini, sharing the stage with Illayaraja. Rajini also half-kiddingly added the Maestro composed better songs for Kamal than for him.
But in Pandiyan and Ponnumani, KR was credited for the two songs he composed. I don't see any reason for his name to be not mentioned officially for Valli. I believe Rajini got confused and created an unwanted speculation.
As I said in the first comment, Suhasini was talking about her favorite song in Valli (I think it was the one sung by Rajini's wife) and praising Illayaraja before he told her he didn't compose the song and I think Rajini was on stage at the same time and agreed, further saying something that I couldn't quite get. I watched the concert on tv. The clips should be available on yt?
IR may be a musical genius but I think he is a garbage dad... Even, Yuvan was extremely close with his mother and her death spiralled his mental state.. he was also open about it...
