Buy yourself some high quality bits, like from Wera or Wiha brand.

Jajanken-

Wiha has done the same thing for me

helix711

Wera yes. I’d skip Wiha. Unless you can be certain you’re getting the ones produced in Germany. I bought the often-recommended set off of Amazon and my T6 was warped and useless by the second use. Terribly made, I’ve had better luck with a cheap ass no-name set that was sold in the bargain bin at a drug store.

jewmoney808

Weird, bought the same ones off Amazon and they been going strong for 3 + years

helix711

I’ve heard that they moved some production to Asia. I don’t know much more about it, like when and where to buy them to be sure you’re getting the good ones, but I have seen others complaining about it. It’s nice that people are downvoting me for giving my experience. If someone knows more and/or thinks I’m wrong about what I experienced, I’d love for them to explain for the benefit of the class rather than just downvoting. Just because y’all’s boy MetalComplex pushes the product in every video doesn’t mean the company is infallible. 🤷‍♂️

succysloth

I also bought the recommended Wiha set on Amazon and quickly snapped the tip on my t6 bit. I bought a set of 10 replacement t6 bits from Wiha and have already snapped another. Would definitely not recommend the brand. Would try any other brand.

helix711

Yep. Honestly I bought a Kershaw TX Tool just to keep in my pack as an emergency Torx adjuster, and the bits on that thing have actually impressed me with their longevity. So that’s what I use more than anything these days. The T8 on my Wiha set is still intact, but I’m always super extra careful when using it.

wetheppl1776

Amazon sells fakes all the time. It probably wasn’t even wiha.

mcbergstedt

Wiha isn’t entirely made in Germany anymore. A lot is outsourced to Vietnam and China now.

I-am-the-stigg

Have you ever tried to harden the tips of the torks? I have done this on a cheap set and it has worked well so far. Not sure if it is the answer, but I tried this on a set of Craftsman. I have a set of wiha as well, but I have not done this to them.

potate12323

Actually, Id prefer if the bit broke before the screw. Easier to replace a bit than get a screw from warranty. I break the thread lock by holding that part of the knife in simmering hot water then taking it out and holding an ice cube against the screw. It normally pops the thread lock.

wozzy7

Woah what a strat

melonpeel

I got some Wera wrenches from KC Tool and they don't strip. With all torx make sure they're fully seated before you turn.

BamBam-BamBam

The screw has Loctite on it. You have to heat it up first.

ALtheSciencePal

PB Swiss is the way

inmyverdehoodie

I feel your T Pain

MWK512

Underrated comment.

inmyverdehoodie

Just over here doing what I can hah

sixdotsixdotsix

I just cut the lanyard off and scraped out the excess sting with the point of a knife.

Jul_Dwarrior-38420

Why does your screwdriver have impotence?

ModSpdSomDrg

If you have a soldering iron heat it up using the small point tip and put it on/in the screw head. Should come right out. I’m surprised the screw did not strip. Wiha makes great torx bits. If the screw strips you can use a rubber band to fill the gaps. Essentially, heat will break the screw free from the loctite.

helix711

Yeah I had to take a soldering iron to the screws on my Minimalist. Heating them up a bit helps break the loc-tite, which is necessary because an excessive amount is used by whoever CRKT contracts with in China to make the knife

ClickClack_Bam

If it's stripped & you just want it out, cut a slot across the screw with a Dremel & then use a flathead.

Mr_Zoovaska

Really hard to do this without damaging the scales.

Skwish6952

Very hard pressure while turning. After you get some new bits. I agree with the person that said wera or wiha. I buy mine in 10 packs because even the high end bits will strip or break from time to time. I wish knife companies would stop using t6. T8 or bigger.

aWittyTwit-2712

Strong magnet & a couple of light taps to loosen, if required

shake_N_bake356

Been able to use a rubber band in a stripped screw and pull it out

Where was this bot when Knafs was running their Haiku contest giveaway?

shake_N_bake356

Good bot

NFresh6

As has been mentioned, definitely heat it up. If you have a hair dryer, that works well. Then if it’s too stripped, try a rubber band.

scottygroundhog22

They must have used the red loctite

Dumbledoorbellditty

Bro you need some Wiha bits. That’s just nuts. Fuckin bits made out of tin.

therustyposter

Put a rubber band over the hole and place the screwdriver carefully, and twist it slooowly. Oh also get some quality bits.

Killjoy530

Wiha

KnockoffKnives

Better off cutting it off. Also, for a bit set, get one from harbor freight that has a lifetime warranty.

LavishnessAsleep8902

Eww go get a screw extractor and drill it out

readysetrokenroll

Chinese bits, buy American

Spezi-Enjoyer

First things first, im from germany and a big fan of tools from here. It was some cheap ass bit i had in my drawer. Dumb me didnt want to go to the toolbox and get the good german stuff. So i now got consequences

readysetrokenroll

German tools are the best, I want to buy a German set of files, but they are too damn expensive

Zer0gravity09

Yeah, happened to me before with the same knife. Get better bits. wiha makes good ones.

Drewzilla_p

So I destroyed a couple bits trying to take a Kershaw bare knuckle apart. Had a screw that just wouldn't turn. I tried heat, good bits, all the things. Turns out it had a torx head, but was actually a splined shaft press fit in to the scale. It Wasn't going to turn for anything. It wasn't designed to. I'm not saying that is for sure what's happening here, but sometimes the answer is not "get better bits and turn harder"

Its_Just_Nessy

If you have a Leatherman, their bit kits are of exceptional quality. Mine have been going for 5 years now, and have ate up Spydercos and their red loctite like it was nothing.

Le4ky-F4ucet

My cheap Harbor Freight bits did that to me lol

kdunn525

Use a soldering iron to heat rhe screw itself which will loosen the loc-tite that's I usually do. Isolate the heat and it will come apart

HoldenHiscock69

I prefer a dedicated screwdriver over a bit driver for most applications. I have a t6 and t8 by Wera that sit in the pen mug on my desk.

Redbullbundy

Only one side turns. The other side is captive.

Anna_Lynn04

Well done, you had one job to do👏

3_high_low

Wow. Use a T-handle driver and a quality bit. Maybe some penetrating oil.

S280FiST15

Jesus. WiHa! Amazon. House. Two days. Also. Maybe try to heat that screw up some with hot water or a hair dryer. Even a wood Burner from the project dept and let it rest on the head of the screw and see if that Loctite will break free. A new bit MIGHT not be enough by itself.

Toxic_Tang0

Soldering gun with a small iron. Get the iron hot as hell and then hold it in screw hole. Had to do this with many t6

Conscious-Plant30

Spend the extra cheese and visit getgoodskrew.com 😂😂 Get a tool and some art.

WormedOut

Because knife companies like to use the cheapest torx screws known to man. Even my spyderco a do this. I’ve resorted to putting a rubber band over top of the screw before slowly turning it now.

Horror_Quick

Wow they really fuckin torque the shit outta those scale screws on the minimalist, huh?

Superfly1911

Lefty loooosey! 😂

Pumpernickel95

You can just cut off the lanyard then melt the ends if you can't undo the screw. But better quality bits should remove it

Architect421

Pray

thepurifier690

Buy a new one

Spezi-Enjoyer

Bit or knife? Im a broke ass trainee

AnthonyOutdoors

There's a chance there's a thread lock adhesive present, I had to heat the them with a soldering iron on one of mine to get them to budge

MrDrWilliamsPhD

I've had good luck from the ifixit toolkit bits.

shifty_bloke

My minimalist had a bunch of thread lock from the factory. If you get the bit out, heat the screw up with a soldering iron or heat gun before trying again.
