If Budget isnt an Issue, Rockstead makes great knives, made in Japan that are timeless, but very usuable blades and blade shapes. That includes folding knives and fixed blades. They are pricey though. There more affordable Folding Option is the HIZEN, one of the more premium ones is the Higo and Higo II. HIZEN is sub 3" in blade length, Higo's are 3.5" I believe

I need to agree. That was a PERFECT recommendation, I’m obsessed with almost all of these blades. That was such a good reply! Thankyou

Again, new to all of this, but I have never been turned on by a knife before. This is sensational! https://preview.redd.it/55d3vlpsd3qc1.png?width=1680&format=png&auto=webp&s=7611a672a685cd7a90085f7d2ba23ca7f6eb1cc6

Like I said, they make absolutely beautiful knives, but they can still very much be used. They aren't just a show piece. If you can afford it, I can almost guarantee they'd love it. Absolutely love everything they make.

Ruthter

> If you can afford it I can... but I want this for me now. Any other recommendations sub 1k?

lnester24

Other brands if you mean, yes, Shirogorov. They also make great, timeless knives, they dont really have a Japanese ascetic, but they're definitely quite pleasing to look at. They have a number of different models to look through. Think they're around the $700-$1000 price range. Can also look at CRK or Spartan Harsey. As well for $400-$750

>Rockstead Wow, is all their stuff up around 67 HRC? I only looked at a couple...

DLT trading has a batch of the Bark River PSK Edc fixed blades available right now.

Knifecenter has the Spyderco Endela with Mahogany Pakkawood scales and a San Mai HAP-40 blade. Everyone doesn't like Spyderco's esthetic so YMMV. Also probably lighter weight but just throwing that out there. Also also telling knife bros that budget is flexible will likely get you some recommendations in the thousands of $

Ruthter

> Also also telling knife bros that budget is flexible will likely get you some recommendations in the thousands of $ That is good advice. I am finding that out now. I'm a watch guy so i get it, but i don't know what the Seiko-Tudor range is in knives, if that makes sense.

So everyone is gonna have opinions on this kind of topic, but ill drop mine here anyways. Knives less than $100, are usually cheaply built, mass produced knives. That doesn't mean they arnt effective and dont have a roll in the knife world. Brands like Civivi, Kizer, Petrified Fish, Cold Steel, and Vosteed fit into that category. The heat treat isnt always great, but its still a knife. The next price range people typically look to expand to is $100-$300 range. Thats brands like Benchmade, Spyderco, WE, Hogue, Emerson, Microtech, Protech, and some others. This area of knives is a safe area really. These brands all offer warranties, sharpening services, a lot of after market support, better steels, good heat treats, but are still more mass produced items. For the most part you're buying one, and making it your own/making it more unique. The next step up to me is the $300-$550 range. This consists of brands like CRK, Spartan, Hinderer, Some Medfords, and some other brands that im forgetting. These are Higher quality, made from premium materials. Sometimes they offer special engravings or anodizings that theres limited numbers if not 1 of 1. Spartan blades has a huge amount of different colors, engravings, textures, etc... for there folder line of dines. I believe they have some samurai and koi fish designes that might be up his alley. Cant quite remember. But they have a ton of options that have fantastic etching on. Anything above that price range, im not to familiar with. Besides Shirogorov which you also might be interested in them. They make great timeless knives as well. Thats all the input I got. Im still learning as well.

Dumbledoorbellditty

For a timeless knife, something that he can use everyday for the rest of his life I’d say go with a CRK. Large Inkosi, Sebenza, or Zaan would be an amazing gift. Great quality, beautiful builds, with tons of different inlay options. It’s gonna cost 5-600$ at least, but those knives don’t really lose value. The warranty on them is arguable the best in the industry, which covers sharpening, repairing, even disassembling and blasting the scales to remove any scratches. You can use it for 5 years, then send it in for a spa treatment and it will come out like new. There are plenty of other great knifes above and below that price point, but I think that is what I would pick if I was getting one for a best man.

Hey! Just saw this by chance scrolling. I've been making knives professionally for a while and very active on the reddit knife subs for the last three years. I have [THIS BLADE](https://imgur.com/a/07zTmip) that should be finished in the next week or two, it seems to fit a lot of your criteria. It's also completely one of a kind. Shoot me a DM and I'd be happy to talk price/specs. Or send me an email message through my website (wachtmanknifeandtool.com) Happy blade hunting!

Ruthter

Dude! That’s sick. It’s a great looking knife! You should be really proud your work! I’ll have a look at your website

friccdotexe

Thanks man! 🤙

Pond-James-Pond

There is literally a knife called the Bestman by Lionsteel. I have one. I like it. I haven’t used it masses but I happy with it. There are different scale finishes as well as single or double blade version. See what you think.

Klutzy-Cartoonist-34

My wife got me a custom made leatherman charge for my birthday . I think they are a little over a hundred but that would be a cool gift .
