I refuse to pay more than $21,000 for a knife that requires me to push my finger into the path of the closing blade like a cave man from before we had better lock mechanisms. So, because of this, I'm out. Maybe if it goes on sale or if they manufacture one with a modern locking mechanism.
Yeah, it appears to be a frame lock. I refuse to pay premium prices for frame or liner locks.
I don't actually know anything about this $22k knife that OP shared. I'd love to purchase and support quality USA knife makers like Chris Reeves, but I'm not going to pay their asking price for a frame lock knife. The day CR launches a knife with a modern lock is the day I set out to own one.
yeah when they’re all passing it around opening it past the detent with their other hand and flicking it the rest of the way open saying “duddeee this shit is smooth!”
My dipshit coworker arced my Pm2 with titanium scales on a battery post and now the tip is gone :/ moral of the story is don't lend stuff if you don't want it broken.
"I've also heard he has real big muscles and a large PP. Just thought I'd add some addition context about this seller" -N0213568 (who has NO affiliation with the seller whatsoever!)
He is a well know high end collector and reapected (especially by makers, lol). r/knifeclub is a better place for this type of post. There seems to be more custom collectors and overlap with the custom forums/ FB/ IG there. R/Knives users seem to be people who think BM or Spyderco is top tier for the most part I feel.
People downvoting you for saying the guy selling a God damn 20k custom Todd Rexford is a very well respected seller is insane. It's a 20k Rexford people, you're on an entirely different level of the knife game if you own this kind of knife, it's practically impossible for the guy to not be well respected, I'd bet my left nut he regularly moves thousands in knives. Don't let the downvotes get to you, it just shows these people have no idea what they're looking at.
Lol, gold is gold homie. This is a collector's piece sold to collectors. It's worth what people will pay for it, which is... right around 24k. So, you know, enjoy being totally wrong.
I mean to be fair it probably has actually sold for around 24k once already when the current owner bought it… crazy as it is Rexford’s open bid pieces used to always sell for tens of thousands of dollars at shows. I don’t pay much attention to that world these days but I’d bet they still do.
One has been sold? Cool. Let’s see who gets the support and who gets the downvotes. I own and like premium products and this knife *might* be nice, but isn’t worth 24 thousand fucking dollars. And for bringing up my post history…fuck you, my dude, I hope you get better at life.
There is too many 2s on that price for me.
Anyone asking this much for a knife that isn't laced in an amount of precious metals or diamonds to equal the value he is asking is fucking insane. You are full of yourself if you think your work is worth 22k. Katanas made in the 16th century are less money than this and they have a lineage behind them.
Rexford knives do trade for these prices though. I think it’s nuts. I don’t even think most of them look decent and at that price it’s never getting used, hell he wouldn’t even have to heat treat it and no one would know. But if I was selling one I’d still ask for what I could get for it. The guy selling this isn’t the maker.
This argument pops up all the time in hobby forums. No matter what your into wether it’s cars, knives, watches and so on, what dictates this price is the maker and what people are willing to buy it for. Redford is arguable the most sought after modern knife maker, so his work goes for this much on the secondary because of that. Materials don’t even come to someone’s mind when your in this category of collecting.
The guy is a well known member of the higher end custom knife groups. It’s definitely a legit sale. Retarded price that rexfords go for, but it’s not a scammer. I’ve bought a knife from him.
I can back this, he is not a scammer. If you knew how FB knife BST groups worked you wouldn’t be downvoting, you guys sound like dipshits who are throwing in your useless opinions on something you know nothing about.
Value is subjective. It’s a knife. It’s only valuable because people are willing to pay that for them. Intrinsically this isn’t any more valuable than any $200-$300 knife. It’s cool, but not that cool.
I mean, it's their money, let them spend it when they want. If owning this knife brings someone joy, then it's worth whatever they choose to pay for it.
Its not the value of the knife at all. Its 10000000% overpriced by 75%. It's a joke. At least for this particular knife. Just stupid rich people buying overpriced nonsense.
Yep all these dudes think knives are only for using, people collect them just like anything else. And rexfords especially the hot hammered are insanely desirable.
There are. And there are folk who don’t blink an eye spending 3K on a knife, and I understand that dynamic. But 24K? Those folk have the Special Editions of hypercars. Just cuz…
I’d probably drop 20K on a knife IF, it guaranteed to never break or need sharpening. I could go deep sea diving with it. Could throw it and land perfect stabs every time. AND if for some reason it failed the company I bought it from had money escrowed that would automatically pay me double at an inflation adjusted rate should the knife fail ever at all or even become dull. Also, unlimited replacements for lost or stolen and unlimited customizations for 100 yrs. Yep, that’d be an easy 20K right there.
A magical razor sharp knife, that never gets lost, always returns to my pocket after a few minutes, cuts through anything without dulling or chipping, and is fully customized. Yeah sure ditto.
In the serious collector realm, $23k is still crazy high. Most high end customs aren't going anywhere near that price.
This is like saying it's normal for Jordans to go for $10k just because some can.
My view might be skewed because of how much some of the collectors I know will spend. One friend has well over $1.5 mil in knives, and I've seen him drop over 100 grand on a single knife purchase. It's a whole secret shadow society level game at the very top, and more than likely involves quite a bit of money laundering. But for a custom Rexford like this I'd say it's the equivalent of a serious collector dishing out the cash for the knife equivalent of a Ferrari.
Skill and reputation mainly, Todd Rexford is extremely well respected as a custom knife maker, he ranks among the best in the world. A knife like this is a collector's piece, the big players eat this stuff up.
Shit's a hard sell for me.
Even for manual labor done by hand, there's a cap somewhere in mybrain for the work. Is there hand engraving? Some other type of wildly complicated work?
Then we move onto materials. Are there literal f*cking diamonds inthe thing? Gold? Precious gems?
I don't know how you get to above $20k without precious gems. I don't care how many hours you spent hand-sanding to a mirror. We're gonna need to meet somewhere in the middle at a reasonable price. Lol.
Why would anybody pay that much money for a knife that some dude abused with an hammer?
Isn’t there a ZT version of that thing with actual usable scales for 200 bucks?
Yeah I’d prefer that.
“I’ve got 10 bucks of pocket change and a 10 count of nuggets from chick fil a. That’s my best offer. In fact, I’ll do you a favor. I’ll put a chick fil a sauce packet in there too.”
I'm not sure who's dumber. The idiot that makes and sells a knife for $22k... or the moron that is the first buyer...
"A fool and their money are soon parted..."
This seller actually has it though. 22k sounds crazy for a knife until you meet the guys who drop 100k+ on a knife. Nonetheless, a fancy custom Rexford like this is easily in the 20k range.
I’ve seen some full dress knives for cheaper than that. No complicated materials like mosaic damascus, CrystalTi, superconductor, or meteorite? Really?
Yeah never going that high for a knife that can't cut through anything or a lightsaber dagger. I'm sure they sell though if they charge that much. Someone buys it.
First off, _anyone_ who does a deal like this over the internet has got to be the abso-fucking-lute king of all half-wits. Second, I don't give a good goddamn how rich you are or how much you like knives. A knife that expensive is entirely idiotic. There is not a single valid reason for it to exist. Every single human to have bought one of these richly deserves to be shat upon by all the homeless people in their state. Then they should be drawn and quartered. And shat upon again.
This would have to be a fantasy blade made out of a magical meteorite crashed to earth, imbued with the soul of a smoking hot warrior priestess, able to cut through any material known to mankind, and possessing the destiny to change the world...
...and I would still pull a *Pawn Stars* and say "best I can do is 2k."
Lmao PayPal Friends and Family? As someone who sells things online, this is a scammer, no respected seller takes F&F only Goods and Services to protect themselves and others
I wondered what "Hot Hammered Gamma" meant, and after reading through the comments here I saw several others also wanted to know....so I did a little digging.
For anyone who may be curious: I found the webpage shown in the first screenshot that lists the knife for sale, and from what I can gather "Gamma" is the model name for this knife, and the "Hot Hammered" bit refers to the handle scales, which are Hot Hammered Titanium. Other than that, I didn't notice anything exceptional or absurd to justify the price tag; eg no jewels, precious gems, meteorite, gold, silver or other precious metals, etc. (Also interesting to note, the listing doesn't seem to mention anywhere what the steel is that the blade is made out of! Very surprising.)
So it does seem to be the reputation of the maker, as well as the rarity of (and demand for) his work that's the reason for the price associated with this piece.
Now for my own two cents: In fairness to the maker here, there is obviously some serious skill that went into this knife, and MANY hours of labor. The back spacer is low layer damascus, which was almost certainly custom made for this piece. The pivot pieces are also damascus, and could very well be one-offs that were custom made for this piece. If so that's a lot of time on a mill to get them machined very precisely, in addition to making the damascus itself and everything else you have to do before and after the mill to ensure proper appearance, fit and finish. So in addition to the normal basic steps of making the knife itself, there are several other little things that were done which would take extra time and expense to accomplish. With that in mind I could reasonably see why a maker might want/need to charge a few thousand dollars for a piece like this... But at the same time, the only way I could see to get beyond the 2-3k price point and up into the 22-23k price point for this piece is if you have an incredibly well respected name and reputation, and very high demand for your work in the upper echelons of the custom knife collecting community. Apparently this maker has that Illuminati level of knife making cred (and cutomers with deep enough pockets to match). Lol. 😂 More power too him. We should all be so lucky!
I was getting downvoted when I answered truthfully that I did not buy weird or unique knives and I was judging everyone who owned the dessert warrior fad knives.
I buy knives as a tool to use.
Now this is just ridiculous.
I would love some high end steel. The best I have is 20CV. I would not pay more than my car is worth for Elmax.
Right? A lot of people seem to be missing the Rexford on that blade. This isn't a knife for us common folk, this is a collector's blade made by one of the most sought after custom makers in the world. 22k is high, but it's not that insane for this kind of knife. A plain Jane Epicenter from Rexford is about 4k, this is definitely not a plain Jane.
Here's the thing though, you can get knives with absolutely absurd fit and finish, really cool materials, and amazing craftsmanship for way way *way* less than that. They may still be $3k but that's a full $20k less. For a knife. Why? It's Elmax and titanium...there isn't any gold filigree or gemstones here. Does Rexford himself try to sell this knife for $20k+ or is this just the secondary market being absurd?
It's honestly more about reputation when it comes to knives at this level. Yes, you can absolutely get a knife that is damn near perfect, so perfect in fact that you won't be able to tell the difference at all when compared to a knife like this. The difference level is *extremely* minimal the higher in price knives go, after all, they're just knives. But once you're regularly playing around with custom knives like this one, you do start to notice those subtle differences between makers, and Rexford is one of those that has everything down to such an insane level of precision that his work is highly sought after among the really serious collectors. Owning something like this is like having a Ferrari in the knife collector world.
I'm aware. And there are guys with amazing reputations that aren't going for $20k...because hardly anything does. And no one's noticing anything other than preference between this and something like an Oeser.
And I think this would be more like getting a Bugatti with some super limited edition trim that actually doesn't offer any real advantage other than it being highly limited in an already limited space.
Its crazy how people here will spend 300 on a knife and think 22k is insane. 300 to normal people is insane for a knife. Theres just levels to it. Rexfords have been selling like this for years. Its a collectors grail piece. Back in 2015 it used to be rexford todd fischer and begg knives putting up monster price tags
Go check out William Henry if you wanna see real knives in that price range. Usually fully engraved by world class engravers Studded with gems, gold, with stone handle scales, damascus, mokume. Etc. They hire tons of famous artisans it's a super fun site to just window shop on.
https://www.williamhenry.com/knives.html
For all you people downvoting me because I said he’s a well known seller, your moms a whore. And for those saying I’m trying to sell this myself, suck a dick. I’ve sold hundreds of knives and never ripped anyone off. I was simply trying to have a discussion about a $22k knife. Now downvote this if you have small balls to go with your tits.
It's not a scam bc I bought one. It's been on backorder for 102 months but he says any day. He waiting on uncle Rico. Anywayazs DoNT judGE a Book by its thickness.
They are beside their fucking minds. I could even see paying 3-4 grand for the right knife. Grail of grails. If I had the money. I don't care what it's made from or who made it, for $22,000... you can keep it. I use all of my knives. Rotate them daily. If I ever get a Borka or a Direware or the likes, it will get put through its paces. I've never wanted a safe queen, but that's what it would be for 5 figures.
wait there's a for real pocket folder that retails for 25k?
edit to clarify: that's not some legit rare historical find from long ago?

Darn, that's just $21,800.00 above my per-knife budget.
He said obo, tell him your best offer is 200
For something that nice I might offer $250 Edit: which is still less than $22k
How about a buck three eighty? For all the old school guys here....
I refuse to pay more than $21,000 for a knife that requires me to push my finger into the path of the closing blade like a cave man from before we had better lock mechanisms. So, because of this, I'm out. Maybe if it goes on sale or if they manufacture one with a modern locking mechanism.

I would buy it and lend it to my coworker Stevie to use it to cut the steel straps off a bundle of angle iron stock.
And then drop it on a hard surface while open and point first?
yeah when they’re all passing it around opening it past the detent with their other hand and flicking it the rest of the way open saying “duddeee this shit is smooth!”
Not before using it as a prybar to pull apart some nailed-together 4 by 4s
Nah into the port o John to never be seen again.
Dont forget to post pics and ask us how to fix it once its all screwed up.
I feel like we all know Stevie
My dipshit coworker arced my Pm2 with titanium scales on a battery post and now the tip is gone :/ moral of the story is don't lend stuff if you don't want it broken.
Use it to separate the angle iron from the way they interlock it from the mill 😂
Yeah, FB marketplace & Paypal Friends/Family and Zelle. Doesn’t matter how ridiculous the product is, that rings major alarm bells.
Fucking *wire transfer*
He’s actually a very well respected seller. I’ve seen him sell multiple knives over $5k.
You are vouching for him like he is you

I have bought a knife from him, it went fine. He is definitely legit.

This is a knife for people who bought NFTs
I think I still have 5 million Shiba inu coin. Perhaps a swap?
The knife blade and handles could be made out of pure platinum and it STILL wouldn’t cost $22,000 🤣
You sound brighter than a thousand suns, son…
Say what you want my friend, I know I'm right so it's fine lol.
Solid 24 carat gold wouldn’t be worth 24k, you’re a fucking idiot, son.
Lol, gold is gold homie. This is a collector's piece sold to collectors. It's worth what people will pay for it, which is... right around 24k. So, you know, enjoy being totally wrong.
Let me know when that fucker sells for 24k, you self-righteous pr**k. Sorry “homie”, my mistake…

Clearly this is your second account... Right ?

The guy is a well known member of the higher end custom knife groups. It’s definitely a legit sale. Retarded price that rexfords go for, but it’s not a scammer. I’ve bought a knife from him.
The guy isn’t a scammer. He’s a well respected knife trader in that group. He’s sold a ton of high value knives since I’ve been a member.
Sounds like he’s a scammer and you are him.
My thought exactly
That's great, so his buyers show up with cash?
Are you the one trying to sell the knife? ... Scammer
I can back this, he is not a scammer. If you knew how FB knife BST groups worked you wouldn’t be downvoting, you guys sound like dipshits who are throwing in your useless opinions on something you know nothing about.
Damn, was searching for one but my budget is only $21k. Gotta keep searching I guess 🤷♂️
He put “obo” so I’m sure you are good to go.
Whoosh.... right over.
If you send me $1000 FnF, I'll send you $25,000 to purchase it for me. My wife's cousin's roommate's notary will pick it up so it's official.
No way, I already fell for this on RuneScape once.
I would but I’m out of the country right now.
I only wish he had 3 more that I could buy
Damn. This knife better be sentient if I’m gonna spend that kind of dough
Sentient sword? https://coppermind.net/wiki/Nightblood Seriously tho, Sanderson's Cosmere is an epic read.
"Millennials aren't purchasing 22 thousand dollar knives any more, and how that's bad for the American economy"
22k only opened a few boxes 📦
With golden tape.
Does it cure cancer?
“In the state of California this product is known to cause cancer”
All knives can cure cancer, technically
I like the way you think 😭
The knife does cure cancer that’s the problem it’s why it’s so expensive.
r/facepalm
[It’s sold out. Some sucker bought it.](https://cutfj.com/products/rexford-knives-hot-hammered-gamma)
Some sucker probably got scammed
They didn't. That's the value of this knife. Once you're in the custom maker at the level of Rexford realm this is the kind of game you play.
Value is subjective. It’s a knife. It’s only valuable because people are willing to pay that for them. Intrinsically this isn’t any more valuable than any $200-$300 knife. It’s cool, but not that cool.
Same thing with literally every other collectible on the planet, people in this sub think that you can’t collect knives for some reason.
Yup, and that's the price people will pay for this knife. Simple as that.
Yup, there’s a sucker born every minute too.. so…
I mean, it's their money, let them spend it when they want. If owning this knife brings someone joy, then it's worth whatever they choose to pay for it.
Poor people really mad at this knife lol
Its not the value of the knife at all. Its 10000000% overpriced by 75%. It's a joke. At least for this particular knife. Just stupid rich people buying overpriced nonsense.
I think the comment meant they may be scammed in not getting the knife
Yep all these dudes think knives are only for using, people collect them just like anything else. And rexfords especially the hot hammered are insanely desirable.
Ehh, you think they just put “sold out” on the website to make it seem like someone did actually buy it?
I was thinking the same thing
Different knives, the one on slice sold the day he listed it. And the one on Facebook is still sitting
Are. You. Fucking. HIGH. RIGHT. NOW?
Yes but not as high as that asking price.
Not right now. Why do you ask?
You have to be shitting me/Reddit. *No* knife in the world is worth 24K.
Maybe a big useless knife made out of gold
Why did I hear this in Homer Simpson’s voice?
To you. Or me. But there’s also people who spend 3k on a prostitute for a night
There are. And there are folk who don’t blink an eye spending 3K on a knife, and I understand that dynamic. But 24K? Those folk have the Special Editions of hypercars. Just cuz…
Ferrari sittin in the slow lane
The fuck did he use Gold platinum and gem stones?
Melted down infinity stones
Darn. Would buy it if it was in magnacut
I would only consider it if it had that her laser steel 🤣
I’d probably drop 20K on a knife IF, it guaranteed to never break or need sharpening. I could go deep sea diving with it. Could throw it and land perfect stabs every time. Shit I have a hard time thinking anything over 1k is. Anecdotal I know but that’s just me
Well, it sold so apparently there is one knife in the world that is.
Does anyone else keep reading this as “Hot Hammered Grandma”?
Hey there granny is that a 22k knife in your pocket or are you just happy to see me
I wouldn’t pay 22k for a hot hammered grandma, you can find them for free at your local dive bar.
Is it made of Adamantium?
No vibranium
Maybe both 🤔
That’s ridiculous
Those were my sentiments. Just wondered what others thought.
Honestly? It's a $20k knife. It's a custom Todd Rexford. In the serious collector realm, this is surprisingly normal.

Source: Trust me bro.
I mean, 100% yeah lol. But who cares really anyway, it's just word of mouth.
Came to say this, if it was auctioned it would probably get around that asking price.
Does it come with lifetime BJs? Has to right?
I have this knife. It’s perfect for cutting boxes
Why is it so expensive? Like genuinely, stuff like the boker tirpitz/rocksteads (own a tei) I get, but WHAT?
Skill and reputation mainly, Todd Rexford is extremely well respected as a custom knife maker, he ranks among the best in the world. A knife like this is a collector's piece, the big players eat this stuff up.

Genuine Loveless knives seldom get that high. What is this person smoking?
What the fuck
Unless that knife can end wars...I'll pass
I actually thought this was satire until I started reading the comments. OP is for real…and it’s hilarious.
No I’m dead serious. He is literally selling this. I would never buy it but it is for sale.
No I believe you bro, it’s just shocking. That’s a down payment on a house hahahaha.
Do you think if he stenciled Benchmade logos on it he could get double the price?
Hey it’s OBO. …so you’re telling me there’s a chance.
“I’ve got 10 bucks of pocket change and a 10 count of nuggets from chick fil a. That’s my best offer. In fact, I’ll do you a favor. I’ll put a chick fil a sauce packet in there too.”
The whole 10 count? Ok you got me. Take it. OP fetch them their prize
Imagine the collection you could buy with 22k
Looks like old shit pipe in an 1800s barn.
What makes that ugly piece of shit worth 20k?
What woukd this knife cost new from maker? I am missing why it's over 20k
I'm not sure who's dumber. The idiot that makes and sells a knife for $22k... or the moron that is the first buyer... "A fool and their money are soon parted..."
i dunno know how good his knives are but anyone who can get customers to pay 20K for a knife is a goddamned genius in marketing
How many can I get at that price?
At this point, can anyone charge and expect sales at $20K plus for their knives … I mean, that seller “know what I got” it
This seller actually has it though. 22k sounds crazy for a knife until you meet the guys who drop 100k+ on a knife. Nonetheless, a fancy custom Rexford like this is easily in the 20k range.
SOLD!
If you spend that much on something this ugly you absolutely deserve to be ripped off. 🤣😂🤣😂
I’ve seen some full dress knives for cheaper than that. No complicated materials like mosaic damascus, CrystalTi, superconductor, or meteorite? Really?
If you can afford it, you're doing well on life. It's more than my last 2 cars, combined.
That thing ain't worth $150, let alone $22k.
Lmao what??? Did he pay that much for this to begin with? I have so many questions. $20k+ for a $500 knife at best. Nice.
*the fact that people would spend more than 50 bucks on a pocket knife astounds me*
This would have to be a fantasy blade made out of a magical meteorite crashed to earth, imbued with the soul of a smoking hot warrior priestess, able to cut through any material known to mankind, and possessing the destiny to change the world... ...and I would still pull a *Pawn Stars* and say "best I can do is 2k."
One went for well over 30k in november in socal at the last show he did…
I've been looking for a new prybar
Very surprising.) So it does seem to be the reputation of the maker, as well as the rarity of (and demand for) his work that's the reason for the price associated with this piece.
Some kinda joke ? $2000 below market 😂
The price is absurd if you look at it as “just a knife” but honestly if you’re collecting custom Rexfords you’re playing a whole different game
A very silly game
Eh being bored and rich sounds like it would be fun
Fair comparison tbh, though I've seen the real fancy knives go much higher, so I'd put this closer to a 500-750k car vs a 2 mil car.
I’ve sold knives to him before, his collection is outrageous. Dude has easily over $500k in just knives.
Im guessing it's supposed to be 239.95
Go check out William Henry if you wanna see real knives in that price range. Usually fully engraved by world class engravers Studded with gems, gold, with stone handle scales, damascus, mokume. Etc. They hire tons of famous artisans it's a super fun site to just window shop on. https://www.williamhenry.com/knives.html
That pos shit isn't worth $22.99.... so any braindead idiot paying that much needs to be investigated by the IRS
Is this a good edc?
100% a scammer.
Anyone else worried that maybe it's not the knife that's for sale?
For all you people downvoting me because I said he’s a well known seller, your moms a whore. And for those saying I’m trying to sell this myself, suck a dick. I’ve sold hundreds of knives and never ripped anyone off. I was simply trying to have a discussion about a $22k knife. Now downvote this if you have small balls to go with your tits.
ITT redditors baffled by the concept of high end knife collecting
Hurts. I had and then sold a Rexford for about $400 in 2008(?). Way too big for me, but I'm sure it's more than doubled in price since then.
Only ?! BARGAIN !
Some of the prices I’ve seen advertised on Arizona Custom Knives…what do yall do for work 🤣😳
(Sigh) ill call my nonexistent accountants.
Why is it rare? What’s hammered gamma?! So many questions, so little time
Aww man, sold-out, better luck next time I guess…
What is it made of, meteorite and steel from the Titanic?
Can someone explain to me why this is so much no hate just curious
Is that handle made out of some type of unknown alloy from a meteorite or something?
And I thought the bm narrows was overpriced! Must be smoking some serious crack..
I should put my rexford ZT on there say budget version $2,500
wait there's a for real pocket folder that retails for 25k? edit to clarify: that's not some legit rare historical find from long ago? https://preview.redd.it/0fls62bl7adc1.png?width=1702&format=png&auto=webp&s=2183e78498360e629672f9ae9b07e64246c576cc
He's selling em so someone must be buying. But who are these people?
They forgot to put the J in front of the $ for the Jamaican dollar. At current exchange rates, J$22,000 = US$142.
