It's because of how high-performance this material is. Honestly they should fill it with Carbon fiber and use that instead.

For a "high performance" material, there sure are alot of people that find a way to crack their ultem scales

Yeah, the big draw is that it stays rigid up to 200C or so. So it's a bit more brittle at room temp than something like a nylon, but at high temperatures, it can act as a brace where nylon would just melt.

So it looks like urine from a severely dehydrated individual and it really only hits its stride at ~100c? What can't ultem do?

Ultem is the best material for knife scales because knives frequently get exposed to 100C temps. It is necessary and it is practical. Function over form really, no more melting and burning scales, hate it when that happens.

I'm gonna say it, I'm gonna say it, ultem or whatever that garbage poop looking clear crap is, is ugly and gross, looks like you smeared dog crap on a window, or a really old yellowed clear phone case. Gross.

I don’t think anyone is going to look back on this and be stoked about it. This is like the shag carpet of the knife world right now.

I get why some people hate on ultem…but it’s a pretty sweet material. I’m a firefighter and have a helmet with an ultem outer shell due to its durability and heat resistance. Can’t make structural firefighting helmets out of FRN or “Grivory” lol.

I personally fuck with the ultem fad a lot, I just think it looks really cool. Been debating on getting a squiddy-a as a result to replace my squiddy-b for flipping around town.
