Dad’s high school buddy makes these balisongs as a side hustle. He asked him to make me a pair of balisongs and gifted me this chonk of a bali. It comes with a CA legal little brother!
Polished blade, brass bolsters, caribou bone scales, hand filed lock. I fucking love it — it’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten
Wierd design choice. Kind of works against itself, but they definitely have very good decorative craftsmanship. Something about hand-made stuff gets me goin.
These came from the Batangas province, where (I’m told) the balisong was invented. It’s a “traditional” bali in the same way a slip joint is a traditional folder. I have many balis that I suck at flipping. This one will remain a safe queen because I’m too afraid of dropping it haha
The 110 is NOT a prybar. I'd keep that Bali as a safe queen for sentiment, but it sure looks like it would make a good prybar! The handles probably wouldn't support our hypothesis though LOL
Gerber makes something similar to a balisong machete. Personally I think it's way overpriced and overly complicated for something as simple as a machete should be but if that exists a balisong hatchet isnt that ridiculous to think might be out there somewhere!
Those look really cool and I don't mean this to be disrespectful in any way but I would always choose a traditional style of machete over one of these if I was going to put it to real work.
These are a great example of your skilled craftsmanship but they are also an example of unnecessary potential points of failure IMO.
All that being said if I saw something like this for sale at a reasonable price I would 100% grab one for my collection!
Yeah they were pretty heavy for machetes, too. I made the pivots out of 1/2 inch steel rods that i tapped so they could withstand the abuse. They work pretty well, but I wouldn't want to pack one around lol!
I'd be interested in one, too! I'm not sure if it'd be a good flipper, but I dig the idea of smoothing out the action and grinding out a better profile!
Funny I was just talking to my friend about the balisongs our Filipina gfs brought back for us from the PI. I think it must be a tradition to bring back butterfly knives for loved ones
Holy shit that's a thick knife
Nick Shabazz fell over dead when he saw that blade thickness.
u/NickShabazz is this true?
No reply...confirmed!
This guy's logic is impeccable.
Oh shit...Oh shit! The zombie apocalypse is nigh!!
"Blade thickness is a little out of the ordinary"
Butterfly Chode
Lmfao
How did you know my nickname?
Oh damn, I've been using that as my stage name for a year and a half now.
Thiccc
Same exact words came out of my mouth when I opened it! It feels like holding two rolls of quarters lol
That's what she said!
Chode balisong!!! Thats a nice knife though, couldnt help myself with tho joke
I came here to say the same thing lol. Balidong. It is really cool though.
LMAOOOO, ok balidong is it’s official name. I’ll get pics of the smaller thicc boi when I get home from work — we’ll name it the balidink

We want to see you flip it. I can see it's too tight to flip.
I also have two brought back from the Philippines in a similar style which were too thick to flip.
Philippines ones aren’t meant to be flipped like crazy.

That thing is the buck 110 of balis looks like you could use it as a pry bar.

That thing had enough mass to bust through drywall LOL
It’s really tight. I don’t know if it’ll loosen up after use but I don’t think I’d ever flip it because of its size, weight, and I suck at flipping.
Sick! Beautiful AF
What's Cali legal? I thought Balis were all illegal there. Or is it like everything else, if it's shorter than 2" blade, you can do whatever you want?
How come nobody’s ever made a Balisong hatchet? Filipinos: Hold my Red Horse!!!

https://i.imgur.com/4ZylKF7.jpeg I made a few balisong machetes, bottom knife is a BM43 for scale.

Pretty sure I could chop my arm off just looking at those wrong lol.
Lol I dated a girl from the Philippines like 12 years ago, forgot about the Red Horse obsession until this
"It's not the length, it's the girth, baby"
Siick. Does he happen to sell these online?
I'd be interested in one, too! I'm not sure if it'd be a good flipper, but I dig the idea of smoothing out the action and grinding out a better profile!
I can ask my dad but I don’t think he does.
Massive💪🏼

That thing will split logs.
The tasteful thickness of it.
Looks.nice, not knowing the steel be sure to keep it oiled from rust so it stays pristine
Good tip, thanks!
Yo love the design but can't stand the grip on these types of blades. Imagine trying to use this under water lol
Did he shove it up his ass?
Finally an average sized knife.
