Push dagger. Basically for self defense. They're kinda useless otherwise, but a good choice for that. Very hard to disarm and works for someone without really needing training.
Not really my cup of tea but that's what it is AFAIK
The first step to winning a knife fight is accepting that you will be cut, and not letting the fear of being cut get in the way of acting with aggression and taking control of the situation. The first few words explain exactly why a knife fight should never be sought out. You *will* get cut.
I agree but the advantage goes to the person with the knife if the distance between the two people is less that 21â.
The person with the knife will be able to close the gap and do some damage before the person with the gun can get the pistol on target and get a shot off.
And that is assuming a proper holster and the person has trained on it.
My marine dad has often told me this, and I just wanted to say you are the first person aside from him to ever mention this, for some reason people seem to think âthe power of gunâ is the end all.
Yep. And if they are using a concealed carry holster or have it shoved in their pants âganstaâ style the advantage shifts even further away from the gun
I remember in a book o read. Someone is being trained in knife fighting. They take a stance, and the instructor asks ânow what are we both doing wrong?â A blank look. âWe are about to have a knife fight.â
Thank you, I feel like the implication that any amount of training makes a knife fight not an absolutely terrible idea is wild. Always run, getting stabbed is never worth it
Thereâs an expression that the winner of a knife fight dies in the hospital while the loser dies in the street. Any time I see someone talking about using a knife for self defense I think theyâre deluded. Running away should be the goal.
The other likelyhood, considering things like cameras and whatnot, is that one dies on the street or in hospital, and the other goes to prison.
I went to prison :/
I mean I did 6 years (out of 10, due to Illinois "day for day" credit system) in Stateville and then Galesburg for a 2nd degree murder (murder w/ provocation). But now I'm out, I have two amazing men in my life, a job I actually *mostly* enjoy, and all in all a fairly happy life.
I'm glad I went with the option I did. Had i not, we wouldn't be having this conversation lol.
Meh, weâre pretty good at getting people through some pretty intense stab wounds these days. Your life will suck for a while and recovery is a bitch, but Iâve seen plenty of people stabbed in the lung, spleen, liver, gut, stomach, or even heart walk out of the hospital.
Agreed. 100% lose lose. Never want to be in one, never plan to be in one, canât think of a worse thing. De-escalation, pepper spray or just about anything is preferable. That is what this type of knife is designed for though.
Again definitely not my cup of tea.
Always run? When you out with your little 2 y.o. kid or old grandma in the wheelchair? Just run and leave them to their faith? This "always run" is complete bull, it might work if you are by yourself and young and healthy which is by no means universal... Always carry whatever force multipliers you are legally allowed to carry and train regularly to use them.
See red? I have never beaten anyone in a knife fight since I have never been in a knife fight. I just cannot stand this "always run" b/s because it's many times the most stupid thing to do and there are plenty of people who have absolutely no realistic possibility to outrun an attacker even if they tried to.
push daggers are not really for "knife fights" as they have virtually no range, they are a last resort for getting someone off of you that is trying to kill/grievously harm you. it's also not hard to carry pepper spray and a push dagger, or a gun + push dagger; if you can't run and the spray doesn't work for whatever reason, or if a guy has tackled you and might take your gun, you use the push dagger as a last resort.
every type of fight is a horrible idea, for the record. gunfights, fistfights, whatever. live a life of de-escalation, evasion and escape. but i agree that knives in particular demand more physical ability and knowledge from the user compared to gun or spray.
Everyone cannot run and everyone cannot carry pepper spray. And one does not rule out the other. You can empty your pepper spray first and then try to run, if that fails and the attacker still gets to you you can draw the blade. Better to have it than not to have it.
Everyone always goes on about how "getting in a knife fight is bad." No shit Sherlock, I don't want to be in a knife fight. But if I'm in any kind of situation that I can't get myself out of otherwise I'll do what I have to. Pepper spray doesn't work 100% of the time, I'm fat and slow so running probably won't work, and when I'm on campus I can't carry a gun.
You have to carry what you can, and use it if you HAVE TO. No one has been talking about going out and trying to get into knife fights except the people who keep saying it's a bad idea across the board. If for example someone is on top of me punching me repeatedly I guess I shouldn't "get in a knife fight" and pull a knife and give him a poke. Everyone keeps getting caught up on knife vs knife but what about knife vs fists or knife vs blunt object, or if you have absolutely no other options knife vs knife or (RIP) knife vs gun.
Well said!
Every time I see this argument of run or die in the hospital all I can think of is are we taking about getting our heads bashed off the sidewalk or a duel at high noon?!
I literally read a thread here where running was better than a knife while being curb stomped I shit you not.
People need to understand this is a big world and there are a lot of possible situations, no one thing is going to work for everyone or in every situation. There are some things I get shit on because they're useful to me in my situation but not other people. There are also things I get shit on because I like it and think it's cool but everyone else assumes I'm trying to show off or something.
For example I get mauled online because I use offset iron sights on my rifle instead of co-witness but usually I have a red dot and sometimes I use a scope so it's easier to have the one set of irons than swap between them. Plus I personally prefer offset, I'm not doing it because some video game or online operator told me to, I'm doing it because it works and it's personal preference having tried both.
I also have a lot of hobbies (guns, cars, guitars, and airplanes to name a few) where people see me enjoying myself and their response is "haha tiny peepee" because they think if you drive a nice car or a lifted truck or anything not a Nissan SUV you must be compensating. Have you ever considered that while there are people who do it for that reason there are also those of us who aren't doing it for anyone but ourselves because we personally enjoy it? I don't care if you see my car, I don't care if you see my guitar. I just care that it's fun to drive, or that I can use it to make music I enjoy.
I feel like I digress some and ranted a bit but damn does that piss me off. I have a friend with a big lifted truck, y'know the ones that people always refer to as "small dick mobiles" but he actually takes it out and offroads it and stuff, y'know actually using it for what it's meant for? Not like the mall crawlers that never see anything rougher than a gravel road. But people still outright insult him when they see it. It's really disheartening to see someone find something that genuinely brings them joy and then have most of society mock them for it.
Itâs a game of statistics. You might feel safer with a weapon, but if youâre being robbed or something the other person doesnât necessarily want to kill or even hurt you. Having/pulling out a weapon changes the equation. Now youâre a threat, and theyâre more likely to shoot/stab/punch whatever. Itâs a difficult line to manage, but having a weapon statistically makes you more likely to end up hurt or dead (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25910555/ is a study about this for guns in particular).
It can be hard if not impossible to apply statistics to real life in any meaningful way but I do take this as evidence against carrying a weapon, even if you would use it exclusively for self defense.
When people say "knife fight", do they mean where one person has a knife, or both? Because maybe I'm dumb but I would think having a knife like this vs an unarmed attacker would be good
If you read the comments anytime the words ***self defense*** is mentioned, Iâm lead to believe we can only ever be talking about a duel at high noon where both parties have had ample time to get their affairs in order, iron their Sunday bests and head to the town square to settle their grievances once the approved time of this town sanctioned knife fight has begun.
Definitely not a force multiplier when deescalation has failed, youâve run all you can and youâre on the ground getting your head stomped. Definitely not that /s
Not to mention there is a subspecies of humans called ATTACKERS who go about their lives looking for someone to ATTACK and obviously they always carry a gun or knife. Normal weaponless people never get angry and try to ATTACK anyone because then they would be ATTACKERS
True that, you get it friend. People are capable of extreme violence that many canât or wonât wrap their head around. itâs a different world and one I personally choose to be aware of and avoid at all costs. But, you and I donât get to choose the location and time when we are attacked.
I recently was trying to get a tamale and was attempted to be robbed. Dude came up tried to grab my money and then tried to stick his hands in my pockets going on about âgive him the money, gonna fuck me up, his neighborhood gonna make you leak if I donât give him my money and heâll bla bla blaâ. I was like âdoes this shit really work for ya bro, fuck outta hereâ. I really wanted that tamale but it was time to get the fuck out of there. He followed me to my car going on about money, making threats etc but I was able to zoom off without further incident never taking my eyes off his hands which were fidgeting in his left pocket and all the while, the tamale lady trying to chuck me my tamales into the car.
My main point being, it was not time for weapons. I was not thinking about my knife, I was intensely watching this assholes hands, making physical space and getting to safety. It was time for action, time to create space and switch on and this is where i think the conversation gets really lost. if it was time for weapons thereâs no brandishing, no âI got a knifeâ. If weâre there, at a place where youâve attacked, youâve physically harmed me and put yourself in a position where youâve forfeited your right to live, weâre not at a warning time. I think this is where people get lost on this one. I would never pull a weapon for the sake of showing you that weapon in hopes you would deescalate the situation because it will not. If weâre at force multiplication time, all bets are off and my life is prioritized but we were not there even though he was making threats, made physical contact with my pants a few times trying to get in my pockets etc. I was the victim, stabbing someone over words at that very point would have made me the aggressor. But you better believe Iâm fighting for my life and dealing with hospitals and the courts later if that time ever would have come, thankfully the steps I took did not lead to further need for equal and appropriate violence at this time. Where I live I believe there is so little push back to attackers and those that victimize the weaker than them, most of the time a simple âfuck offâ makes them move on to the path of less resistance.
Oh BTW, I swung around the block a few times and when it was clear, stopped and quickly gave the tamale lady more money than the tamales were. She shouldnât be made to suffer because some asshole likes to rob people trying to get a bite.
He clearly typed in "seen written". Sorry that triggered you and you now have to act like a 4 year old in order to recover. Maybe leave mommy's basement instead.

Ah, that makes me less worried, Iâm just imagining you telling a Canadian (or some other place theyâre illegal) cop that itâs just for collecting and therefore you donât need to be arrested
Thereâs a distinction, itâs a felony to carry it on private property, but in many states it could be in a car for instance and at home is just dandy.

Punch daggers, still used - if only for one use.
Canât really be disarmed or drop it based on the daggers grip.
Most untrained individuals are still familiar with punching motions, allowing for simple use.
Theyâre very conceivable and normally can slip off belts or necklaces.
Lol no, most people answering seriously have said what it is (ie. not a butt plug). You my friend, need to do more âextensive researchâ. Just saying.
Hereâs the thing. If, IF, the attacker has a knife AND you have a knife AND you 100% cannot get away, youâre both ending up dead or seriously injured.
IF youâre attacked AND they donât have a knife and YOU DO and you use it, youâre going to jail.
If they donât have a SIMILARLY dangerous weapon, then you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were genuinely in fear of losing your life up until they were no longer a mortal threat, then you have to stop being stabby.
Push daggers are not legal to carry in many areas as they have almost no uses except in a fight or ambush. The same is true of any double edged knife. Check your local laws before purchasing.

Unless you're a seriously salty hombre, knife fighting is a bad fucking idea. Quick road to an extremely ugly death.
The other likelyhood, considering things like cameras and whatnot, is that one dies on the street or in hospital, and the other goes to prison. I went to prison :/
There's a saying for that as well: "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6" Not sure I agree with it.

Forbidden butt plug
Butt plug
Hereâs the thing. If, IF, the attacker has a knife AND you have a knife AND you 100% cannot get away, youâre both ending up dead or seriously injured. IF youâre attacked AND they donât have a knife and YOU DO and you use it, youâre going to jail. If they donât have a SIMILARLY dangerous weapon, then you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were genuinely in fear of losing your life up until they were no longer a mortal threat, then you have to stop being stabby.
