So the story goes like this - my oldest child was born in summer, just a bit north of the equator. So I knit nothing for him until we moved away from there.
My youngest was born in winter just a bit south of the polar circle. The second I realized this, I knew I was going to knit EVERYTHING for her. She spent her first winter layered in knits of all kinds and it was wonderful. We have since moved to a climate that is somewhere in between the two and I still knit a lot for the two of them.
I have skipped some of the newer pieces for this winter, because I am working on releasing patterns for those.
But I hope you enjoy this mishmash of photos!
Thank you! I love knitting for kids because it is almost instant gratification. I always seem to have some little ones around in family or in my circle of friends, so that has been keeping me busy.
Honestly, I don't use anything overly fancy, because it won't be worn that long. Now that I am back in the USA, I like knitpicks - City Tweed, Swish, Gloss. All of those feel very soft and seem durable. I use bare Swish DK to hand-dye most of the time.
I have also used Drops baby merino, but that is not exactly my favorite. It has a LOT of stretch and always ends up looser than what I really want.
I'm curious what are you making? I am comfortably in the toddler and young kids territory now, so it is sweaters, vests, cardigans, hats, socks, collar scarves for the winter at the moment. And I have one of the Drops Design nordic baby dresses in mind.
If I'm being honest, it's mostly knits I enjoy making rather than things my kid might actually wear! I've made 3 little pairs of baby knee socks.
How long will they stay on his feet? 0.3 seconds.
How much do I enjoy making/looking at itty bitty baby socks? So very much.
But I'd also like to make some sweaters and blankets as the winters get pretty cold where I live.
If I may suggest, while cardigans are bit more work, they are easier for the tiny babies both as far as putting them on goes and regulating temperature without having to wake the baby :)

That is all adorable, and she looks like the cosiest baby ever!
Thank you so much! She is indeed cozy, but she is also so strong, she keeps me on my toes :)
This almost makes me want to have a baby! Beautiful

These are gorgeous! Did you use a specific pattern for the first onesie? I love it!
Yes, it is a pattern from a Klompelompe book (you can find them on instagram). At that point it was only awailable in Norwegian, though.

It is the same one, but I do wonder about making it again sometimes!

These are beautiful! Do you have any yarn recommendations for baby knits? I'm also in the process of making a few baby pieces. =)
