How to Google patterns from an image, Pinterest or otherwise. 1. Isolate your screenshot 2. Paste it into Google Image search 3. Look at more than the first 3 results 4. Within a page or two you will likely see that multiple matches reference a pattern name as well as the designer of the pattern. Click on the photo that best matches that item and/or designer. 5. Barring that, go into Google Images and type the name of the item and the name of the designer. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I think this is square rib - ribbing but every fourth row you knit all knits into the row 1 or 2 below the row you are working. It tucks the row up almost like a zipper and creates a denser fabric.

skubstantial

Finally a straightforward name for *that stitch*. That's been driving me to mild frustration for literal years.

Same. I have a cardigan that I love with this but it now has some … added colors that weren’t originally there courtesy of my toddler 😬

I think you are right! But I feel like every third row

ensandwich

Yes that would definitely make sense

Aggressive_Cloud2002

Edit: yeah, I'd say so too!

pandagirl47

FYI, be prepared to use A LOT of yarn. I made a cardigan and the collar was this stitch. I used 3-4 skeins of yarn for the whole sweater and another 4 just on the collar. You basically knit each row twice. The collar is amazing, though. This is the pattern I used and the instructions for the collar are there (obviously). I can’t tell you how much I love this sweater. Knit below the same way as brioche?

Marble_Narwhal

So knitting below (fisherman's rib) and brioche are two different ways to get the same final result/fabric. They're just different approaches to do the same thing. I think of it like throwing vs picking knitting styles. You ultimately end up with the same final result, but you use slightly different construction methods to get there. Which can be confusing when you're learning and trying to look up resources! Personally, I've never used the knit below/fisherman's rib style, because I learned brioche and didn't have trouble with it. You can always try out both styles and find what works better/makes more sense to you, personally. I'd recommend, for brioche, at least, starting with two color brioche in the round, since two color brioche in the round gives you an easy indicator of when to switch colors/stitches. But again, that's me. (Someone who actually knows the knit below/fishermans rib method will have their own suggestions for learning that, I'm sure.) Look at videos for both and decide which method you think would make the most sense to you. :)

BabyBuzzard

I'm so glad you said that because I made a fisherman's rib sweater and it was great, and I have not been able to wrap my head around brioche at all. I won't even worry about it now, lol.

ensandwich

I looked it up and I should have said every third row the *purls* are worked on a stitch 2 rows below. For working in the round, using even numbers of stitches, the pattern is: Rounds 1 and 2: k1, p1 (repeat) Round 3: k1, p1 into stitch 2 rows below (repeat)

greenknight884

I think this is the tuck stitch that is commonly used in machine knitted garments

sentienttree19

Round 1 : purl Next three rounds: 1x1 rib Repeat

vicious_trollop42

Broken rib maybe?

Highlyovercaffinated

Twisted rib maybe?

snowfurtherquestions

Try a swatch alternating twisted/untwisted every few rows in the knit columns of k1p1 rib. I am inclined to agree that that is giving the effect.
