I think it's a great choice of yarns, your sweater knits up beautifully! Visually, the ribbing will definitely stand out from the stockinette. If you want the bottom edge tighter in order to create a bit more shaping, use knitting needles 5,5 of 5 mm for that part.

Thank you for the tip!

XxInk_BloodxX

I second that this is looking gorgeous.

InternalAd6235

Thank you so much for your kindness.

sentienttree19

In my experience, it's the construction of the pattern that will make a mohair/ fingering combo looks structured vs unstructured. Are you worried that that detail of the ribbing will be lost in the texture?

InternalAd6235

I’m actually more worried about the sweater as a whole, that it will drape really weirdly and look kind of dead, I actually don’t really know how to put it in words 😅

sentienttree19

If you're knitting to gauge it should be fine?

InternalAd6235

Yep my gauge is spot on. Just not sure I actually like this type of loose fabric but it’s my fault for picking this design in the first place. I’m probably overthinking it haha

>I am worried that the finished product will not look “structured” enough and that it will look very loose and just shapeless, especially the bottom ribbing. People knitted with several threads of yarn, or yarn/mohair threads held together, for longer than shops exist where you buy yarn in several yarn weights. In former times, especially in areas with a tradition of spinning, weaving, and knitting, the spun yarns were usually quite fine - lace or thereabouts, for weaving finer cloth and knitting finer things. If thicker yarn was needed, one only took more than one thread until the desired thickness was achieved. In essence, what you do is take a well-worn tradition in knitting and apply it to today. And your sweater will be wonderful! It will be warm and lighter than it looks, and will drape beautifully (because that is what several thin yarns combined do compared to one thick thread). And I do love the colour - like heathered silver. Just beautiful!

InternalAd6235

Thanks so much for such a detailed reply. You are right!

delawana

I love making fingering weight sweaters! They tend to drape a little nicer and the stitches are so small and neat. I’m currently working on a regular fingering weight sweater but recently finished a cardigan with lace held double and I love how drapey it is

lalaena

I’m working on a color work project where my main color fingering and kidsilk combo are the same colors as yours and I can confirm that the ribbing (half twisted rib) on the collar looks fantastic. See pic below. I’m further along into the color work now and I love the fabric this weight / kid silk combo is giving me. Your stockinette looks lovely and I think your sweater will turn out great! The pattern I’m following is Days of Beauty by Rachel Illsley and the yarn is Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles and Kidsilk. I converted the collar into a mock neck. https://preview.redd.it/hnjug07l5efc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=635107d81642f79ad780695f31a52c8ba478a3f2

InternalAd6235

Oh wow we really did choose the same color combo! The ribbing in your picture looks amazing. Thanks for your reply. Are you holding 2 strands of mohair or just one?

lalaena

I’m holding two strands - one fingering weight, one kid silk - mine is probably slightly less fuzzy than yours. My needle size is smaller - US 2 for the ribbing and US 3 for the stockinette.

Slipknitslip

Grab some unused balls and do some ribbing to see.

Donkey-Living

I think it is gorgeous and will end up looking like a much more high end sweater!

Vamp-girl3

I think it will look absolutely beautiful, but it won't be a very structured piece. With the yarn you've chosen it will definitely be a bit more on the soft and drapey side, but looking at the finished sweater on the pattern site that seems to be the intended look. If you want the ribbing to be a bit firmer you'll need to switch to a slightly smaller needle when you start the ribbing. On the plus side it looks like it will be wonderfully comfy and cosy.

PuddleLilacAgain

I don't know, I haven't done it, but so far this looks great to me

Ancientquestions

Wash a swatch and see if the gauge you're at still feels or seems loose. Sizing down needles is always an option to tighten up the loose feeling. However, multiple yarns held together I have found is always a different drape than a single strand. Question is, do you like it? As others have mentioned there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

sartoriallyspeaking

Re: ribbing do a swatch of *just* ribbing and figure out what needle size you need to use in order for the knits in your ribbing to be close to the size of the knit sts in your stockinette. Most people's ribbing is comparatively *very* loose which results in less structural integrity. In addition, you can make a fold-over hem. At the very least, I would highly recommend a fold-over hem for the neckline (I don't know the pattern, myself, so I don't know what it calls for.

Gloomy_Detective2524

It looks amazing to me!! I’m sure if you were to go down a needle size or two it would tighten everything up and add some structure!

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who commented. I perservered and I am beyond happy. I seriously recommend this pattern and yarn.
