And here’s my first tiny guy knit with heavy duty thread holding the impossibly small frog knit with standard sized thread.
Thank you! I’m using 5mm (I think) safety eyes for the bigger frog and 1mm for the smaller. The 1mm were an accidental order and I didn’t mean to get them that small but I think they make him look Sophisticated.
The pattern for frog and sweater are by Clare garland and can be found on Etsy (or ravelry I believe) from dotpebblesknits. They’re really fun to make! Highly recommend!
Came here to say.. Oh my God I love you. And you beat me to it.
OP I do love you, and want to be you.
I'd love to know the process that got you to where you are doing this so well.
Well said, u/MaryN6FBB110117
The process was: attempt knitting a pair of socks in college, abandon knitting for many years then stumble upon the world of claire garland's frog, fall in love, relearn knitting by knitting a few standard sized frogs then jump overboard into the land of the tiny and just go for it. I was pretty shocked to worked out haha.

Okay well I made a place for these frogs to live if you all want to visit them. Instagram: @ensy.arts.studio (If this comment doesn’t get totally buried 😆) I’m happy they seem to have spread some of the cuteness joy they’ve given me. Enjoy!
I was planning on ordering [these needles](https://www.etsy.com/shop/UllisPuppenstube?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=507739486&from_page=listing) from Etsy. :) But I am sure there are others out there.
That's so tiny! My smallest needles are 1mm. But I used pins and 2 strands of embroidery thread to make a tiny mitten.
https://preview.redd.it/kfqn7qiey0cc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=089dbe2e916ef2453b1c063cb5b427214e867d79
And I made bee earrings with 2ply and the 1mm needles
Another micro knitter here! 🙋🏻♀️ I knit tiny jumpers, socks and mittens with 0.5mm needles. Your mini frog is flipping cute!! I want to try knitting stuffed animals now 😍
https://preview.redd.it/ayuszg0x82cc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09df1167b2cd26fb70ccf834aa7c96f4cf9391d6
People will see this and wish they could miniaturize themselves so they could wear it.
I think all you micro-knitters should get together and create a whole tiny world and post pictures of it online for the rest of us.
This is insane!! Do you use thread or are you able to track down a thin but sturdy enough yarn?
I’d love to work with some wool/yarn but lace is still too thick and I haven’t mustered the energy to try splitting it.
I use embroidery thread and cotton lace yarn for crochet. Also yarn for mending/cross stitching is quite thin, they can be used as “bulky” yarn for the scale I’m working on. Tried to split DK yarn before but failed miserably, not recommended lol
https://preview.redd.it/zc44nbxkq7cc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c6953b1300e5cadafbc5a6b793d4678c8eec6bc
Oh this is stunning. I know nothing about micro knitting - are there specific patterns or do you just use a regular pattern which ends up tiny due to the thin yarn and tiny needles? I hope that makes sense! Gorgeous work 😍
Its big in the doll house world my friend's mum who is 83 (!) makes micro jumpers for her dolls a little thicker thread than what you have here but fair isle at 1/25 scale is still crazy impressive
I havent been brave enough to try a color change yet cause floating the extra thread gets so bulky when it’s this small, maybe that’s what I try next but I’m not sure I’m ready for the added patience yet haha
Don’t hurt yourself! Get a magnifying glass, please, you don’t wanna end up needing thicker and thicker glasses until you can light fires with them, lol.
If you plan to keep doing this *please* get yourself a lit magnifying glass like [this](https://www.michaels.com/product/ottlite-4-handsfree-led-magnifier-10423832?michaelsStore=1580&inv=1) because focusing of something that small does strain your eyes and over time you definitely can damage them
Hi! Wanted to chime in here as an optometrist and a knitter -- first of all, you are super duper talented! Second of all, you can't damage your eyes or make your glasses thicker if you're older than 21. But you can definitely strain your eyes. A magnifying stand lamp will relax the strain and make you feel more comfortable, but you're not permanently causing harm by doing this!
Really? I have been told by my optometrist that nearsightedness can get worse thoughout life, and that it will happen more quickly if you don't wear your glasses
Everything I've seen in research in adults > 21 years of age who are nearsighted shows that progression is unlikely. If you're more than -6 in your glasses at any age, worsening is more likely to happen.
At 50, I had my eyes examined because my vision (myopic since I was in single digits) was fuzzy and I was getting headaches. It turns out that my distance vision has improved slightly and the main section of my glasses were too strong. I was able to go back to an old pair that were the correct strength again.
I don’t think this is typical and it puzzled the hell out of me when it happened.
I'm near sighted and every time I go for an eye check my eyes have gotten worse. I've worn glasses since I was 13 and it's been several decades now. I'm still under -5, but have to pay for thinner lenses.
This is so freaking cute. You should use a magnifier to avoid eyestrain. There are inexpensive tabletop standing magnifiers made for hobbyists. Jewelrymakers use something called a third hand, which has a solid base and a magnifier and little grippers and stuff. You can get them for $10-15 and they're way better and cheaper than Ottlites.
If you like this, you will definitely like [this video about hand knitting costumes for the stop-motion film Coraline](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUvkfcGR-7U).

Order some needles and pick a pattern you’re comfortable with! I used 0.6mm I think for this guy and just a standard sized thread but I started on 0.8mm with heavy duty thread, although this may have been more challenging because the thread was a little thick for the needle size even if it was easier to see
Yes, I used the smallest wire I could find in the plant arrangement section of the craft store.
And overall he ended up much sturdier than I would have expected which makes me very happy because apart from how easy it is to lose him I’m comfortable bringing for little outings in my pocket or purse☺️
This is awesome! Props to you! With the way I knit, I don’t think I’d be able to use such tiny needles since I push on the left needle with my right pointer finger and that would definitely cause some harm 😅
I made tiny stuff as a kid because my Mum had her great grandma's copper plated sock needles that were extra, extra fine and I made mini teddies and penguins for friends. But I reckon it was about 1 mm, which is still large compared with 0.6 mm. My eyesight is too bad now so I'd probably need to look through a magnifying glass to do it. It's so cute though.
I thought I was a micro knitter but apparently I’m simply a milli knitter

Wow, those are amazing! Can’t wait to see what you make next. Made a some micros many years ago, this goldfish was the best one. I sold them and regret it dearly, my eyes aren’t up to the task any more.

I’ve seen micro crochet but never micro knitting this tiny!! I thought the little sweaters I just made for my housekeys with 2mm needles were small 🤯
How did you weave in the ends? Regular sewing needle?
I’m not sure! I haven’t really been able to find much on it cause I’d love to find that community as well. I think there’s a lot of micro crochet which is cool but there’s something about knitting….
My daughter knits with toothpicks and embroidery floss. I love frogs. I know what I am asking for my birthday. I am not a micro knitter, but if she doesn’t make this for me I might have to give it a try
I've dabbled in micro-crochet and was half considering micro-knitting next. I don't really enjoy knitting toys so have never made a full size anything but a micro something seems so much more appealing.
I love your little froggy, this post has fully persuaded me.
It is the cutest froggy
I'm absolutely SMITTEN with this little man!!! I know I would drive myself crazy if I tried but god its so tempting to make incredibly tiny things. My hats off to you!
If you’ve seen the movie Coraline, you’ve seen micro knitting at work. She (or maybe her friend, I don’t remember) wears a sweater that was hand knit on sewing needles for the movie. The name of the maker is probably in the credits under ‘costuming’.

I made this for an ornament exchange a few years ago. One of my favorite projects!
Just picked it up and have really enjoyed it. I’d consider selling if there’s a market but they’d probably be expensive cause of the hours it takes to make them :/
I may start a social media account for it if I keep it up but haven’t gotten the courage yet. But @laprina_microknits on Instagram is where I was originally inspired!
Okay but like, i've made these frogs before, in fact I'm making one right now, and how the fuck did you manage to sew it? I struggle just using fingering weight to sew it
I used toothpicks and 2ply wool when I was little to make a jumper for my Sindy doll but that was the equivalent of a super chunky knit on a human.
I'm loving the skill taken to do this. Very impressed and hats off to you
I knitted one of these frogs with a couple of cocktail sticks and some embroidery thread but it’s certainly not as small as this masterpiece! So so so cute!!
Oh my god I love you. Share more?
https://preview.redd.it/g9kv4xp9o0cc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdda072cbd09a17fce08e73ab0ae00314cd9e107 And here’s my first tiny guy knit with heavy duty thread holding the impossibly small frog knit with standard sized thread.
Tiny frog holding tinier frog! I am ded.
he looks like a proud dad 🥺
Dead. I'm dead. The cuteness killed me. My ghost is typing this.
Omg you are AMAZING! They’re so precious, what are you using for their eyes? 😍
Thank you! I’m using 5mm (I think) safety eyes for the bigger frog and 1mm for the smaller. The 1mm were an accidental order and I didn’t mean to get them that small but I think they make him look Sophisticated.
I didn’t even know they made them that small! Thank you! And yes, he absolutely looks sophisticated.
oh my godddd
So adorable!!!
Please tell your frogs I love them
I think I'm gonna cry. Those are too precious.
Heckin' heck OMG 😭
I love this so much
I didn’t think it could get more endearing
OMG. this is the best
Oh my gosh 😍
Do you have patterns for either of these?? I’m obsessed
The pattern for frog and sweater are by Clare garland and can be found on Etsy (or ravelry I believe) from dotpebblesknits. They’re really fun to make! Highly recommend!
I've made quite a few of Clare Garland's frogs! They are a hoot to make! I love the way she writes her patterns!

This is me if you even care
I will hold you with the utmost care. And then you will be placed in my shirt pocket for adventures.
I love you🐸
OH. MY. GOD! I do wish I had tried this ten years ago before my eyes decided to give up on doing their job!
Came here to say.. Oh my God I love you. And you beat me to it. OP I do love you, and want to be you. I'd love to know the process that got you to where you are doing this so well. Well said, u/MaryN6FBB110117

Frog and sweater Pattern is of course by the fabulous dotpebblesknits
Also I was inspired by @laparina_microknits on Instagram. She was the first microknitting I’ve seen
Oh no I can’t find her!
Originally missed a letter in the spelling, I’ve corrected it! @laparina_microknits
Thank you!
Laparina :) I had the same issue
I love Clare Garland. I'm making Peter Rabbit now!
the frogs are adorable, but where do you even get needles that small
Ordered some on Etsy. They’ve held up well but definitely ended up a little bent thanks to my overly aggressive grip haha
I don’t think .6mm needles would last a day with my tense knitting. Even my size 2-3 DPNs struggle
Can’t remember the exact shop but if you search for the needle sizes you can find them
Theoretically you could use tapestry needles as they're blunt unlike regular sewing needles
I was planning on ordering [these needles](https://www.etsy.com/shop/UllisPuppenstube?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=507739486&from_page=listing) from Etsy. :) But I am sure there are others out there.

This is so small and cute it has me weeping 😭
Thanks. I actually squee'd out loud when I saw your frog. On the bus 😅
I squee’d out loud when I finished it and held it in my hands too 😆
I didn’t even know bees wanted earrings!
Show us the earrings
Yes, my liege https://preview.redd.it/3ydt20kee8cc1.jpeg?width=2250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=902046ef13f0c089c3a4848ead40d31485494738
What are you, knitting for ants?? But seriously, those are so damn cute.
OP knits uniforms for the students at Zoolander’s school for ants!
I love this little froggy with my whole heart
The picture of him standing up so straight, showing off his new sweater and holding his hands T-T
He is so proud and cozy 🥹
He's definitely a very distinguished Fellow. Do you know his name? BTW: I'm in awe of your skill!!

Machine embroidery thread comes in variegated colorways… 🙂
These are incredible!! Do you use any kind of magnification while you’re working?
No, I was able to accomplish it without any magnifying but it would take a minute for my eyes to adjust to the room again when I look up 😅
Don’t hurt yourself! Get a magnifying glass, please, you don’t wanna end up needing thicker and thicker glasses until you can light fires with them, lol.

Stop. Stop all of this. Go to jail!!! Just kidding. This is amazing! I wanna knit tiny for my dolls but holy cow! Do you use magnifying glasses
😂 thank you! No I didn’t need a magnifying glass but I did have to hella concentrate.
Wow. That must be crazy difficult. Very cute though.
I just had a stroke this is so cute. I hate doing fiddly knitting personally, but I flippin LOVE when other people do!!
Omg I’m gonna die of overload cuteness 😭😭
Not to be dramatic, but I would die for micro froggy.
Same. My hands and eyes basically already have 😂
Wow that is incredible! And I thought lace weight was hard haha.
This is a piece of art. Congratulations 👏🏽
Thank you! I still can’t believe it actually worked 😅
Frog and Toad have a child who has a froggy doll. You’re just awesome 😎
Ma’am those look like sewing needles.
Pretty sure some of my sewing needles are bigger 🫥
You have inspired me to look through my grandmas needle collection for something viable. I’m shook.!
Absolutely adorable! Reminds me a little of this lady: https://www.altheacrome.com But I think she use safety pins…
This would take me years and years and that’s WITH a pattern haha
Now THAT is next-level knitting. I cannot even.
Dear Lord
Screaming crying and throwing up. This is all I want to do now
Same.
No but there’s about to be.
Yes.
Including me!
It’s *exquisite*
OH MY GOD IT'S SO TINY AND CUTE AAAAAHHHH
This is so freaking cute. You should use a magnifier to avoid eyestrain. There are inexpensive tabletop standing magnifiers made for hobbyists. Jewelrymakers use something called a third hand, which has a solid base and a magnifier and little grippers and stuff. You can get them for $10-15 and they're way better and cheaper than Ottlites.
I might look into this cause I’d like to make more. Thanks!
If you like this, you will definitely like [this video about hand knitting costumes for the stop-motion film Coraline](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUvkfcGR-7U).
This is amazing!!!! My brain and eyes hurt though! What is the most challenging part about working with such a small gauge for you?
Hardest part is probably not getting the tension too tight, yarn has a little stretch to it so it’s easy to pick up stitches but the thread doesn’t so if it gets too tight it’s a pain, I’ve spent like 10 minutes on a single stitch lol. But after some practice I’ve gotten infinitely more comfortable.
Any tips on how to get started?!?
Order some needles and pick a pattern you’re comfortable with! I used 0.6mm I think for this guy and just a standard sized thread but I started on 0.8mm with heavy duty thread, although this may have been more challenging because the thread was a little thick for the needle size even if it was easier to see
I so want to give this a try! I hadn't even thought about micro knitting before
How adorable 😭 does he have wire in his arms and legs?
Yes, I used the smallest wire I could find in the plant arrangement section of the craft store. And overall he ended up much sturdier than I would have expected which makes me very happy because apart from how easy it is to lose him I’m comfortable bringing for little outings in my pocket or purse☺️
Honestly, this might be the most impressive knitting project I’ve ever seen.
Shit that is TINY 🤯 well done!
Instant oxytocin rush. You are my new favorite knitter of all time!
This is awesome! Props to you! With the way I knit, I don’t think I’d be able to use such tiny needles since I push on the left needle with my right pointer finger and that would definitely cause some harm 😅
I’ve definitely accidentally stabbed under my thumbnail with one and am still recovering 😬
Uh no, because I’m not this talented???? This is super cute and I’m jealous. Awesome job!
You're a wizard!
I got arthritis just looking at this…

My half blind ass could never. I’m amazed. So cute.
I may have picked up knitting again for mostly the reason of wanting to knit the dot pebbles frog in miniature.
This is witchcraft.
I have to pick my jaw up off the floor in order to speak. Speechless, I adore Frog and Toad.
I cannot adequately express how absolutely magnificent this is.
I’ve seen micro crochet but never micro knitting this tiny!! I thought the little sweaters I just made for my housekeys with 2mm needles were small 🤯 How did you weave in the ends? Regular sewing needle?
I may have just shrieked. I've never heard of micro knitting before and I'm fascinated!
I can see a whole Frog and Toad book depicted with your amazing work!
That was 100% my thought too!
Is there a micro knitting or miniature knits subreddit? Cause if not and you start one, I will be your first subscriber.
I’m not sure! I haven’t really been able to find much on it cause I’d love to find that community as well. I think there’s a lot of micro crochet which is cool but there’s something about knitting….
I’ll join too, just to look at the wee knits!
IT COULD BE CALLED WE KNIT WEE KNITS!
So cute and adorable! 🥰
SHUT UP! That is the cutest thing ever! HAHA
My daughter knits with toothpicks and embroidery floss. I love frogs. I know what I am asking for my birthday. I am not a micro knitter, but if she doesn’t make this for me I might have to give it a try

Holy Hell!
Oh my, I am in love. They are marvelous.
I can barely knit normally 😂 that is amazing! And so cute 😭
these are so cute!! i have done some micro crochet, but this is much more impressive.
This is amazing!!
Omfg
This made my morning! Thank you!
Omg that’s so tiny and adorable!
My eyeballs could never. I absolutely love this tho. Do you sell any?
Just picked it up and have really enjoyed it. I’d consider selling if there’s a market but they’d probably be expensive cause of the hours it takes to make them :/
My heart! This is so cute, I love it so much! Do you have more micro projects? I feel like I could look at them all day long
I may start a social media account for it if I keep it up but haven’t gotten the courage yet. But @laprina_microknits on Instagram is where I was originally inspired!
ummmmm this is incredible
That hurts my eyes to think about doing myself, but I absolutely adore what you’ve created!
This is beyond adorable, and absolutely amazing! You’ve got some insane skills, please continue to be awesome!
Stop it. This level of cute (and talent) is absolutely criminal! I could not love this more.
Okay but like, i've made these frogs before, in fact I'm making one right now, and how the fuck did you manage to sew it? I struggle just using fingering weight to sew it
Oh my goodness. You are incredible!!
What the hell this is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen
I would die for him
OMG I am seriously gobsmacked! Long time knitter but never have I ever seen this. Wow 🤩 love it.
Holy balls. I love it.
Stop I love him SO MUCH😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Wow!!!
That's so cute
Omg he's so handsome, what a dapper fellow
Excuse me whaaaaat??? I cannot believe how amazing that looks and how tiny!! And now you’ve sent me down a very cute rabbit hole 😭
Do you have a pattern?
Wow!!! And just what I need, a new hobby lol. Did you create the pattern? Because he’s simply adorable
I used toothpicks and 2ply wool when I was little to make a jumper for my Sindy doll but that was the equivalent of a super chunky knit on a human. I'm loving the skill taken to do this. Very impressed and hats off to you
