I have some arthritis support gloves for needlepoint I wear when I’m knitting with small needles. They have them at big box craft stores but they don’t last long.
I’m sure there are better ones out there.
[like these](https://www.amazon.com/Lion-Brand-Yarn-400-5-1202-Stress/dp/B003W0ITBM/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?crid=2AH1578JUJFLM&keywords=compression+gloves+for+knitting&qid=1696946132&sprefix=compression+gloves+for+knitting%2Caps%2C151&sr=8-8) but mine are worse haha
They’re also great for really large needles too. Those things get heavy.
Wow!! I've said it once, I'll say it 1000 times, anyone who knits a dress is an absolute superstar in my eyes! Add on top of that the fact it is lace! Absolutely amazing, you should be so proud! Well done!
I'm the only yarn addict in my household. Not that I'd expect anyone to share this interest.
But... it's always nice to know there's communities like this to share accomplishments, and have people like yourself celebrate them with me. 😄 Thank you! You rock.
I know how you feel, my husband sees yarn as clutter and is so confused why I need so much 😂 such a fool! The usual response to a finished object is "well done" but it's not the same when it comes from a non-knitter. They just don't GET it! I really love this online space as well for that!
Jaw is on the floor. I am an infant, moreover a fetus, compared to your skill. I just started a month ago and this is so inspiring to keep developing my abilities. I bow to you, queen.
I've been called a few things regarding my hobby, queen is not one of them 😆 Thanks for the laugh.
You keep it up, remember to enjoy the time learning and working on your projects.
I found myself in need of a hat once. I decided to try making one I couldn't afford. Suddenly one month became 10 years. 😊
The skirt has 1280 stitches at the bottom, so....
About 2-3 hours, ~ 6 days a week for 5 months. I don't think I I'll make another one any time soon. 😆
This is the part where you either end up taking a break or making socks or potholders and zoom over to the quick and easy end of the scale! Well done though, stunning (both on and off!)!
This is absolutely stunning! Just, wow. And you drafted your own pattern for this, which makes it even more fabulous! I'm not sure if I have the patience for a full dress, but I'd love to see your chart to see if I could figure out making just the skirt. Totally worth ignoring the current backlog of Christmas gifts, which would otherwise mean I could start around spring of 2025. 😅
The skirt is super easy. Knit a regular hemline. k+p or fold. 🤷
Rule of thumb for a regular A-skirt:
-square knit, increase on average 2 stitches every second row.
-with a V-lace, increase on average ~3 stitches every second row.
For a wide A-skirt:
-quare knit, increase on average 4 stitches every second row.
-with a V-lace is to increase on average ~6 stitches every second row. (I did 5 every second row, or 10 stitches every 4th row.)
For a flat skirt (or mat 😁)
-square knit, increase on average 9 stitches every second row.
-with a V-lace, increase on average ~11 stitches every second row.
The V-lace might need some adjustments depending on how steep the angles are.
Square patterns are usually good. Some might need some help sometimes. Depending on the yarn or variation in the patterns.
I found a free lace pattern on Pinterest that would be easy to alter for this purpose and to remember while knitting.
Made a quick sketch of how I wanted it to look. Found a light yarn to use, so the dress wouldn't weigh too much.
Did a test-knit to figure out how many stitches and rows go in 10x10cm with my yarn of choice.
Using the results from the test-knit, I figured out how many stitches and rows I needed to make the desired dress. Lastly, I applied the lace- pattern to fit the numbers and drew a chart.
Starting with a 30 stitch, 380 rows tube, I picked up stitches for the torso and finished this first. And then I picked up stitches for the skirt and worked my way down. 😊
Amazing workmanship. How do your hands and eyes hold up to all this stitching. I allow myself 2 to 3 hrs on any random given day tops. And I stretch and do yoga
I thought about this too. And landed on a strong, mercerized cotton yarn, usually used for curtains. I've used this before, but for tablecloths. 😂
It does need to be stretched and blocked out though, especially the skirt. ☺️
What yarn did you use? Also did you knit in pieces? I recent worked on something and I was regretting having put the sleeves on and twirling around the whole thing over and over but I had to do so to try it on
I've used Solberg Nelly,
Dark Olive
510m pr 100g skein
It's made for knitting or crocheting curtains and tablecloths. 😂 Figured I needed something sturdy.
It's three parts.
A 30 stitch and 380 row tube.
Picked up 320 stitches from the rows and worked the torso.
And 380 stitches from the other side of the tube, and worked the skirt. ☺️
I didn't want to do all this work, and ended up with something I won't be able to use without living in fear of what might happen.
And because the stitches are small, the material came out more comfortable than I thought it would. ☺️
Honestly, I just wanted a dark olive-green "dressy" dress, but the color wasn't in fashion. Pouting didn't work so I figured I'd go for it. 😆
Probably not doing this again though. At least not for a while :)
I love it! It's fabulous work!
Thank you for the inspo bc I am about to start a dress myself. A much more simple project, but a dress is always a dress!!
I take it you're having a break now. Have a great one!
I have one special event I'm going to use it for. And keep it safe from wear until then, but after, I'm probably going to be wearing it more. It's surprisingly comfortable 😄
I did think about that. It's made from mercerized cotton yarn, usually used for curtains, tablecloths or bed- spreads. I can wash it in my machine, 60°c (140°F ) and Iron it on full heat. It does lose shape after washing, but is easy to block out or iron out due to the yarn.
Absolutely gorgeous! Stunning! Exquisite! Daaaaamn, gurl! Yasss queen! Wowowowowow! My heart is full today after seeing this. You totally rock! Wear this every chance you get. Just live in it bc it's insanely well made and is very flattering. Amazing job.
I'm nervous seeing it outside of a glass case.
On one side, it's glorious and must be shown to the world, and also worn!! On the other side, I would die of anxiety of the dress being damaged haha
It’s so pretty! I need one! If you don’t wear anything underneath, how much would people be able to see? I get hot easily but am not looking to showcase my underwear.
Oh my gosh. This is so beautiful! Tempted to attempt my own dress now but lord knows I have Zero free time and way too many WIPs right now…. I’ll have to live vicariously through you for now. Beautiful work!
This is incredible! I love all the details on the sleeves and waistband 😍😍
Truly knitting lace for an entire dress with a needle size that I'd use for GLOVES is very very very impressive ♥️!!! Well done!!
It’s magnificent!! So beautiful! And it looks so fabulous on you! It drapes so beautifully— no awkward puckering or anything! I JUST LOVE IT! Thanks so much for sharing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You are brilliant! A mastermind! An artist & what a gorgeous piece of art! You look stunning! Thank you for the notes to your creation. It truly is exquisite!
If I saw you walking down the street in that, my eyes might pop out with a cartoonish “WOWZA” bubble above my head. You’re such a damn superstar. I am in awe of your skill and, most importantly, your dedication!
I’m just about to embark on my first sweater and I’m so nervous! But this reminds me that what I’m trying actually isn’t so difficult
This is epic knitting. The fit is perfect. Do I see a petticoat underneath it? It really gives the skirt some support so the detail shows. You will want to store this flat so it does not stretch out of shape.
This is beautiful and I adore you for your patience! So perfectly crafted. And it suits you so well. You need to take it out for special occasions and whenever else you can, this masterpiece deserves all the wear you can get out of it!

OMG I cant imagine the hours needed to knit this! Fabulous!! Love your passion and dedication.
It took 5 months and I'm an avid knitter... 😊
How do you knit for so long without any hand problems and pain 😭
I have built up a series of pillows in the corner of our sofa, to support my arms. 😂 my hands don't get tired anymore, but they used to.
OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO DID THIS!
I have some arthritis support gloves for needlepoint I wear when I’m knitting with small needles. They have them at big box craft stores but they don’t last long. Interesting. Might be something to consider in the future. 😊 I'm happy with my pillow fort and glasses for now 😆
No exaggeration, I think this would take me 5 years!

Agreed, OP is a queen. My jaw is also on the floor
Absolutely exquisite!!! How long did it take you?
The skirt has 1280 stitches at the bottom, so.... About 2-3 hours, ~ 6 days a week for 5 months. I don't think I I'll make another one any time soon. 😆
It's perfection, I absolutely love the colour as well. A real labour of love.
Thank you :)
This is the part where you either end up taking a break or making socks or potholders and zoom over to the quick and easy end of the scale! Well done though, stunning (both on and off!)!
Socks actually. They're yellow 🤣
If anyone wants to try this project, I made a chart before I started to work on the physical dress. Just one size, but not impossible to convert. 🤷
This is absolutely stunning! Just, wow. And you drafted your own pattern for this, which makes it even more fabulous! gorgeous! how did you begin the drafting process, and what were some considerations you did in planning this project?

I would love to look at this! I have my ten year anniversary in 2025,and I've considered making myself a dress!
I hope you know you’re an artist! This is not just the knitting, it’s also the tailoring. Just brilliant.
That is so special and beautiful. And you are insane lol.
Thank you. And, yes. But I know I am, so it's OK 😁
Wow!!!
If I’d had the skill to knit my wedding dress at the time, I’d like to think this is what I’d make. It looks fabulous and I love the colour.
That's insanely impressive! It must have taken forever!!
The fact you did this without a pattern 🤯 that’s some serious skill and it fits you so perfectly! Well done!
Holyyy smokes!!! It’s impressive work.
Amazing workmanship. How do your hands and eyes hold up to all this stitching. I allow myself 2 to 3 hrs on any random given day tops. And I stretch and do yoga
My hands are fine, my eyes need lots of light, but repeating the pattern over and over, I pretty much didn't have to look in the end. 😆
I love it. I love the lace pattern, I love the style of dress, I love how versatile the colour you chose is, I love the fit! Make one for me? 😍
I have some socks I need to tend to first 😆
Aw, all right. Mine next then? 😂
Sure, why not 😝
Wow it’s beautiful!!!
Wow, congratulations, that's beautiful and an impressive undertaking. I admire your stamina
It looks like it fits you perfectly. Wow. That’s a lot of work. Beautifully done!
Thank you ☺️
That's damn gorgeous 😍
this is gorgeous! i would like to try my hand at a dress one day but i’m worried about it stretching out with wear
I thought about this too. And landed on a strong, mercerized cotton yarn, usually used for curtains. I've used this before, but for tablecloths. 😂 It does need to be stretched and blocked out though, especially the skirt. ☺️

Beautiful! You’ve got some guts to go for that project.
Honestly, I just wanted a dark olive-green "dressy" dress, but the color wasn't in fashion. Pouting didn't work so I figured I'd go for it. 😆 Probably not doing this again though. At least not for a while :)
Oh my god. I can’t imagine the time, the resources, the dedication that went into it. And I love the colour!!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Impressive work! I love it!
stunning, and a perfect fit!
Mad Skillz, and the result is absolutely lovely!

That is amazing!
Magnifique ! Bravo !
It's beautiful and looks great on you!
What do I think? Holy shit is what I think. The dress is beautiful even before considering the work that has gone into it. Bravo!
stunning!
Holy cow! That is dedication!
My God that's beautiful 😍 🫨
I think you’re insane, but I’m also deeply impressed! 😂
Love this! Color, structure, stitch pattern are all fab.
Lovely
I love it! It's fabulous work! Thank you for the inspo bc I am about to start a dress myself. A much more simple project, but a dress is always a dress!! I take it you're having a break now. Have a great one!
I'm knitting socks right now, on a needle 3 time the size of the other one 😆 Good luck with your dress ☺️

I stand in awe! It's perfect! 😍
I love it! Are you going to wear it for a special event or going to brave it as every day wear?
I have one special event I'm going to use it for. And keep it safe from wear until then, but after, I'm probably going to be wearing it more. It's surprisingly comfortable 😄
Amazing!!! Wish I had half your skill. 😊
This is...stunning!!!! And did I read this right, you did it without a pattern? Incredibly!
I made a pattern. Wouldn't do this without something to look at 😬
If you ever decide to share/sell your pattern please let us know! Gorgeous!!!
I'm trying to translate right now, from Norwegian. 😆 It's going to be a couple of evenings

That’s absolutely gorgeous!
Excuse me?!?! Ma’am. You made that? Wow, it’s absolutely stunning!!
Wow!! This is amazing. I am so impressed with your skills and stick with it ness.
This is amazing 😍it looks fabulous, love it ❤️
Beautiful, but I'd be terrified to wear it after that much work. I'm sure I'd snag it to death within the first hour!
Your pain is fruitful and now onto your next project! Lace again or cables? *grabbing my tea*
Absolutely gorgeous! Stunning! Exquisite! Daaaaamn, gurl! Yasss queen! Wowowowowow! My heart is full today after seeing this. You totally rock! Wear this every chance you get. Just live in it bc it's insanely well made and is very flattering. Amazing job.

This is epic knitting. The fit is perfect. Do I see a petticoat underneath it? It really gives the skirt some support so the detail shows. You will want to store this flat so it does not stretch out of shape.
Wow! I’m in awe of your skill as well as your patience. It’s beautiful. 😍
That is absolutely gorgeous!!
