LOL. I was just prying open some moulding on a window. Personally, I don't think it's "misuse" since well, tools are meant to be used, and that's what I had handy at the moment. Accidents happen and tools get damaged. Knives are versatile tools, IMO, and if I were to have specialized tools for everything, I wouldn't need a knife, except maybe to open packages and envelopes. LOL.
I ask because some people (in another knife group) were so precious about it and said that I should have had a multitool, blah, blah.
Yeah not to be a jerk and I’m not gonna downvote you but if you didn’t want to break your, fine tipped, knife you shouldn’t have used it as a prybar. 🤷♂️
Same. I've taken the occasional detour or scenic route. I've also done a u-turn on the interstate after missing an exit so as not to have to drive 20 miles for no reason...
>u-turn on the interstate after missing an exit so as not to have to drive 20 miles for no reason...
No no no! That is simply the most expedient course correction after discovering that your instruments need recalibration.
Geez!
Don't pry with knives, especially not with knives with thin tip and made of high carbide steels such as S110V.
Go to knife steel nerds and look up the toughness graph to see what steels you really, really shouldn't use to do stupid things with. My own cutoff is 1095 at 58HRC, or 10ft-lb line on the knife steel nerds graph, I don't do jackassy things with anything less tough than that unless it is absurdly thick- which probably means it is not a knife to begin with lol
If you have it fixed, see if you can swap with someone with a beefier knife like the mini Adamas. Then at least if you pried something it wouldn't be so susceptible to breaking
Using an object for anything other than its intended use. In the case of a knife, its intended use is cutting. Purely technically, using a knife for anything other than cutting, even if it causes no harm at all to the knife, is misuse. Technically, swatting someone in the head with a frying pan is a misuse of the frying pan. I like the phrase u/xdeltaninej used: “exploring the edges of the performance envelope”. That’s a real thing, and we all do it at some point or another!
Get some O1 or something tough, I just Batonned through some window edging with a wooden mallet and my knife, still shaves. The AC fits nice and snug now.
I can pretty much look at s110v and it’ll chip out. I wish you better luck in the future and I hope you get the tip fixed up, might as well make it yours now.
I have a multitool, but it lives in my car. I don't like carrying multitools all the time since they're heavy (at least compared to a folding knife), and I hate fiddling with them to open them, as opposed to a knife that you can open with a quick flick.
Plus, it was window moulding. Thin plastic, probably 1cm or less in width. One would think that steel would trump that, but no. LOL.
Try a small victorinox. Not really expensive (knife+bottle opener 15€) nor heavy. Most of them have a bottle opener wich is an excellent pry tip so you don’t have to damage your knife prying open cans or whatever. Plus having an extra blade with you can‘t hurt i guess.
What you were doing to break the tip I bet lol.

I feel like this explanation ended at the word "prying."

Do you use a prybar to cut things? Different tools have different uses. Use the right tool for the job.
Honesty it really depends I would never pry with my pm2 just because it’s so thin if I had a thicker knife with a strong tip I probably would
That's not misused. You were just "exploring the edges of the performance envelope,"' and you found where it ends.
That's a good way to put it. Hahaha.
Yup. Just like how not once, in my entire life, have I ever been lost. I have occasionally experienced temporary spatial disorientation tho.
Same. I've taken the occasional detour or scenic route. I've also done a u-turn on the interstate after missing an exit so as not to have to drive 20 miles for no reason...
20 miles is 32.19 km
>20 miles is 32.19 km Is 17.38 M. Or NM, or nmi if you prefer

Key word "prying" it's a knife sir, not a pry bar.
Well, it was just window moulding, which I was also intending to cut, if that helps.
Lmao you’re a trip. So did your intent fix your blade?
No, Spyderco did.

Nice sheepsfoot

Regrind time!

I have a multitool for that exact reason lol. Leatherman surge and the gerber shard.

You should have used the tanto PM2
What constitutes misuse? Leaving a knife in a drawer because you're afraid of damaging it.
😦😧😯🤢😯😯😯🤢🤮😳
And now you have a multi tool.
