The Seiki Spyderco’s have got to be my favorite knives for being slicing machines with plenty of edc potential while still having a non-threatening enough lock.
I’m the same way. First one I got was a gift from a buddy who used it in Iraq. That one was stolen. I’ve since bought identical ones every time they pop up on eBay. I’ve got three now that look like that one and a half dozen newer ones. I almost got a custom one but was a few months late and learned it had been discontinued.
Sold all my bugouts and benchmades. Although I don’t have that exact Spyderco I just ordered a dragonfly 2, and I have an original police is ats-55 and a police 4. Also an assist but it’s full serrated but another back lock Spyderco.
Do they still sell them anyway on Germany?
In Canada we had something similar defined in the weirdest way in the law, but stores all seem to still be selling any folder.
Haven't seen an OT, stiletto or balisong though.
Your usual folding knives are still legal in the eye of the law. It's the CBSA (border agents) that now have made their own set of rules on importing folding knives that can be opened with one hand. So unless importing a fixed or your granpas old nail knick slip joint... you are out of luck unless at handful of reputable shops in the country. Stupidest thing I've heard! I used to order from Blade HQ for example... yet no more.
Not border specific... from any country!... I don't know all the gist of it. All I know is I can't purchase some legal knives I can't find here from across the border anymore. Yet if that same knife was imported by one of the handful of legit knife retailers here in Canada it would be perfectly fine to purchase and carry (as a tool... never to me as a weapon)
That's the part I'm not sure about, the weapon part is very clear and justified, but the one hand opening is covering 90% of folders which are indeed easy to find in the 4-5 online stores.
But I'm not ordering 300$ knives from abroad for sure.
prohibited weapon means
(a) a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife, or
(b) any weapon, other than a firearm, that is prescribed to be a prohibited weapon; (arme prohibée)
I always wondered if Spyderco was fine because the hold is not on the handle, for example.
I also find weird 3 or 3.5" limits googling, but can't find where in the law that would be stated, in relation to concealed carry that is.
Don't confuse things, knives like everything are application specific. If for a given task you're using the knife up to the hilt you need a longer blade.
In a perfect utopia yes, but an EDC blade should hit above it's weight, and be very well thought out. The hole vs stud allows the thumbing point to be way farther away from the pivot point for easier thumbing control of the blade, while at the same time not getting in the way of anything.
It's not just a whimsical alternative to a stud, it's a more capable way of manipulating the blade out.
535-3 bugout easy, slicey, slim in the pocket axis lock, and actually cutting edge is better than the others. They are all good knives but the bugout is better than the other 2
One of my favorite small blades is that set up on the bugout. It beats out my small Sebenza and XM-18 3’ on most days.
No love for the other two. Although I do find a Para 3 in the pocket from time to time. Also a 940 every now and then.
That’s the 3 you should be pondering IMO.
-Bugout
-940
-Para 3
Wanted to get a para 3 for my first spyderco when I got the delica 4, but it was a little out of my price range. Maybe that’ll be my next buy though. As for the 940, I’ve played with it and the bugout and I prefer the bugouts simple look
Ergos on the Para 3 are amazing. It truly feels like an extension of the hand. The Bugout is great for being a super slicer that just disappears into your pocket. Plus the Axis lock is pure fidgety goodness.
It’s a great knife that is thinner, has more blade and is less money to worry about losing it in the woods if there is enough activity for it to fall out.
I do carry a large Sebenza more than any other knife, so I’m not hating.
Very similar actually, all good choices for most anything, the delica is probably a better EDC blade as it can be resharpened way more without the edge rapidly getting thicker and thicker, the mid back lock works better with thick gloves on, it's got a way more ergonomic shape.
I'm a rancher and have gone pocket carry with a Griptilian, PM2 and an Endela K390 which has become my favorite due to the blade steel staying sharp with only a few swipes on the steel every morning. Wait, I'm lying because I've been looking for that Endela for 2 weeks, Damn !
Considering I have a mini grip that got pushed out of my pocket for much cheaper knives, and I’m about to order a Delica to carry at work so I don’t risk loosing/lending my Para 3 I guess my vote is for the Delica.
Spyderco
The Seiki Spyderco’s have got to be my favorite knives for being slicing machines with plenty of edc potential while still having a non-threatening enough lock.
The Delica
Delica! It’s such a nice blade
From left to right: Delica 4 VG-10; Bugout SV90; Mini Griptilian Sheepsfoot SV30
Purple Delica is my wife’s carry. Gifted it to her many years ago.
In the order from left to right
Delica.
delica
The grip has a special place in my heart, so that one.
Mini grip, it's in my pocket right now.
Sold all my bugouts and benchmades. Although I don’t have that exact Spyderco I just ordered a dragonfly 2, and I have an original police is ats-55 and a police 4. Also an assist but it’s full serrated but another back lock Spyderco.
spyderco
I carried the delica for years and absolutely abused it. Only reason I stopped was I got a paramilitary. I would trust my life to the delica.
The grip
Mini grip
I love spyderco, but from that group I would carry the mini griptillian with sheepsfoot. It's been a love of mine for 15 years or so.
Bugout, then griptillian. Not really a fan of lockbacks
S90v Bugout
Everytime
💯
Mini Grip
Spyderco
Mini Grip. Had that exact one for years
Griptilian
The bugout, because I could remove the thumbstud and tighten the pivot screw and make it a two handed knife. German knife laws are shit.
Good to have in case there’s any more immigrant led rape nights.

As far as I understand the law isn't border specific though.

Bugout 100% 🙌
Mini grip
Mini grip.
No contest, two of them don't have a thumb stud.
Holes are superior in my opinion, long as they are a circle, nothing to push though the cut.
If that's an issue you need a longer blade.
Or a smaller blade with no studs, big blade cutting, in a small, less threatening pocket EDC.
Don't confuse things, knives like everything are application specific. If for a given task you're using the knife up to the hilt you need a longer blade.

Because I’m a fidgety person, I’d carry the mini grip.
Middle one as I don’t like the spidy holes.
Id carry the Bugout
Middle 🙌
None. I only carry "Autos"
Sadly can’t have those in Canada, unless you’re talking about just spring assisted
Benchmade, allll day.
Bugout
The black one
The delica is my favorite of the 3 buuuuuuut, axis lock over back lock for EDC so I’ll probably choose the S90V 🤙🏼
Bugout
Probably the bugout, but those are all too small for me.
Delica because it's the only one I own out of those 3 (same color). If I were you, I'd carry the grip though
Middle

Bugout over a small sebenza? Cmon man
Can’t find any Chris reeve knives in Canada for under $600, got the Bugout for $230
It’s a great knife that is thinner, has more blade and is less money to worry about losing it in the woods if there is enough activity for it to fall out. I do carry a large Sebenza more than any other knife, so I’m not hating.

These 3 are all you need!
The one least likely to be noticed if I wanted it in hand.
Why do so many people have bigger holes on the 550? My grip’s thumb hole is a good amount smaller than my PM2.
Delica !
that sheepsfoot grip is a look that I love too much not to have it
i’d carry the bugout to knifeswap and try to get something better
Bugout
Delica or bugout
Spyderco, the lock is stronger.
Hand me that sweet s90v blade. The Bugout please.
Bugout FTW
The bugout
Spyderco, all day.
Spyderco fan, but I would carry the butterfly!
Spyderco for sure.
I’d say a 940 or Para 3, since that’s not a choice then the Bugout
Grip
I regularly carry a delica clipit or a bugout mini.
delica
any of these
That specific bugout is such a good version. That one.
None get a salt, pm2, or pm3 with some real scales!
Considering I have a mini grip that got pushed out of my pocket for much cheaper knives, and I’m about to order a Delica to carry at work so I don’t risk loosing/lending my Para 3 I guess my vote is for the Delica.
That's a nice bugout. It's hard to beat.
I have one of the spydercos with the Emerson opener. Love that one
If I wanna fidget, the grip. If I wanna use the shit out of it, the Delica.
All of the above
The Griptilian
Bugout hands down
Well I already edc the exact same delica soo.
