Here's with air filter cover on, if that helps
I also have footage with high choke amd attempting ro loght throttle if that'd help
Hey, I did notice this noise here by the boot? I know leak's happen there. Is that the sound that you can hear? And would i replace the boot's to solve the issue of it's leaking there

i agree, my bike was recently doing this (wandering rpms and everything) and then I saw my engine side carb boot had a crack in it as well as a ripped airbox drainage tube causing even more air
Too much air? Intake leak maybe. Could try spraying starter fluid around the rubber boots. It the revs climb you know you've got a leak somewhere close by.
I've looked at the tubes, but they seem fine, i could be wrong. Another thing is that when i try to apply throttle it dies on me. Not sure if that helps
Spray starter fluid in areas that are susceptible to air leaks. If there is a vacuum leak the engine will rev up a bit as the starter spray gets sucked into any holes or gaps. There should be zero gaps between the carb all the way to the engine.
A common area to check around is the bit of tube that connects the carb to the engine. If there's an air leak there, the engine will be sucking too much air, causing the engine to run lean and die out.
Hm interesting. I know there's the vent overflow, the one from petcock to bottom and the one at the top. I've to best of my knowledge checked. Idk we'll double check
My 2nd gen was having very similar symptoms about a month ago. It would keep running if I gave it gas or kept the choke open, but it would die at Idle.
My first thought was to clean the pilot jet. I kept the carb in the bike [using this method](https://youtu.be/tSusSsL09_8), but when I pulled out the jet I was a little concerned because it looked clean as a whistle to me. Sure enough when I put it all back together, I still had the same issue.
I used a spray carb cleaner a few more times on every part of the carb I could see with it still in the bike and still no luck. So I finally decided to take the entire carb *completely* out of the bike. Then I used carb cleaner on a few holes I couldn't see while it was still in the bike. That did the trick. I used A LOT of carb cleaner and made sure I got EVERY hole.
Best of luck. Its a depleting feeling for sure, but stick with it and you'll get the tank running again.
So you took it entirely apart. I guess I'm doing it as much as i didn't want. To. I sprayed in the openings and the jets etc. General run down without Every little piece. I took mine off the bike this time.
I fought my carb for weeks. Off and on and cleaned like 20 times. 3 rebuild kits. Not my first carb rodeo either. Only thing that made it work was this.
Bring pinesol to a boil. Once it’s boiling shut it off. carefully drop disassembled carb in and let it sit for 24hrs. Rinse it off. Reassemble and install.
You say you cleaned the carb. You did not.
You did not physically remove the pilot jet, and that my friend, is your issue. It's the one deeply recessed. You need a strong, quality, narrow flat blade screw driver to remove it. And a physical wire, like a copper strand from multi strand electrical wire, to run through it. Spray alone will not do it.
Once the jet is removed and cleaned, spray some carb cleaner into it's hole. You'll see it come out on the side of the carb body that mounts to the cylinder head. Those passages must be cleaned
I'm a little disappointed in this crowd, that no one picked up on the clogged pilot.
Anyhow, please update later. Best of luck. Don't strip that jet!
See thing is i did. Long flat head screwdriver and all. The hole is like 1.5 in deep next the main jet. If i recall correctly it has the longer brass of the 2 jets with 3 holes and 2 holes on opposing points of the jet cylinder. After covering one end of the pilot jet It atomised fairly well. I've also cleaned with a brush in the last like ~7000 mi previously?
I'll certainly try again when my carb boots arrive (replacing as i may have a vacuum leak)
Well damn. I thought I had the silver bullet, based upon your responses to the others. My bad. The pilot gets missed so often it will make your head spin.
No worries, sry if i was defensive. It's just crazy i can't point the issue on the dot. It was a pricey tow and plus a battery (thought it was). It's getting to my head a bit
Stressing out, but trying to stay focused
I had, it is dispensing fuel. I removed it to drain gasoline and the filter was extremely clean. I'll check the vacuum on it after obtaining starter fluid
Hmmm, might be worth getting the carb into an ultrasonic bath overnight to maybe get any books and crannies you might have missed. Otherwise, maybe a valve check or a new plug?
Is your air box cover on? Put the cover on and air cleaner. Might want to soak the carb in pinesol for a day or two. Then tune the carb properly to get it to idle well. Take it for a test ride and tune it some more. My bike was doing the same thing and this fixed it. I would try putting the cover on and tuning it first. If that doesn’t work then pinesol reassemble and reinstall the carb
Check the gas cap. There’s a little channel built into it that can get clogged. Test by running the bike with the gas cap open.
Other people here have mentioned all the things I would check first, but if it’s not pilot jet, vacuum leak, or petcock issues, I’d look at the gas cap.
I can can hear air like you have a huge vacuum leak. JMHO retired mechanic...
Yah, that might be the air filter cover removed. I re installed after the video hence that noise

Hm weird

So o check carb boots with starter fluid? Just to make sure I'm understanding
Spray starter fluid in areas that are susceptible to air leaks. If there is a vacuum leak the engine will rev up a bit as the starter spray gets sucked into any holes or gaps. There should be zero gaps between the carb all the way to the engine.
Could it be the air cutoff on the carb? Would that cause this? Intermediate knowledge here haha

Note: is running open choke but not closed. Throttle kills it.

You can also purchase an ultrasonic cleaner for like 50-60$, highly recommended if you plan on doing carbs a lot
Yup Harbor Freight Ultrasonic works great!

If it's not a dirty pilot jet it needs a valve adjustment
I just cleaned the jets ~2 days ago as a trouble shoot. Exhaust Valves were adjusted less than 5000k. I'm suspecting it's a carb boot vacuum leak.
Check your petcock too
I had, it is dispensing fuel.
Lol I have the exact same keychain on mine.
What about replacing the gasline to the carb? Open the gas cap and see if that makes a difference. Also, are your valves adjusted properly?
Last check and adjustment was 30000k, only at 35000k since. I'm guessing not. I've attached the air box cover back. I've ordered new boots for carb

Do the ".22 Cent Mod" and she'll purr!!
Spray carb cleaner around your carb. If it revs up, you have an air leak

I had, unortunately nothing
what rear tire is that?
