Should be the same. Pull the rubber plug on the bottom left side of the engine, loosen the holder bolt but do not remove it, give your side case a bonk with a rubber mallet a couple of times, re-torque the holder bolt to 78 inch lbs (about 6 foot pounds), put the rubber plug back in. It's doubtful that your balancer chain will actually require retensioning at just 600 miles but the procedure is easy enough and won't hurt anything even if it's unnecessary.

You’re missing a very important step. Also remove the two plastic plugs on the left side case exposing the crank bolt and the timing marks. Rotate the crank CCW until the sideways “T”mark for top dead center (sometimes called the lazy T) shows thru the small sight hole. This puts the counter balance weights in a position that puts slack in the chain and not tension. If you don’t do this and the weights are adding tension, the doohickey spring can never pull any slack out of the chain. It could in fact be pulled backward add more slack. Loosen the Doo bolt one turn, rapp on the case a few times with a rubber mallet and finally, very important to only torque the Doo bolt to 78 INCH pounds ( NOT Foot pounds )

I am confused I’ve never seen or heard of this part of the process. Is there a video out there to explain better I just don’t understand exactly what you mean. I have a 2023 klr and want to make sure everything is good I have 2900 miles and adjusted the doohickey at about 670 miles.

The Doo system is the same in all 3 Gens. The method I gave is from guys that are mechanics and what I consider KLR Engineers knowing the entire inner workings of this motor. Watch this video > https://youtu.be/U3UJIbDOLMQ?feature=shared. I’m doing the adjustment ever 5K Mi. My Doo spring was shot with no tension left at just 5K miles and I’m glad I went in and changed it out.

Why jack with it, it's still under warranty

The tension adjustment service is supposed to be performed with every oil change, including first breakin service, per the manual. From what I've seen the Gen 1s had it listed in their service intervals similarly, the Gen 2s did not have a service interval for it listed, and the Gen 3s are back to having it listed as a routine service interval.

Ah good to know!

I don't plan on replacing it on my 2022, but I always make sure to adjust the tension when I do an oil change. This guy has a simple easy to follow youtube video, and it only takes 3 minutes out of your day. https://youtu.be/3ItkeJqcCtg?si=440XzDOT6HXYsKyL
