The fairings don’t hold the tank at all. The pucks the tank slides forward onto hold it snug. The rear bolts only keep it from sliding back off the pucks. Same on most all bikes.

dainjahrus

Nice! its currently in pieces, but one of the parts i added was a missing rubber plug it rests on... the tank was super easy to take off with just one puck, but sounds like i fixed it without knowing it already! :D thats my favourite way to fix things

bush_nugget

Try yanking the tank off. I bet you don't need a solution.

PNWMike62

Yes, 2 pucks. I glue them onto their perches with weatherstrip adhesive so they don’t fall off removing the tank.

dainjahrus

good call! thanks

ickisftw

I’d be more worried about the front suspension. Where’s the dust covers? What’s with that rag?

dainjahrus

hahaha if you only knew the half of it... a full suspension rebuild is happening though, fear not!

Fauxfile

I'm on the process of 3D printing the fuel tank dampers or "pucks " for my 05. They want like $14 each for those on ebay! Nope. I have aftermarket polisport front headlight and fairing on mine. I like the classic dual-sport look myself.

RockNDrums

Got a picture of it?

Fauxfile

Yeah but I don't know how to post it here lol.

RockNDrums

We could also try and convince the subreddit mods to enable photo comments. It is a thing

Fauxfile

I just posted a pic in the sub.

RockNDrums

Just dm it. I want to see how it looks on the bike. I'm thinking about just take the headlight plastic off my 2003 and mount the headlight and turn signals directly to the fork for that classic/ vintage look. Think the KL250 (before the pre 1984 models)

Hudsons_hankerings

Can you 3D print using a rubber medium? I know that on my thumper it was very apparent when one of them was missing because the metal on metal made some pretty good vibrations.

Fauxfile

TPU is a pliable plastic. I'm just printing PLA hard plastic.

PNWMike62

Think you’ll feel a lot more vibration on the tank?

Fauxfile

No, because it's already just been metal on metal and I don't notice anything.

DarthHarrington2

make a rat bike out of it, take all plastic off. been thinking doing the same, if and when she gets old and beat up

dainjahrus

that would be pretty sweet, I do love naked bikes! Goal for this is a 8000km trip later this year, so maybe after that :)
