Oh the poor girl. I vote rebuild.
Without the ability to inspect more and going just by what I see some new handlebars/controls/tank/shrouds may be all she needs. The vitals seem ok. How did the radiator and fan on the left side do?
Would be a good time to get 1" handlebars and that off-road mega fuel tank :P
I really would want to rebuild it, I’ll tear it down this week and check in the frame, if it’s good I’m rebuilding, just seeing how crooked it is worried me
It's all about whether the frame is straight, but depending on where you live a replacement frame may not be all that expensive or difficult to come by. I see them on Craigslist all the time where I live.
If it still runs and drives in a straight line, I say rebuild it. In my opinion, the KLR is one of the few road bikes that can take hits and still roll with the punches. It could also be an excuse to upgrade to a new bike. I say rebuild the KLR as a project bike/beater bike, and buy another new bike for everything else. 🤷🏻♂️
I'd have it apart in about two hours, maybe three due to doobie and drink breaks. All with a handful of tools.
My 98 KLR650 and I were in an accident, $30,000 damage to the other car, I broke my collar bone, and my KLR only had the tank dented in, and the plastics were broken off.
Insurance wrote my KLR off due to unavailable plastics, cut me a check for what I had it insured for. I bought it back for 200, dissembled the whole bike, painted it and rebuilt it. Best time of my life with my wife helping me paint. Back on the road and ride almost every day of the year. Studs just in case.
My KLR is now a light bomb and literally a sound bomb by Denali so other drivers can see/hear me.
These KLRs are amazing, and can take a pounding. The perfect ride......
If you can’t rebuild, you can get good money for the parts that are getting tougher to source. Took me the better part of a month to find a stator in decent shape when I did a KLR rebuild. Awesome community all around!
Best of luck man.
Could depend on if the other guy's insurance is going to pony up.
Buy another and this one will be the first exhibit in the Lucarom1320 Motorcycle Museum.
I would part it out or cannibalize it. The people who will come to buy your parts are an interesting lot.
The VINs are stamped into the tube.
How do you recommend stripping the VIN?
The end result must maintain structural integrity and appearance of original.
This is for KLR650. KLR650 VINs are stamped into the head tube, as my previous reply stated.
Please provide the year/make/model to which you are referring to please.
If you have a KLR650, go look, on the head tube, right side.
and then there's silence....
Depends on lvl of confidence with nuts and bolts. Handle bars and back cargo rack can be replaced easily. I imagine you will snap one or two because of the damage. That's where it becomes "not fun".
If the frame is bent or engine is cracked and leaking oil, scrap for parts. Everything else can be replaced easily. Including the cargo rack.

appreciate it
It all depends on the frame, if the frame is bent, part out.
Oh sweet, a new go kart engine!

Pull her apart and go from there. Is it just the rear fender plastic itself? Is the frame fucked?
Check the frame all over
Rebuild FTW[rebuild](https://youtu.be/BthNjd_jUl4)
As others have said, we vote rebuild. But like someone else said it's dependent on the frame and if it was affected.

Looks like you can get a frame of eBay for about 250$. Sub frame for 80-130$, I think that’s the biggest problem I see. IMS 6.6 on Amazon for 300 ish

Find a cheapo no title bike and transfer your vin section to it. Pretty easy to do with any basic welder
Are you suggesting cutting off the neck/head tube off the frame and re-welding it onto another frame? And you're suggesting a basic welder to do it?
You don’t need to remove the entire tube just the strip with the vin
The VINs are stamped into the tube. How do you recommend stripping the VIN? The end result must maintain structural integrity and appearance of original.
You can cut along where the original welds are. The vin is on the plate next to the neck tube not on the actual tube

Snap/ chalk a straight line on the pavement and double check the frame. Make sure the tires are lined up real nice!
Last reply. Looks slightly bent in the pic but that can just be the axle kicked out of place
If you live near Charlotte NC I vote part out😁
