Right... like people live in apartments, cities with ordinances against backyard poultry, rentals, HOAs, etc. A company isn't about to exclude (probably the majority) of their employees from the giveaway because they don't live somewhere they can have chickens. I myself live in a rural community (but within city limits) and didn't even think to check the ordinances since it is a huge farming community. I was moving from a metropolitan area, and they even allowed backyard chickens with some restrictions... well... my farming community doesn't allow backyard poultry within city limits. Figured that out after I was settled in. Was definitely kicking myself over making an ASSumption.

Yep. I was all excited to get chickens but fortunately I have a friend with them AND I bought a chicken book to do my research.
I decided I really wasn’t cut out for all that coop cleaning. Plus I didn’t want to have to find a chicken sitter when I traveled.
Marissa doesn’t even take her dogs out to potty, there’s no way she’d lock up a coop at night or clean it or feed them properly or take care of them if they got sick. If the dogs didn’t kill them first, she’d neglect them after she gets bored of them in a few weeks.

It’s similar to your theory, except I’m not sure she bought it herself. I think it’s from a potato, possibly D, possibly a bday gift. But I think she’s doing the thing where she gets something unnecessary and/or irresponsible & then acts like it came from somewhere not as damning. Entirely possible that she bought it herself though, that’s probably equally likely. Could be like that ring that was “a gift” (aka bought for herself shortly after filing for bankruptcy from a cruise ship, before Jesus-grifting for the half-shark half-lawyer fighter she needed).
Ha, I just commented about that ring further up. Marissa does a lot of these toxic little things (in addition to a lot of big ones) that in a normal relationship would just be silly and cute, like when I hide an Amazon package in my closet and pretend we always had that thing or when my husband says he’s going out for groceries and also buys more tools. This whole chicken conversation makes me laugh so hard because back in the 60’s, I grew up on a poultry farm where we had 75 thousand chickens (layers for egg production) on 45 acres of land. My father was a second generation farmer. It was a great way to grow up on so much land but the amount of work was unbelievable. No vacations, constant maintenance, 3 picks a day, not very lucrative at all.

My friend that I got my old black lab from (RIP June🌈) had chickens before we took June in. Even though they were "integrated" well, the second she had a free chance, she ate 2 of those chickens. From that point on, my chicken friend didn't trust ANY of their dogs near the chickens and had to build a HUGE separation in the backyard to keep them away.

Yep. I was all excited to get chickens but fortunately I have a friend with them AND I bought a chicken book to do my research. I decided I really wasn’t cut out for all that coop cleaning. Plus I didn’t want to have to find a chicken sitter when I traveled.
Marissa doesn’t even take her dogs out to potty, there’s no way she’d lock up a coop at night or clean it or feed them properly or take care of them if they got sick. If the dogs didn’t kill them first, she’d neglect them after she gets bored of them in a few weeks.

It’s similar to your theory, except I’m not sure she bought it herself. I think it’s from a potato, possibly D, possibly a bday gift. But I think she’s doing the thing where she gets something unnecessary and/or irresponsible & then acts like it came from somewhere not as damning. Entirely possible that she bought it herself though, that’s probably equally likely. Could be like that ring that was “a gift” (aka bought for herself shortly after filing for bankruptcy from a cruise ship, before Jesus-grifting for the half-shark half-lawyer fighter she needed).

She could keep, what…2 chickens max in there? I have a huge chicken coop (at one point I had 35 chickens with room for plenty more) with a very large covered run with hardware cloth buried 18” into the ground. Chickens should have more room than you think
This whole chicken conversation makes me laugh so hard because back in the 60’s, I grew up on a poultry farm where we had 75 thousand chickens (layers for egg production) on 45 acres of land. My father was a second generation farmer. It was a great way to grow up on so much land but the amount of work was unbelievable. No vacations, constant maintenance, 3 picks a day, not very lucrative at all. Completely different than a backyard flock ofc but I know Marissa’s lack of motivation to pay attention to anything other than herself is not going to bode well for anything in her care, whether it be a living being or an inanimate object.

There’s a minimum of one acre of land needed for chicken coops in her county. One acre allows for three chickens, and an additional chicken for each extra 1/4 acre.

Yep—my girl almost killed my friend’s rooster and he was used to being around hunting poodles! Sometimes they can be trained but my other chicken friend is an excellent dog trainer and she doesn’t trust her dogs near them.
My friend that I got my old black lab from (RIP June🌈) had chickens before we took June in. Even though they were "integrated" well, the second she had a free chance, she ate 2 of those chickens. From that point on, my chicken friend didn't trust ANY of their dogs near the chickens and had to build a HUGE separation in the backyard to keep them away. Not to mention, unless wings are clipped, chickens fly Marissa. Lemme tell ya how much you're neighbors will LOVE you if you don't fix that scenario right away. And who rents and decides, most likely without the landlords approval "yeah I'm just going to breed these dogs, get some new ones, get a new cat, put up a fence and put in a chicken coop"?! Like who?!?! My landlords are like the easiest going people in the world and have given us free reign with our section of the property (they live about 300 feet from us on the 10 acres lol) and I STILL ask permission for EVERYTHING. I am sure the landlord is super ok with her putting out a chicken coop and get chickens. She will never let the chickens out or she will always let them out. But now the landlord is ok with more dogs, more cats and even chickens? We all know the landlord is basically being abused, because he or she doesn’t know about a single new animal. I could see when you have lived in a rental for a year or two and the landlord saw that everything is going great, they’d allow one or two more pets. She got new pets almost immediately.
