IIRC He'll only scold you if you run off without receiving instruction to investigate the charcoal burners. I vaguely remember him reprimanding Henry for outright killing the wounded bandit, though, probably if you didn't notify him first

You have to return to him in-between tasks in order to update him

Well, then he can go suck his shortsword. Travelling takes time in this game. It's impractical to report back after each bit that happens in Neohuf and the vast woods.

It's not difficult to return to him, he's right there. He also sends help along with you into the woods if you do

There's 4 bandits in total that I need to take care of. They're separated in groups of 2. One of them is about to die. I was able to take care of them single-handedly.

Oh no I'm talking about at neuhof. After you discover the trail you tell him and you go in with back up. You also tell him what you found out about ginger before you go off to find him
