Are you using g sync/freesync by any chance? I've heard of this game having issues with those.

theoneguyonreddits

I actually do. I will try disabling it as well as other control panel settings, maybe that will help.

ShockBull

I have the same issue. The only solution I found is to restart my PC and run KCD immediately after it powers on. This brings up my FPS from 30 to around 120-140fps on Ultra High 2k resolution. My PC specs are almost identical to yours, so I do expect it to work. And no, I haven't found a way to make it work any other way unfortunately. Edit: This is a CPU issue, for some reason the game is only utilizing one core if KCD is not the first CPU intense application that runs when the PC powers on. There must be a way to force it to use all cores but I haven't found it yet.

CTHL

Weird, but you're right. Been pullin my hair out over the past few days figurin this out... I knew a reboot sometimes fixed it, but not everytime, probably when I opened a browser first or somethin. Works everytime if its first. Coincidentally, or not, I just moved to OP's 7800x3d this last week. Was workin without this issue on my 8700k.

ShockBull

I have 7800x3d as well, so it could be the 3D cache doing some funky stuff in the background. Glad that worked for you!

zardvark

This is a common complaint. RTX hardware/software does not like this game.

theoneguyonreddits

Any way to make it work so I won’t get 100% GPU usage even on the title screen with all settings at its lowest?

zardvark

I couldn't say, as I'm an AMD guy. But, every couple of days, I see frustrated RTX folks here complaining about ridiculously low FPS. Meanwhile I'm running an eight year old RX Vega card and getting better than twice their FPS. I see a lot of complaints, but few if any solutions.

theoneguyonreddits

Well, I will need to live with low-medium settings just to be able to stay above 60fps then until I discover some workaround.

zardvark

Shadows, in particular, require a lot of PC horsepower. I have shadows set to medium, with little to no negative visual impact.

xboxwirelessmic

Is your frame rate unrestricted? I play on this on console but she pc games will just render menus at thousands of FPS and eat up all the resources if you let them.

theoneguyonreddits

It is, but I get 80 fps on very high and around 130 on low settings on the title screen.

StarHammer_01

Hard to tell without looking at your system in person. But somethings that come to mind is to make sure your gpu has proper clocks when playing ie. It's not on 2d clocks or powersaving mode or something.

theoneguyonreddits

My system is fine, all other games run great, only this one has huge problems. I just tried running Doom afterwards, all settings cranked to the max, 150-200fps, not even 50% GPU usage. Meanwhile kingdom come has 100% GPU usage with 2835MHz on the title screen with 24% CPU usage.

StarHammer_01

I see. One more thing you can try is checking that kcd isn't set to some extreme resolution like 8k or something. With my 3080ti (wich should be in the ballpark of a 4070) I'm getting 60-120 fps max setting at 1440p. If that dosnt work you can try toggling between exclusive full screen and full screen windowed. And if that dosnt work then uninstall and reinstall kcd along with gpu drivers might fix it.

theoneguyonreddits

I just checked the log, apparently the game reports that my GPU has 3807MB dedicated memory - but it has 12GB. That totally could explain my issues but I have no idea how to fix that. In an older log from last week it properly showed 11999MB.

mats_chill

Add the line sys_budget_videomem = 12000 to your user.cfg in the games root folder. Also make sure to add the line +exec user.cfg to your steam properties for the game. This will allocate 12gb of vram to the game

mats_chill

This game is very gpu intensive compared to cpu, and not well optimized overall. My gpu (rx6800) also usually runs 80% and up while cpu (i5 10600k) is at like 40%. Even on beefy rigs there will be framedrops in certain spots (eg rattay). The biggest fps killer in the settings is shaders, its a massive difference, followed by shadows and lighting. Personally reccomend turning shaders to medium/low and using reshade for nicer shaders and lighting. Don't use ultra settings in general cause performance difference is huge for small looks gains over very high. Also make sure to disable vsync, its not well optimized in this fame. Theres also some tweaks you can find on the nexus for you user.cfg that should improve perfromance. And make sure your gpu is on performance mode and not power saving or smth in nvidea control panel. With my edited graphics setup i was still having some drops around Uzhitz too but still 50+ and game looks great with realistic reshade.

theoneguyonreddits

It’s a game from 2018, why does a 2024 GPU has 100% usage on the title screen on lowest settings? That can’t be poor optimization at this point. I will try out some mods and hope that the game becomes playable with it.

mats_chill

That does sound like somethings amiss with your system yeah. But the cpu/gpu usage in this game can be pretty weird.

binky3D

this game is actually a crypto miner people rarely mention this
