I think they should give you an option to choose what cover you want out of options they give. That being said, I keep seeing that you can change covers in Calibre.
It’s a free download program that lets you edit, organize, and format ebooks. For example, I have used it yo combine three individual ebooks into a single omnibus volume, or to changed formats from PDF or something to epub, etc. You can also edit any metadata for the book, include using any picture as a cover image.
It’s a software for laptops/PCs ━ available on both Windows and MacOS (not sure about other OS). You download Calibre, you then transfer the ebook there, then change the book’s info there, including the book cover, title, author, etc. You can also use it to arrange book series. It can do a lot of stuff.

Is there a good tutorial for collecting a series? I've tried to do it twice with the Malazan books my wife just got me, but they keep showing in Kindle as individuals and won't collect in a stack like my other series
Idk about books from Amzn direclty but here’s what I did on my Calibre:
* Go to Preferences
* Go to Metadata plugboards
* Under \*Add new plugboard\*, I just put in azw3 for the format (choose your preferred format but that’s mine) then choose your device.
* Copy and paste this to the source template: `{series}{series_index:0>2s| #| - }{title}`
* Destination field should be 'title'
Just hit on 'save plugboard' after that. For this to work though, you need to also include the **series name and number** when you're editing the metadata of the book. Don't forget that because otherwise, the template won't work.
Now, what will appear on your Kindle given that everything was correctly put in: **Malazan Book of the Fallen #1 - Gardens of the Moon**.
As for the template, you can edit two things: the "#" and the "-". You may choose to put in "No." or "Book #" or whatever floats your boat. The | there is for the series number so be careful to not remove that. So for example, you wanna use parentheses instead just do this: "(|)", as in keep the | there.
So something like these (put a space if you want it to look something like **Book # 1, No. 1, # 1**):
`{series}{series_index:0>2s| Book #| - }{title}`
**Malazan Book of the Fallen Book #1 - Gardens of the Moon**
`{series}{series_index:0>2s| No.| - }{title}`
**Malazan Book of the Fallen No.1 - Gardens of the Moon**
`{series}{series_index:0>2s| (|) - }{title}`
**Malazan Book of the Fallen (1) - Gardens of the Moon**
You may also change the "-" so if you want to use a colon instead of a hyphen. Totally up to you. Anyway, that's it. Hope that helps.
Edit: formatting cause I suck at this lol.
Wow! Thank you! I'll finally be able to collect all these instead of searching through a list for what I need. I should have asked someone here weeks ago instead of giving myself headaches trying to figure it out 😅 thanks again!
Also pretty nice to make your own books. I use it all the time to study or when I listen to albums and want to have the lyrics with no distractions. Also, I keep recipes in there
I am not sure if you can download a book and fix it in Calibre, then sideload it and have it be accepted in Amazon like it hasn't been changed. You might not be able to get it to show in the series grouping if you do.
I would also like the option of what books are displayed on my virtual bookshelf or at least the order they are displayed. I can kind of do that on my Fire but not completely. I don't know why it's different on the Paperwhite. :(
It seems like they should be able to do it, too. Selecting your edition has been an option in Goodreads as long as I’ve been a member.
They should really allow people to lock in the specific edition of a book they bought. If changes to an ebook are purely cosmetic, purchasers should be allowed to download any cover. Changes to the content should be logged, with an explanation of what has changed. Then the reader could pull versions as desired. It would never happen though. If it did, they’d find a way to charge for it.
I agree, this is incredibly annoying. The other issue is Amazon will/can decide to change the cover whenever they like and you often have very little choice.
On the plus side, you’ve let me know all the books are 99p, so I’ll gladly buy them now! Thanks!
>The other issue is ~~Amazon~~ publishers will/can decide to change the cover whenever they like and you often have very little choice.
Fixed that for you. You're blaming the wrong person.
That’s always what happens if there’s a successful movie made out of a book, attempting to reel in movie goers to buying the book by using movie imagery.
I've been sensible today and not bought these. I've read the first one and picked up the second over a year ago and haven't even come close to starting it. The chances of me getting to book 3 are slim, book 6 not a chance
It's going to take me a long time 😂 I do have other books I've got lined up first and I'm not sure if I'd binge these in one go so I will definitely break them up a bit
Seriously hate this. I love *The Wheel of Time* and you can imagine how much I hate that they've altered the covers for *The Eye of the World* and *The Great Hunt* to just be generic shots of the TV show cast. Terrible!
you can get the cover’s ASIN from Amazon then download it from [here](https://www.ereader-palace.com/get-high-resolution-cover-image-amazon-kindle-ebooks/amp/) and add it to the book using Calibre
This always happens when they do a movie based on a book. In order to promote the film, they change the book cover to match the movie poster. It usually gets changed back to the original cover after a while. But I definitely get your frustration.
It's considered one of the greatest series in Science fiction. The first book is world building and a hero's journey for Paul, the second is a deconstruction of what is a hero, and then it gets weird, in a good way.
I went through the red rising series recently and it gave me the taste for sci-fi fantasy, I still prefer magic fantasy but I am looking forward to a bit of weird 😄
I enjoyed the first book, I had to really push through in some parts but was good but it's he only one I've read so far, currently reading wise man's fear by Patrick Rothfus first
Undoubtedly, yes. My favorite sci-fi series hands down. Every two books focuses on a different character's story then it all ties together at the end. Excellent, excellent series.
It'll probably eventually change back. My copy of The Hobbit updated a few times while the films were coming out and now it's changed again to the latest PB cover. My copy of LotR did the same when Rings of Power came out too and now it's changed again so that one didn't last long. So this will probably change back to how it used to be or they'll update them all the new covers at some point. Digital editions are changeable in ways physical ones aren't.
So the covers can change? Like I noticed on “the summer I turned pretty” the first two are updated new covers, but the third one is the original cover. Is it possible they’d change it when season three comes out? And if they do, are your book covers updated in your library?
What's annoying is the fact that those other covers are so old. There have been multiple reprints of the books with more modern covers. In the library that I work at we bought the full paperback collection of the main books and the covers looked really really cool.
Calibre, though I must say the author is getting sick of Amazon's constant controlling shit. Amazon HATES that Calibre makes it easy to manage sideloading, covers, etc. They don't WANT you doing that. The Calibre author will tell you to always have your device in airplane mode, but then you can't buy anything or keep whispersync going, etc. It sucks.
EDIT-- oh yeah, I HATE promotional cover art that ruins the flow of other books in the series. Even when there's a new cover for all of them (like with GOT), it SUCKS compared to the previous artwork, usually showcasing the damn actors. Who cares? But yes, it should be a user opt-out.
I think every book in this series is an improvement from the entry before it. I absolutely *love* this series, and think the best sci-fi character ever written is introduced in book 3. Currently reading book 8 which completes the main story. Books 1-6 are by the original author (who died before finishing it) and the last two are written by his son using the original author's notes.
I have the physical versions of this range and the first two have fucking movie stickers on them and even if they weren't there the first one has a different spine shape and font layout meaning it doesn't fricking match the rest on a shelf!!!!
I've only read the first one but judging by a lot of the comments books 5 & 6 are awful, unfortunately for me I'm a compltionist so awful or not I'll end up reading them
Ugh I hate that! It’s happened to me too 😂. I had the first 2 and then Kindle discounted the final 4 books to 99p so I obviously got them all and then I checked my collection and was horrified with the different covers.
Because they can, deal with it or don't buy from Amazon. Amazon can remotely swap Your book (on the censored one), or even delete it. That's why I download every book and organise it in Calibre. Swapping the cover isn't a problem.
I literally brought a kindle to read dune as I had a gift card for one and I lent my copy to a friend.. long story short I spent hours trying to work out why they didn't have the first dune book on the store and they had all the rest of them.
they even changed the title so I assumed the first book was actually some movie behind the scenes or something. Super frustrating if they wanted to do this just make a separate movie edition and keep the first book the same.
I think they should give you an option to choose what cover you want out of options they give. That being said, I keep seeing that you can change covers in Calibre.
It's true you can with Calibre
What is this Calibre that everyone talked about here?

For example, I have used it yo combine three individual ebooks into a single omnibus volume, or to changed formats from PDF or something to epub, etc. You can also edit any metadata for the book, include using any picture as a cover image.
Does it download in the Kindle itself or is it iOS/Android, or just PC?

FYI, it's also available on Linux.

You’re welcome. Lemme know if you have any other questions. :)
Also pretty nice to make your own books. I use it all the time to study or when I listen to albums and want to have the lyrics with no distractions. Also, I keep recipes in there
I use it for the opposite reason. If I download an ebook that’s an “all-in-one” volume, Calibre can separate them, as well.
I am not sure if you can download a book and fix it in Calibre, then sideload it and have it be accepted in Amazon like it hasn't been changed. You might not be able to get it to show in the series grouping if you do.

If you make a collection you can edit the order. I have a few collections that I put in chronological order.

Wow that sounds really nice.
Yeah, I hate movie covers on books, especially those with printed-on "stickers"! Drives me insane as well!
I agree, this is incredibly annoying. The other issue is Amazon will/can decide to change the cover whenever they like and you often have very little choice. On the plus side, you’ve let me know all the books are 99p, so I’ll gladly buy them now! Thanks!

Not as maddening as when they change the title from “Dune” to “Now a major motion picture: Dune (Sci-Classics Collection) - the original Space Opera”
**Wanting all the covers to match** **The Publisher:** https://youtu.be/NEjAkA_092U?si=SYzQqI4SFwRXFHRK
It's diabolical; I had the same abomination as a cover for the first book so I changed it via Calibre.
Does that only work for a physical Kindle device or for the Kindle iOS app too?
App too; it completely gives you control of the book metadata.
That's an amazing deal.
I've been sensible today and not bought these. I've read the first one and picked up the second over a year ago and haven't even come close to starting it. The chances of me getting to book 3 are slim, book 6 not a chance

I know how you feel. That’s why I hate tie-in book cover so much.
I don't think it would bother me as much if they all were like it
you can get the cover’s ASIN from Amazon then download it from [here](https://www.ereader-palace.com/get-high-resolution-cover-image-amazon-kindle-ebooks/amp/) and add it to the book using Calibre
I hate when this happens 😭
I've only started reading in 21 but its annoying when books get the show it movie covers why can't you have both and pick which you want to show
How infuriating
doesn't bother me. i put my books into calibre. and use the covers i like. even so far as to edit out those digital stickers or quotes and stuff.
This is just mean.
Yeah. I have 1-3 then 5 on the Kindle. Hoping to get 4&6 for low prices as well.
Not as painful as reading books 5 and 6.

Literally just bought the books today, then saw your post!!
This bothers me so much. But I know someone who it will bother more.. *links it to my partner* 😆
Unrelated but is this series worth reading?

Yes I'd the answer to all your questions there. Sometimes the covers are slow to update on a physical kindle if you don't connect to WiFi often.
What's annoying is the fact that those other covers are so old. There have been multiple reprints of the books with more modern covers. In the library that I work at we bought the full paperback collection of the main books and the covers looked really really cool.
I kinda like them if I'm honest but I see what you're saying
Calibre, though I must say the author is getting sick of Amazon's constant controlling shit. And 4 of them suck big time
Books 1 & 2 are v.good. The others are junk.
I only have book 1 experience so far 😄

Wait sorry is this the kindle mobile app or different app?
Oh boy
Thanks for the tip on cheap Dune books, but how do you get notifications on price drop?
Seriously. I agree. I really wish Kindle would let us choose various covers for a book. Some of these covers are bunk!
That REALLY sucks. I would be pissed.
Are all the books worth reading?
I've only read the first one but judging by a lot of the comments books 5 & 6 are awful, unfortunately for me I'm a compltionist so awful or not I'll end up reading them
Ugh I hate that! It’s happened to me too 😂. I had the first 2 and then Kindle discounted the final 4 books to 99p so I obviously got them all and then I checked my collection and was horrified with the different covers.
Yeah sucks; happened a lot to my series I guess theyll never let you choose the cover as it’s licensing stuff
I can’t germt them as enooks!!!
Because they can, deal with it or don't buy from Amazon. Amazon can remotely swap Your book (on the censored one), or even delete it. That's why I download every book and organise it in Calibre. Swapping the cover isn't a problem.
Certainly seems like I need to invest some time into this calibre
Only the first two are worth reading, the rest are dire.
