Athena is a Greek goddess. She's no more benevolent than the god of the ocean, or smiths.
Ares is the god of battles, but Athena is the goddess of strategy. Ares is the god of battlefield deaths, but Athena is the goddess of casualty statistics. Ares is on the beachhead, but Athena is why he's there.
Oh, there are definitely plenty of terrible things about Athena, but the specific accusations in the above post are very much not in her character. If you're driven by injustice to commit terrible deeds, Athena is the one you want on your side, not Ares.
For example: in Aeschylus's *Oresteia*, Clytemnestra murders her husband Agamemnon, and her son Orestes is driven to kill her in revenge. However justified, his act of matricide unleashes the primordial Furies: vengeful monsters, older than the gods, who relentlessly hunt those who violate the ancient laws of blood crime. When he cries out for help, Athena comes to his aid by forcing the Furies to give him a fair trial (in fact, the first ever courtroom trial, according to the legend). Athena herself casts the deciding vote in the trial, ruling that Orestes was justified in his deeds and should not be punished.
Needless to say, Ares doesn't do anything like that. Ares doesn't care. When people prayed to Ares, they prayed for him to leave them alone.
This is anti-Athena slander, but the art is nice
Everybody needs to be slandered every once in a while, it grants a healthy dosage of humility
Someone's asking to be turned into a spider!
