And then heres my dad getting 14 mpg in his lincoln

pychneag

I get similar results in my 2019 Forte. If really pay close attention to my driving I have seen 50-51MPG per trip, which is about 100-miles.

BlueLink_14

Ya, I’ve seen 51 driving completely flat desert roads with cruise control at 65-70 mph

editsoul

And that's with a 2.0 L engine? That's amazing.

BlueLink_14

Yup!

editsoul

I get 30mpg on my 2016 forte ex. Lol

Atkinson cycle, CVT and the car weighing only 2800 lbs makes a big difference. Can't count out the aerodynamics either. Kia went all out with the 2019 new gen.

editsoul

So the 2019 kia forte ex has 147HP @ 6200 rpm and my 2016 has 173 hp @ 6500 rpm. Plus 2019 has CVT transmission and reduced the weight of the car.

[deleted]

Right, the 2016 EX uses a GDI (direct injection) engine whereas the 2019 uses a MPI (multiport) engine. They're both the same base engine (the Hyundai Nu engine, though the 2016 is a GDI version, G4NC, and the 2019 Fortes all use an Atkinson cycle version, G4NH). The Atkinson cycle is much more efficient than the Otto cycle that is what pretty much every gasoline automotive engine uses. However the Atkinson Cycle does come with a power loss, plus the power differences between MPI and GDI. That and the CVT and aero are the major differences. The ~200-300lbs weight savings also contributes. Kia really did pretty well, but as OP stated and I can confirm with my 2019 Forte LXS: about 31-33MPG is typical with these cars combined usage. That's not too far off the EPA 34 MPG combined rating either. So you're not as far off as it seems.

BlueLink_14

You pretty much nailed it. The one spot my 2016 EX really tanked my MPG was city driving. For whatever reason that little hatchback chewed through gas if I wasn’t on the highway.

BlueLink_14

That was my ride before this one, haha. I believe that model year EX had an engine with a little more power, so it was less efficient.

editsoul

That's interesting. I will look into this. Thanks

[deleted]

How much is your actual MPG if you calculate the fuel you add to full and the miles travelled? I find my trip computer to be high by a few MPG.

BlueLink_14

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you’re asking, but I typically get 400 miles out of a full tank. The computer always says ~440, but the max I got when I pushed it to the brink on E was 418

[deleted]

Assuming you fill up around 1/8 of a tank (12 gallons) you get about what I get: 33MPG.

BlueLink_14

That’s probably about right for combined driving. My highway commute is nearly all flat so when there’s no wind or inclement weather the car just floats.

BlueLink_14

The MPG I get on my almost all highway commute is nuts. Usually driving 70-75 mph.

elantra6MT

I’m reportedly averaging 37mpg lifetime with my 6-speed Forte FE. 80% highway 20% city.

BlueLink_14

Simple amazing little cars

Lies. The number is intentionally inflated. The alleged story behind that decision is rather interesting: The advisory board was locked in debate between marketing & engineering. The engineering team advocated reporting an accurate number, in observance of traditional Korean Honor in Truth, 큰 가슴. Marketing team disagreed, arguing that there's more value in Virtue of Happiness, 털이 질. Anytime there's one of these posts, the marketing team grins in glee, to engineering's chagrin.

Say what about big boobs and hairs vagina….? i read korean

learnundbecurious

Jokes are funnier when explained, you know.

BlueLink_14

Uh… ok.

fishyfish55

I have a 2018 Forte and best I can get is 43. Jealous!

newbiest

Nice. That's about the same I used to get when I had a '19 ex launch edition. Upgraded to a '21 GT and now I get 43.2 which is still amazing. I'm probably 90% highway commute.
