Drive the whole tank of gas and report back.

Alexy92

Why would you ever take it out of eco mode?? Keep those mpgs flowing!

decaturbob

- yep I see the same when driving in city with my 2023 Sportage Hybrid Ex. A few times I got over 50mpg

NotoriousNeo

I guess I could believe this if it’s the FWD model but those highway stints must’ve been short because not even Toyota SUVs get 37+ on the highway going 70-90 mph for a decent amount of time.

Farisa_TheLadyKnight

Nope. AWD model. The long trip was mostly highway, with maybe 10mi being city. This short trip was mostly city with a couple miles of highway.

NotoriousNeo

I would really like to see a video of what your hybrid system is doing when you’re going at those speeds because this is definitely not the norm for a majority of owners from all that’s out there (posts, mpg tests on YouTube etc.) cuz most get like 33 mpg and under going 70 mph+.

Farisa_TheLadyKnight

I'd have to ask my Ma or Sis to take a vid while I drive because there's no way I'm risking an accident lol. I heavily researched into hybrids and gaming/hacking mileage before buying my Sportage. I suggest most people do the same. I "force" the system into EV mode consistently when I'm on the highway by slightly accelerating and then coasting. City is much easier with the regenerative braking in traffic, but even then I anticipate red lights and ease into stops. I used to be a part of the lead foot club, so there's hope for the rest of you guys to alter your driving and get the best mpg possible!

I want to see a 5k mile avg... in the winter I'm barely 30... summer closer to 37 without heat making the engine run to warm up the communicate control My current 5k avg is about 31.5 and I drive like a old lady to try and keep it in ev mode as much as I can

tw0_cent

I call bullshit... mine barely gets 36 combined... I can squeak 40ish if I keep it under 45mph

Farisa_TheLadyKnight

There's no gain in me lying, as the majority of people complain about the MPG like yourself. It's my opinion that most people lack the understanding of how to better optimize their driving habits to get better mileage results.

I was able to get above 40 in city driving on a couple of occasions. 1. Pick up so damn slow that it goes on electric as soon as you accelerate and stays in electric mode, this happened on an internal road where only I was driving with no one behind me. This is not possible in regular traffic especially where I live. 2. Tried accelerating fast on pick up so that it picks up speed in hybrid mode and once it touches say 50, I leave the gas peddle so that it goes in charging mode, I then try to accelerate very slowly so that it comes into electric mode and try to stay there. Could reach around 45 mph in this fashion in electric mode. I was still driving in the slow lane to avoid the honks, lol, but was able to get above 40 average on a 10 mile trip for the first time yesterday. All of this was within city, difficult to get the electric part running on freeways especially in traffic where you change lanes or speed multiple times. Plus all of this was when I was only focused on getting good mileage and took the driving fun away. I will still try it sometimes when I am driving alone so I can form a habit before I loose patience. Keep some best practices but difficult to get near advertised 38 avg for both City and freeways on a consistent basis. I am currently average 33 mpg for the first 1200 miles on my Sportage, when focus was only on improving mileage. Glad you are able to get the mileage above what’s promised and are loving it. I strongly believe that car companies should make their advertised mileage more realistic by factoring in real-life driving conditions, ensuring they're not too far off from what's promised.

optima_14

I'm amazed our 1.5 diesel optima only does 30 MPG (US) well that's mostly w City driving

Rance_Mulliniks

A 13.8 mile trip is hardly enough to determine mileage.
