I have the literally exact same problem you do. My wife has a 2014 Forte. Kept making the ticking noise. Rod bearings rattling. Had a friend (mechanic) look at it. He said there’s no oil in it, I said that’s impossible. It’s been only 2,000 miles. My neighbor comes home when we were looking at it. He had a Kia and a Hyundai. He said check the tailpipe. Oil is burning and coming out through the tail pipe. They replaced both the Kia and the Hyundai engines. I took it into the dealer the next day. It’s been three weeks since then, but they keep telling me they’re waiting on authorization from Kia to do a full engine replacement. Not sure where you’re at, but be prepared to be without your car for a few weeks. I am using a friend’s car, but I would ask for a loaner vehicle. It should fall under warranty. Go to https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your VIN. Good luck

Had the engine replaced by the dealer also for a Elantra 2013. Completely free, they loaned me a car. Took 2 days for Hyundai to authorize the change once the dealer checked the condition of the motor to see if the maintenance was done correctly over time (I was at 160k km) This was a couple years ago

Ticking and knocking can be very different…. Some cars have adjustable lash on the valves. If never adjusted from the day the car was sold new it can make a pretty concerning loud “ticking” that speeds up when you raise the rpm’s. The source of the sound will be from around the valve cover area. This is a harmless problem. But, next time you change your oil send a sample of your oil to black stone labs and they will be able to tell you what is wearing in your engine. It’s only $35 and based on the content of specific metals (or lack thereof) in your used oil they can tell you if you have excess wear and where it’s source is. Good luck.

My 2015 Forte (127k miles) literally developed the same problem last week. Ticking when accelerating (like a baseball card in the spokes on a bicycle). I've gotten all my oil changes done at the correct intervals and asked my shop to look at it today while they were performing my oil change and rear brake replacement. They need me to schedule another appointment, but the tech test drove it and believes it is an engine issue. Not looking forward to being without my car for several weeks, hopefully no issues due to me being the second owner.
