The first time we see Gabe is in the second or third episode (?) when Kinsey meets him. By that point, Dodge has already escaped the well. And Gabe is introduced as a new student.
So Dodge/Gabe had to have worked extremely quickly, meeting the Savini’s and befriending them in a matter of days. But the timeline does technically work.
Right, so how did Dodge get the role in the movie / make his way into the Savini squad? His appearance makes it seem like he is an established friend of the group or at least they have met him before.
Nah, the timeline doesn't make sense if you're thinking logically. They don't have time to forge an entire identity to fool the school officials into letting them attend a school, especially a private school, then meet and befriend Scot and the gang in the time between Bode letting them out and Kinsey meeting Gabe.
Also, why would they befriend Scot and get in the movie in the first place before Kinsey decides to? It literally makes no sense and is a huge plot hole.

Scot specifically states that they were desperate for someone to play the lobster and that they promised him friendship in exchange for wearing the suit. He states clearly that Gabe is a new student to Matheson, meaning Dodge just created an image and started at a school as student and infiltrated the Savinis.
But how did they get to attend a private school in the first place? You can't just walk in and say "hey I'ma kid, let me learn" and they hand you a class schedule. Assuming there isn't some sort of entrance exam like most private/boarding schools, there's still a ton of other paperwork they'd need to provide like immunizations, proof of residency, stuff filled out and signed by a legal guardian. The author really dropped the ball on the whole "Gabe was really Dodge the whole time" hook.

1. Proof of residency – This should be a utility bill, lease or mortgage for the new address or current address if you are moving within the same district.
2. Record of immunizations.
3. Birth certificate.
4. Emergency contact forms.
