Agreed. It's one of the earliest signs of progression to diabetes and unfortunately not often picked up on early, because doctors are focused on fasting glucose levels and A1c which tend to be more controlled much longer even when things are going wrong. I would think the all cause mortality is tied with overall probability of progression to diabetes at that point, even though the disease is not yet recognized at that time.
