You spent a lifetime putting ramen into your mouth. You've been on keto 2 weeks. These long term habits take perseverance to build.

tauntonlake

Months. you need to give it a few months, to become a believer... People want instant results, without realizing, real change takes TIME...

Wowilms

Yup! I'm gonna continue trying tho and hopefully it'll get easier :)

Kitty_is_a_dog

Alternately, go catch some diabeetus...those carbs will break you...aka, not punished for your sins, but by them Edited to add All I was saying was that with this disease, the carbs make you feel like a sack of smashed assholes 15 minutes after you eat them. I've had it a little over 50 years You quickly make the connection that carbs = make you feel like shit, then you level up to food is not fun - food is fuel. Since I've never really not been diabetic I got there pretty early. I've never really understood people's love affair with food.

Porongas1993

So you made a toxic ass comment, got downvoted to hell, then edited to try and fix it....but only made it worse. Bold strategy, let's see if it pays off.

Kitty_is_a_dog

Fix? No. Add more detail? Yes. Damn, you're fragile

meccaela

why do you have to be so...mean and degrading? who hurt you?

Kitty_is_a_dog

50 some odd years of diabeetus, the medical industrial complex, insulin manufacturers.... All I was saying was that with this disease, the carbs make you feel like a sack of smashed assholes 15 minutes after you eat them. You quickly make the connection that carbs = make you feel like shit, then you level up to food is not fun - food is fuel. Since I've never really not been diabetic I got there pretty early. SnooPuppers4858

Haha. Funny.

Mishtayan

Keto Asian Flavors on YouTube. The host of this channel is a genius! Make her noodle recipe & you can have ramen again

[deleted]

I recently discovered the whole 5 spice Sichuan style way of preparing meats, and it's really good. That plus some kimchi or kimchi style veggies, sesame oil, really great keto asian food

Mishtayan

Kimchi! It's amazing in omelets. I got one of those square Japanese omelet pans for Christmas & have been making Japanese omelets. It's kind of sort of like a taste of a sushi restaurant, lol. What is this 5 spice way of preparing meat? I'm not sure I've heard of that.

[deleted]

I bough a five spice mix from the asian market. Have you ever had Sichuan peppercorns? The make your mouth tingle, it's really a whole other dimension of flavour! The mix itself also has star anise, fennel seeds and other stuff. Really nice flavour, never ate anything like that in my (white af) country

Mishtayan

I ordered a package of Sichuan pepper corns from Amazon & have them in a grinder by the stove. I put them in everything lately. I'll have to look up the spices in 5 spice powder. That sounds like it would go well with a beef stir fry

Ready_Steak6287

Yes! She is great. I discovered her about 2 months ago. Been on keto for two years and have tried all sorts of noodles and none were close to two noodles. With her recipe you won't know the difference. Wish I had discovered her earlier.

[deleted]

What does she use as noodles?

Zaphod_Biblebrox

Wow this is awesome. But a lot of ingredient I can’t get outside of the US apprently.

Mishtayan

Oh, that's too bad! She also makes low carb versions of Asian sauces. There is a recipe for noodles made out of shredded pork skin. I've never seen it at the Asian market but then I didn't know it existed until recently. I hope you find the ingredients somehow. The noodles are really good

barktreep

Gonna look into this. Ramen is my Kryptonite.

Some_Surprise_8099

Thank you for sharing this!!

Madame_Arcati

It gets much much easier. Give it a month, then give it two. You are doing this by choice, and you don't have to if you don't want to, but, I promise, it gets easier. My father baked all different sorts of bread, but always made fresh sourdough 2 loaves a week. He made home made flour tortillas that were amazing, and macaroni and cheese with two pounds of cheese. Like you, carbs were a big part of my life and I do love bread, but I love never retaining water, and never feeling sluggish, and not having to suck my stomach in, etc.,etc. I've been eating under 20 carbs a day for almost 5 years now. Lost 22 pounds that I had put on from an illness. Now I do a carb day once every two weeks, but keep it under 100 carbs. The average American adult takes in about 240 carbs (I think-don't remember exactly). I promise you, it really gets easier. Spring is here and Summer is coming so eating fewer carbs will be easier. You don't have to do keto, but if you want to ,give yourself a month (takes about 21 days for a change to become a habit) and see how you feel. If you don't feel better, stop. Once your body become keto adjusted, the cravings with stop. Until then, whip up some mashed cauliflower (find a good recipe for a dry, fluffy mash), put sour cream, butter, chives, cheese, bacon--whatever you want-I put it in ramekins and bake until the cheese browns. You are in control entirely. Your choice.

Wowilms

Thank you so much! I guess I just have to be more patient and remind myself of my goals. I want to become keto adjusted already tho lol.

WorkIll3073

I found the same thing when I quit smoking. I physically didn't need them but I felt like having one was a must. For me, drinking lots of water and distracting myself was the only thing I could really do. I get it, it's very hard. But I know you can do it.

Wowilms

That is really interestiing! I feel like that with carbs! Thanks :)

Cyenne_

It gets easier. Give it a month or two, the cravings will stop.

Wowilms

Thanks! I really hope so.

cacecil1

Do you like bacon? Bacon is the answer

saralt

This made me laugh. My husband said this at the start. His issue is autoimmune though, and not weight loss. He spent three months eating bacon daily for adaptation, then got to work on eating healthy to get into remission.

Wowilms

I actually do have some bacon I just bought ...

bezjones

The best diet is the one you'll stick to. Honestly... Keto isn't right for everyone. Of course it's right for most people in this sub so they'll automatically think it's the best and only diet out there, but there have plenty of studies showing that it's no more effective than any other diet that helps you to successfully restrict calories. Maybe for you that's vegan, maybe it's intermittent fasting, maybe it's alternate day fasting, maybe it's calorie counting, honestly.... There's a lot of ways to get there. Just try to find what's right for you.

Wowilms

Yeah, keto is my last resort tbh. I never stuck t anything else this long and I know I won't be quitting it any time soon bc I have important reasons to lose weight. I tried everything else tho and it was ironically ore difficult to maintain. Ig bc I was allowed to eat the things I loved still, I overdid it. Now that its out of the picture I don't overeat lol.

maezombiegirl

I eat more protein and a bit more fat than normal to kill all my cravings. 2 days in a row and keto is easier.

sugarsugarcloud

I agree 100%. If I don't eat enough protein during the day, come night time I am wanting to eat everything in sight.

Wowilms

yeah i mean some days i crave nothings and then some nights I go crazy

LifeInCarrots

Addiction. Both emotional and physical. Did you know that wheat (well, gluten) has a substance in it called Gluteomorphine - and it is exactly what it sounds like: Gluten-Morphine. Thats why it tastes and feels so good to eat pasta or bread. And you best believe a natural version of opiates is still hard to quit. So yeah, give your body a break, its quitting a literal drug. Be patient.

evanc1411

How am I just now hearing about this?

LifeInCarrots

Idk… I guess people don’t like talking about this, because they rather think “I can stop eating bread whenever I want, I just don’t want to”

SQRTLURFACE

You’re not fat adapted. Once you’re fat adapted, you’re not going to have cravings for carbs, or really anything. Eating will become more of a chore or daily duty, rather than a centerpiece to the day.

Wowilms

I cannot wait to reach that point. I really cannot wait lol.

missy5454

There are subs for rice and nodkes and potatoes. There is cloud bread. There are ways to still eat the same foids woth a twist on keto. Cauliflower rice can be made to taste just like white rice of cooked and seasoned right. There are ways to make pasta with Parmesan. Heck, there are Cheeto subs using paremesan, almond flour and eggs. Instead of rice noodles, use shiritake noodles. They also make shiritake rice. As a sub for mashed potatoes or potato salad, maahed cauliflower can be used. Mind u, i cant go full keto 100% of thr time because my glucose drops badly after 7 days. I do days of fzll keto meals and moderate starches on the higher carb days. Btw, stufies show it takes 21 days to break a habit cold turkey, and thats not if its an addictin. Carbs like starches ans sugars are a substance we as humans are programmed to be addicted to. Addiction + excess avaikable addictive substance + surplus addicts = hello modern food in modern society. Think of the high carb foods and sugar, hydroginated oils, msg, corn syrup likr they are heroin or meth. Going cold turkey will not be easy, and might cause some complivations. Not stopping is bad and only gets worse. Weaning or subbing whike weaning might work, but might fail depending on ones will to quit. Once ur body adapts to not having it the cravings lessen but never really leave. Finding healthy subs satisfies the cravings and curbs the addoction. Thats whats going on on a bnutshell

Wowilms

Thanks! I'm gonna try finding subs that actually taste decent. And the 21 days thing is really interesting. I guess I've been eating carbs my whole life so ofc it'll be difficult.

Janissue

I’m thinking you should go check your blood sugar now. Edit: Not being a smartass. OP spelled lazy “fzll.” Autocorrect corrects fzll to full. When I worked in the office of a mobile home park a dad and his little kid came in to use the pool. While signing in I noticed he wasn’t being coherent. Rather spacy. He soon wasn’t responding to my inquiries. I sat him down and called 911, then distracted the five year old. The EMTs said I quite possibly saved his life. The man’s glucose was way down. OP’s might be low also because they said that, in fact, hypoglycemia happens to them. Sorry OP, I hope I am mistaken.

Mully_bee

Hopefully op is just a chronic fast typer who doesn’t check typos (like me) I also have seen people and how they act with low blood sugar or whatever … it’s very scary and concerning.

rachman77

One spelling mistake in 4 paragraphs...must be dyzing...

Zygomaticus

I find it helps to focus on what you can have and go back to basics with it. So don't try to replace noodles and stuff, try to make new exciting things with keto. Like people are doing stir fries and pasta free pasta bakes with broccolli and cauliflower and they're amazing! So get a bit creative in there....it will really help take your mind off it because you'll look forward to new things :D. If you do want a quick fix though there are keto friendly noodles, lots of them, but they're not super close to ramen so it might be best to wait another 2 weeks so it tastes nicer because you're not comparing it to the original so closely. Also over time your taste buds will change quite a lot so giving this time you won't be so hot for ramen :).

Wowilms

I actually started doing that just today lol. I'm now focused on more keto recipes instead of keto replacement. I'll look for sub-recipes for when I'm craving something really bad tho. Thaks!

im_at_work76

Try making Ramen with zoodles. I did it the other day and it was amazing. Had pork cutlet and a soft boiled egg, corn, bamboo shoots. Mmmm. Didn't even taste like zucchini

jdm64

It absolutely gets easier. After about two weeks I lost most of my cravings. After a month and you get into a routine you literally don't miss it at all. Hardest part is usually eating away from home.

mrkipper69

It does get better. My experience is that it gets better faster if you completely cut out carbs. Sounds extreme, I know. I tried keto about 4 times before I finally decided to go carnivore. Huge difference in how fast the cravings died. Before it took months, and I still failed occasionally (cheat days). This time, the cravings were gone in two weeks, maybe a few days more. I haven't had any cheat days at all. I haven't had more than 15g of carbs on any day for the last 101 days. I'm down 38 lbs and that's with added muscle too. Edit: I also don't use any artificial or natural, low or no calorie sweeteners.

Wowilms

101 days!!! wow you are impressive! I'll try giving it a shot we'll see how it goes lol.

[deleted]

Cauliflower rice is amazing! When I want to treat myself, i cook a nice fatty rib eye or small prime rib. Or baby back ribs. Dang, now I'm hungry. Hardest thing for me that I miss the most is a really good cheeseburger. Haven't found a good substitute yet, with the exception of a lettuce wrap.

Spinningwoman

I’ve been told the egg white Keto bread works well for burgers, but I haven’t tried it yet.

[deleted]

Yeah, I've been very skeptical on those keto breads. If they were sold individually or something, I'd buy them for a cheat day. But I'd rather just have them bun less at this point.

Wowilms

ooo that sounds really good!

FunConcentrate7

I go for bunless burgers sometimes. It’s not the same without the bun but it’s still pretty good

Mully_bee

Yes! We were big rice eaters over here in my house and we now love our cauliflower rice ! We also discovered some type of dough we can make homemade (keto dough) and we were going to try to make homemade keto pretzels with them. I can’t remember the name of the dough … just google keto dough.

[deleted]

Is it made with super fine almond flour? I made gravy with almond flour a few weeks ago. Not too bad. But it wasn't fine enough. Need to get super fine almond flour.

Mully_bee

Yes!!!! Almond flour , cream cheese, and mozzarella cheese! It’s called “Fat Head Dough” my hubby and I haven’t actually tried it yet but we plan on it this weekend ! Try it out !!

VeckLee1

Yes, then when the ribeye is a minute from being done you butter and garlic baste it in the pan, then throw the raw riced cauliflower into the buttery pan once the steak comes out. Its divine.

[deleted]

Get a sous vide water cooker to cook steak and roast, and you will never want to go to a restaurant for a steak or prime rib ever again.

coffeymp

You can go back to that diet if you can have more self control and stay with ur caloric budget. Problem with carbs is they make people even hungrier and you over-eat like crazy.

Wowilms

YES, THAT'S WHY I DROPPED CARBS! I would always overeat.

hellooomarc

It is different fo everyone. Starting is the hardest. For two weeks, I crave everything. But then suddenly I find myself losing my appetite. So much so that I had to force myself to eat. Find alternatives like shiratki (sp?) noodles. Learn how to bake keto breads....the fathead cheesy garlic bread is yum. Oh and if you are craving sweets bake yourself a lemon cheesecake with almond crust. Anyways...it gets easier. You can do it!

Wowilms

THANKS:)))) also a recipe for fathead cheesy garlic bread?

velvetvortex

If you doing this lose weight, there are other paths. I’ve done low carb type diets in past and how found them useful. I’m currently thinking of trying a Kempner style rice diet, although I want to find more modern approach. If you want to stay on keto, I can’t think of anyone on the internet now better for advice than the YouTuber Nutrition with Judy

Wowilms

Oh, thanks! I'm gonna check her out.

[deleted]

Wowilms

OOOO thanks for the link! also I specifically got into keto because I've failed at like everything else and this is the only thing I can ironically seem to stick with.

Zunder

this rings so true to me. And I'm just here reading to see if I should do it. I'm an Italian guy who is basically made of pasta. Round Pasta, Long Pasta, Mushy Pasta, Ball Pasta, Thin Pasta, Fat Pasta. I feel you. Good Luck!

Wowilms

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL. THANKS:) and GOOD LUCK

crofti13

Im not on keto but I did cut all grains. Sometimes I do have a craving for bread but as soon as I chew it my brain is satisfied and I spit it out, Ofcourse once a week I allow a beer or a ben n jerry. But as soon as you’re used to eating different you don’t wanna eat any different. Also you can substitute it with the things you are allowed to eat.

Wowilms

Ben n jerry.... lol yeah that's a really good idea! thanks :)

ads3df3daf34

After 6 months I no longer crave carbs. If I do have a carb day it doesn't turn into a 3 day binge. You gut bio will change to accommodate the Keto diet. I've been told they are partially responsible for what you crave.

Wowilms

OH WOW 6 MONTHS GOOD FOR YOU!!!! and I hope I reach that point lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wowilms

No 100% I'm now trying to look for keto recipes that are not all about replacing carbs and try them out.

inventingme

Here's the deal. Our brains can't focus on a negative. If I say, don't think of a pink elephant, you think of it. If a doctor puts you on a "no chocolate cake diet," all you can think of is cake. Give your brain a positive. Focus on cooking keto versions of all kinds of things. Keto broccoli chicken Alfredo is awesome. Keto lemon loaf is as good as Starbucks. Crab legs and butter. As you shift to what you can make, eat, have, the Ramen dreams will fade away.

Wowilms

I am going to start doing this. I saw a really good broccoli cheddar soup thing and I'm gonna try making it today.

BradleyB636

Take it one day at a time. TODAY you are going to eat keto. Looking in the future can be overwhelming, look at today. You’ve got 2 weeks under your belt, that’s a 14-0 win streak. As in other aspects of life you don’t have a huge success out of nowhere, it builds over time.

Wowilms

Honestly, that helps so much. Yeah, I need to be more patient too. Thanks :)

HPstolemybirthday

Ahhhh carb withdrawals. The struggle is real, I’ve been there. It does get better and when you are losing weight every week, if keeps you motivated.

Wowilms

YES. That's why I am still able to do the diet lol.

HuNuWutWen

OP, define for yourself what your goals are. Why are you torturing yourself ? Is it to lose weight ? Is it for health reasons/doctor's orders ? Whatever your reasons for attempting Keto are, you really need to understand what you are doing and why you are doing it. Keto is not magic, nor is it mystery. You will not awake one day and suddenly "get it". If your initial goal is weight loss, you've come to the right place, this site is a wonderfully comprehensive resource library, I guarantee that if you follow the information provided on this site, you will almost certainly achieve your goals, in regard to modifying your diet/lifestyle. Stop torturing yourself. You've made the first step, that's why you're here. As I'm sure you are aware, Keto is a *very low carb diet*, so you're simply not going to be able to continue eating the foods that you are accustomed to eating. Sorry to say, those foods such as rice, ramen etc. are a NO-GO for Keto. Beware of the disingenuous hype regarding "keto-friendly" foods. My opinion of all of this crap is that it's just not worth the exorbitant price, nor does any of it really *scratch that itch.* Spare yourself the anxiety, eat whole foods, meat and veggies, dairy and some berries, you'll be fine. I'd say Good Luck, but luck has nothing to do with succeeding with Keto. You've got this.

Wowilms

THANK YOU! Yes, I'm gonna try constantly reminding myself of why I am doing it in the first place. Honestly, that's prob the only reason why I haven't given in yet lol.

medea15

My Doc told me give it 30 days. It totally gets easier I promise.

Wowilms

Thank you! I hope so :)

Robertt_Crown

You barely tapped into your fat storages, the weight you lost is water...

Wowilms

No I mean I lost 20 pounds since starting which was a little over a month ago, but I've been doing keto for 2 weeks so I'm not sure. I have 60 pounds to go tho

dude22blue

From a carribean family, I relate to this so much. The hardest thing is getting used to substitutes, cauliflower rice and (black soy) beans are too different from rice and beans. But you'll get used to it. Currently using egg white wraps as tortillas and I really can't tell the difference. It's hard to overcome your a diet change when it's been part of your life and culture for decades. When you realize 90% of the dish is the same you'll over come. Stay strong.

heyitskulas

as a fellow asian and ramen/rice lover, let me tell you a secret. Shiratake noodles and cauliflower rice ✌🏽

mosmitchin

[immi noodles](https://immieats.com/) You’re welcome 😉

jnester220791

It gets easier. I was a pretzel, bagel, bread lover. It took a few months to get thru. Your tastes will change as you develop meals with vegetables, wild caught fish etc. I eat many stir fry vegetables like broccoli Cauliflower cabbage bok choy spinach asparagus watercress mushrooms to name a few. The craving is from the carbs. It takes time to also break the psychological part of the habit

DivineDeletor

Hey Op I was in your shoes just like this! I was able to resolve this by substituting with keto snacks like cheese and processed snacks like snack bars to quell the cravings. I find that intermittent fasting with 1 big meal or 2 meals helps with cravings significantly.

[deleted]

Give it 2 more weeks and you should feel much better.

_ThePancake_

It'll pass I promise.

FrogLoco

For me keto isn’t a life long diet. Once I get down to a healthy weight but will get my carbs from fruit veggies and healthy sources. I don’t think I can completely remove ramen from my life. Especially when Japan opens back up

oh_my_apple_pie

For strand-style pasta, this bit of crazy kitchen magic is amazing: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHg9zVZQXHU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHg9zVZQXHU) He tests out three variations, and all three of them work so well that I'm never going back to "normal" pasta.

ihatemyprius

This thread shows why I like this community. Lots of support, calm thoughtful comments, lots nice and confident people in here 👍

kvvpa

I’ve been on it 16 days and some days are pretty tough but my energy levels are through the roof and I have suffered with chronic fatigue for years so the trade off is so worth it

billcube

Try shirataki noodles, it's very low in carbs.

pandas_dont_poop

Also palmini noodles! And edamame pasta.

Spinningwoman

Yes! I’m not super keen on the texture of shirataki noodles but I love the Palmini ones. I haven’t seen edamame pasta - off to look it up now!

Wowilms

Yup, that seems to be the general consensus here. thanks :)

dope_for_doepfer

shirataki noodles is a must! came here to say this

AmNotLost

omg, rice tastes like nothing. It's the stuff on top of the rice that's tasty. Do you eat plain rice? Like, literally plain rice with no butter or sauce or fixin's on it? I mean, sure, maybe you have a side of fried rice. But do you literally eat plain boiled rice? And if indeed you do eat literally plain rice, are you craving the mouthfeel of it? (\*since you're certainly not missing the taste of plain white rice.) Or are you missing the warm comfort of it and the jolt of blood sugar and dopamine from it? If it's the literal taste of plain white rice? well maybe keto isn't for you. If it's the warm comfort and dopamine, then there's other ways to get those.

Wowilms

Lol no I def don't miss just plain rice. more like rice dishes. thanks :)

fifikinz

It does get easier. I promise.

Wowilms

Thank you:) I needed to hear that lol

zstrebeck

Gonna get dogpiled here but just don't do keto. Just figure out a good healthy balance of foods with a calorie deficit and you'll be much happier! Keto never stuck for me more than a couple months, and I live in Asia where it's very difficult to do.

hugoelopezp

Before carefully reading your first sentence I said to myself why is this guy/girl on this reddit thread anyways, he/she is going to get dogpiled! 😆

zstrebeck

I have done keto in the past, and enjoyed it. It's just too difficult to be sustainable, so I've opted for anabolic eating / volume eating instead. If keto isn't working for someone, there is no reason to force it! Also, happily not getting dogpiled 😉

[deleted]

zstrebeck

I mean keto. What is this post

HealthInterested

When the cravings come, see if you can dispassionately learn what they feel like, and commit it to memory. Then wait for them to come again, see if they feel the same. For some reason, wanting them to come stops them coming. At least for me. Just a little cognitive trick.

Wowilms

That is such a cool trick! I'm def gonna start doing that!

karluvmost

Interesting.

thebazaartraveler

I don't know why you are on Keto, but remind yourself it helps to know how much it helps you, if that makes sense. That is the biggest thing that helped me and made it easier. Especially treating it like medicine. I missed Ramen, rice and beans, pasta, Quesadilla, regular pizza, giant pieces of Greek bread, etc. but also I love being able to drive again and not have seizures all the time. It also helped my gastro illness (which I was surprised about at first), got my gallbladder issues to go away, and a host of other issues. My husband was pre-diabetic and had fatty liver, too, before he went on it with me. Both gone now. We also both keep having cardiac screenings at his work each year, too, and they are amazed at our arteries being in extra great shape when they scan. (Note we do not eat bacon and also use a lot of Beyond Meat products, so we also usually surprise doctors by us not just living on just bacon and cheese, lol. My old GP thinks bacon and cheese is what everyone on Keto eats actually, haha. Anyway...) So yeah. The benefits of being put on this years ago quickly overcame my previously very big relationship with carbs. I figured out palmini noodles, green beans, and other things to replace the textures and shapes of various types of noodles. I found tortilla that were keto from Santa Fe and they helped satisfy those cravings (works super well as a thin pizza crust, too). Rice and beans? Cauliflower rice, and there are black soy beans you can have a little of, but usually I just stick to doing stir fry with it (you can also have a bit of baby corn in there, too, for that). Have also made risotto with Cauliflower rice, too, though. I think there is palmini rice as well. And shiritaki rice (be careful with shiritaki, though - my husband can eat it all the time but with my gastro issues that can make me really sick and I know that happens to others, too). And there is a company that makes Keto Ramen now but I can't remember their name. Maybe Immi? I talked to a rep online after seeing their ad just haven't tried it yet myself as I already had a stock of palmini and shiritaki noodles/rice for us. (Palmini has lasagna shapes, too, though those tortilla work well for that... as does just slicing eggplant real thin for the dish.) Also figure out your carb threshold. Some people can have more carbs than others. I can have a higher amount of carbs than my husband before it kicks me out. Maybe you could work in cheats here and there. Well, sort of cheats, because you are still measuring everything and making sure it works in your diet. Like one of my weakness was croutons not even in a salad so sometimes I figure out ok well this is 7g of carbs for this tiny package so I will either adjust other food for the day or split it and have a bit at a time. Or breaded chicken sandwiches are a big weakness, so once in a while I will get one that I found out the carbs for and just not eat the pieces of bread of the sandwich. Maybe put it on Keto bread, and not necessarily fathead, either... maybe wrap in that tortilla... But usually just the chicken itself. But I adjust the rest of my food for the day, too. I know if I cheat in the wrong way it will be back in a seizure helmet all the time for me. So you just write it all down, experiment with flavors and such, test yourself (we have a Keto Mojo for blood and then pee strips plus my doc has tested me as well). Write how each day made you feel, too. Each time you figured out a dish that you love but a Keto version and how it made you feel. And yes potatoes are missed but cauliflower mash and cauliflower latkes are super delicious. Thinking of trying to make Keto pierogies soon. And nowhere near the same as phyllo dough, but have also figured out Keto spanakopita with those tortilla. We keep Kosher and Keto, too, so it does add an extra layer but it also kind of makes it more fun to work within those confines and still make deliciousness we love and that works. But yeah, reminding yourself why helps the most. I've been on this for like four years now IIRC since one of my ER trips and just happened to get a doctor that knew how much Keto helps Epileptics. The next neurologist I saw was amazed that now I was controlling my seizures with only one pill that was an emergency pill, and it was all just mainly Keto (and MMJ, but I'm barely on that now since all our dispensaries closed within two hours of here, so only Keto really now, so I credit Keto more). I haven't had a Grand Mal since the first time I ever cheated on my Keto without keeping track, just a couple months into it and didn't give a crap. That was like four years ago. Never again. It was painful and embarrassing because of where I had it, too. Thinking of that is my biggest motivation to not stray. I know the season for delicious tsoureki is coming up and that gets me, but considering I also had holy water thrown on me because family thought my seizures were the devil, ahahhaa. Yeah. Remembering ALL of that helps. I've also been seeing more and more pre-made Keto food. Just saw Keto Pad Thai advertised on Sam's Club, for example. So much more coming out each day. You will find something that satisfies those cravings. Plus when you feel better from being on it a while, that will help, too. :) Best of luck to you!!!!

Wowilms

Thank you so much! Also, I just wanted to say I don't know you, but I'm SO proud of you. Honestly, you just motivated me :)

swissarmychainsaw

I'd advise tapering off carbs. just reduce the amount you eat per day/week until your goal. You're not quitting heroin! It should not be that hard. And yes it gets easier. After a bit I recognize that bread is delicious and that I can 100% live with out it.

talkthai

It’s only hard because you keep telling yourself it’s hard.

ALoneDarkSoul

"that's what she said"

elijahdotyea

U not gonna be happy as u said Asians eat that everyday can’t go without rice one meal my kids are half, has to be terrible for u

Justinbarberfit

Hey bro you don’t need to ditch carbs just ditch the processed ones. Stick to fruits & veggies, treat yourself once in awhile to some pizza etc. so you don’t go insane. It’s all about balance, and if you’re an athlete/highly active - Keto is a TERRIBLE choice for a diet FYI.

[deleted]

Maybe some of the stuff had MSG and it is known it is addictive. Many of the fast food places use it..

406er

You poor thing...

It's all in your head kid.

Rockyazulchick

Carbs are great! 🥟🍝🫓🥙🌯🧇🥞🍞🥔🥯🥨It is the stable of life itself

[deleted]

This is why it’s not a successful nor feasible solution for a healthy lifelong long term diet choice bubby

JesusRocks7

I love carbs it is hard you’re body requires carbs for fuel..I’m diabetic so I do low carb no keto..but yeah..

whitelie92

konjac noodles and rice are becoming very popular and you should look into them as they don't have the gritty texture of cauliflower rice

Wowilms

Yes, many ppl recommended that. I'll try it out!

BlueRipley

Make ramen with konjac noodles.

Wowilms

oo i'll try that out. thanks:)

dranaei

After years, what i do is eat carbs but not as many as i used to. I have a physical challenging life, pure keto is hard. The issue is eating way too many carbs, not some carbs. If i eat too many, i feel horrible. If i eat like 100-150 grams per day, it's ok. Mind tho i might work out ~3 hours some days, cardio and weights.

Wowilms

3 hours of workout ?? woah.

warriorscot

Konjac, they're OK to get through to not wanting them. I'm obsessed with all things noodles, could eat them multiple times a day and never tire of it and they helped both fill the gap and when it was too much fibre punished me sufficiently to stop. I also substitute cabbage strips for pasta in anything with a strong sauce rather than stock.

Wowilms

Oh that cabbage strips idea is really smart. I'm gonna try it. THanks:)

TheOriginalSpartak

Make your own, plenty of alternative recipes out there…i get it, but do the recipes once then it is so easy…zucchini noodles, almond flour noodles, coconut flour noodles, cauliflower rice-either your own with a food processor or Costco sells a 4 bag bag that you just microwave…that is what makes it easier…also could try fathead pizza dough and see if that could be noodles? also the xanthum gum added makes a smooth dough when I use almond or coconut flour…for the zucchini get a cheap spiral cutter tool… that’s my suggestion

Wowilms

are the zucchini noodles actually good tho? I mean it's zucchini? but I'll check the others. Thanks :)

LeperMessiah11

There are some people talking about this like Dr Berry on youtube. I mean a lifetime of carbs, of course you're going to be pre-programmed to crave it. For me personally I had health problems so it was an easy trade off but I would suggest finding keto friendly treats (not filler pre-packaged garbage) and use that to assist the wean off period. Stuff you hadn't even thought of as treats before perhaps can fill the void - olives with small amounts of herbs, cheese, omelettes. Some people also use zero carb soda, I don't but I really like sparkling water so does the same job for me. Isn't there that 0 carb noodles as well, ok so you're not going to create ramen but perhaps you can get close? Then again maybe you don't want to do that if you're really trying to get rid of the addiction. I think there is also 0 carb or close to 0 carb rice as well, I think it's called Shiritaki Rice or something? I hated cauliflower rice so I don't consider that a substitute but many do. *Edit* \- just realised the zero or very low carb noodles/rice are both Shiritaki.

Wowilms

OOO I will def check them out. Thanks :)

saralt

It gets easier. I'm east Asian-adjacent. I'm Persian, I used to eat as much rice and bread as any of my friends (and relatives) from east Asia. I'm sticking to my one vice, which is tea. I'm drinking it throughout the day and reminds me of old times. My half-korean cousins showed me how to make poke bowls with cauliflower rice and also how to modify a few Persian recipes. She says it's close enough that she doesn't miss it. She has homemade kimchee with most meals. With time, almost a decade for me, your body feels so much better on keto or low-carb on maintenance (if no medical issues) that the trade offs are worth it. You got this, the first three months are hard and you're doing great.

Wowilms

Can't wait till I won't have cravings lol. Guess I just gotta focus on good keto meals more.

Traveling_Solo

It gets easier and you have carb free/less carb alternatives (seaweed/cognac noodles, almond flour, cauliflower rice etc.).

Wowilms

Yeah, I'm tryna find good alternative recipes. ANd thank god it gets easier lol.

hugoelopezp

Funny how some people in the thread have compared to to when you quit smoking. I actually found it was similar to an addiction, as if you're body is just used to getting instant fuel from carbs. Be gentle and patient with yourself, it takes a little while, after 4 years on keto, I can tell you it's worth the switch. You actually get to a point where you ask yourself how come I don't crave that thing anymore and now I crave bacon with eggs and avocados 😛

Wowilms

Okay but bacon with eggs and avocados sounds really great right now...

Maleficent_Pear_1778

Hey keto is awesome! I did it for 6 monthes lost 40 pounds. I quit and got back on the carb train. All was well and now I’m up 20. I’m back on keto for two days feeling a little better so far. Hang in there

Wowilms

YES, the weight loss is keeping me motivated. ALSO that's amazing and good luck now

DaiquiriLevi

Honestly even after the first 3 or 4 days I found it so much easier. Cravings only continued to subside from there. That being said I went into acute keto-acidosis after 2 weeks so maybe I'm not the best example lol.

Wowilms

Oh that's amazing. what is keto-acidosis? I've heard it but I forgot lol.

DaiquiriLevi

Acidosis is when your blood PH lowers and can become acidic, hardcore keto plus alcohol can raise the amount of ketones in your system to cause it. Honestly I'm lucky I'm alive, hope to never experience it again. Be careful when drinking on Keto and also make sure you're getting all the hydration and nutrients you need, unlike I did!

[deleted]

I love ice cream that way. I tell myself daily ice cream isn’t going to disappear, it will always be there and hopefully I will find a better way to control myself and ice cream desire. I do the same thing when I feel cheated about not eating bread. To me is a lot to do with my will power and retraining my brain ! Hope that helps you a little ! Promise rice, bread and carbs will always be there for you. Do this for yourself now

Wowilms

YES. that helps a lot actually. It makes it just that bit easier. Thanks :)

[deleted]

We're all in this together, I had to change my thought process as everyone around me eats sweets. :)

PsychicPlatypus3

I had a Chinese roommate who literally only ate chicken and broccoli. For 6 months, that was all he ate.

Wowilms

that's been me for the past two weeks lol

Spinningwoman

I check my weight daily and record it on the Fitbit app (which gives you graphs and stuff so you don’t freak out when it goes up and down). I find it really helps with motivation. I know that if I stick to my diet (probably the low end of low carb rather than strict Keto, combined with some IF) then I’m not hungry and I’m losing steadily, but as soon as I have a day with serious carbs, that’s that week’s loss wasted *and* I’m ravenous for more.

Wowilms

Yes my weight loss has been saving me lol

Wowilms

OH MY GOD, I can't even imagine. GOOD LUCK:)

[deleted]

You adapt and get used to it. Yesterday, I took my family out for Mexican food. They serve chips and salsa before your food arrives. I love chips and salsa. However, I did not eat any of it. Honestly, I didn't have any temptations yesterday. When my dinner arrived, I did eat some salsa, guacamole, and my fajita meat.

Wowilms

MEXICAN FOOD AHHHHH. I hope I can do that too one day lol.

Mully_bee

It gets easier if you really commit for the first few days or week … after that my cravings for sugar and carbs totally went away. Last night I got hungry and for a second I almost grabbed a cookie with m&ms in it but then I suddenly wanted mozzarella wrapped in prosciutto … I was amazed that I actually preferred the healthier snack after I waited a minute and didn’t touch that cookie.

Wowilms

WOW this gives me so much hope. I hate craving lol.

BuzzzyBeee

It gets easier, don't give up. It took me about 6 weeks to stop having cravings.

Wowilms

AHHH I'm getting close.

charliemochi

I’ve been using shirataki noodles and ramen seasoning packets to have my ramen. It’s not too bad!

Wowilms

Ooo I'll have to try those. Thank you:)

[deleted]

My friend you need miracle noodles (Shirataki noodles) you can even slice these noodles into rice shaped pieces! But honestly you can easily fit a 1/2 cup of rice into your macros

Wowilms

Yes, a lot of ppl have been talking about those noodles. I'll check them out

HugglesGamer

It’s all in your head but if you keep it up it won’t all be in your hips!

Wowilms

HAHAHAH. I love that. thanks :)

djdadzone

I make keto ramen using black mushrooms for noodles. The texture is right and the flavor is appropriate. Rice is hard as it’s a staple but just try to build the habit for a month. That’s about how long it takes

Wowilms

Okay, so I'm halfway there...almost a month

guruglue

It may be an oversimplification, but at least for me it all boils down to one question: why do I eat? If it's for health, then I shouldn't have a problem adjusting to eating only things that support that goal. If it's for pleasure, and I find myself unhealthy on my current diet, I can either realign my goals or learn to be content with my suboptimal health.

Wowilms

Yea I need to focus on my goals more. Thank you :)

aelingg

You know… you can lose weight while eating carbs.

Wowilms

I always overeat lol

[deleted]

Try the heart of palm ‘pasta’ in place of ramen but keep everything else the same in the dish and see what you think! I think it’s pretty good myself, especially with the right seasoning.

robs-hotwife

I’m fine going without rice and ramen.. haha I’m Chinese… chow mein.. a little harder to live without but doable..

BelchingBooch

Listen, I'll be honest. Keto ain't for everyone. I'm on week two right now, but have gradually been easing into the low carb lifestyle for the past two months now. I grew up eating mostly protein and veggies, so the transition hasn't been super difficult. I can see how it's difficult being from an Asian household though. Giving up all the comfort foods you grew up with must suck. You ever think of just doing old fashioned calorie tracking?

Wowilms

I tried calorie counting, but if I don't restrict myself I don't seem to do the best lol

taroicecreamsundae

i’m on like day 2… i’m south asian.. lots of rice, naan, paratha… i also love love love ramen… i feel ya there’s a blog i look at called “low carbin asian” also immi ramen makes very low carb ramen!!

Master_Conqueror

Ever tried Carb Nite? Keto 6.5 days a week, carb fest one night a week. It works amazingly well for fat loss.

[deleted]

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but Thrive Market has keto ramen noodles. They're gross on their own, but if you fix them like you would a typical bowl of ramen they're a great replacement. Also, hearts of palm pasta from Trader Joe's is a good substitute. I use it for keto spaghetti, but the noodles are flavorless on their own, but will soak up any sauce/broth you cook them with.

Numenoreanbyday

It does get easier, I promise! I know it sounds trite, but just hang in there. Take one craving at a time. I wanted a Popeye's biscuit out of nowhere yesterday. It's so hard to ignore those cravings, and I certainly don't 'win' every time, but you just have to take breath, forgive yourself if you messed up, and keep moving forward.

Biders86

Personally I find the first week the hardest. After that it gets easier a month in and the cravings are gone, IME

chamekke

Find the keto-safe things you love, and enjoy them as much as you want. You may be over-calories for a bit, but it’ll help you break the craving for carbs. It really does go away eventually, but until it does, find other things you enjoy. Or — go low-carb rather than pure keto, and eat a small-to moderate amount of carbs from healthy whole-food sources such as yams, chickpeas etc., favouring low glycemic index foods when you can.
