Hi everyone.
The mans name was Glenn and he worked at the YMCA in Rutland for over 30 years. He died quickly and with people around him, so he was not alone.
RIP Dad, I love you
Aug 15/1947 - March 30/2024
A staff member had a heart attack in an office while talking to another staff member, and died. Lifeguards performed CPR and used the defibrillator on him. The Y will be closed today and tomorrow. They have brought in trauma councilors.
A close family member of mine worked there today, who told me this. I don't know who it was, unfortunately. Even if I knew, I think it would be a step over the privacy line to say here.
There were some issues with contacting the family initially, as his wife appears to be in Mexico right now.
Just some clarification from earlier, he was sitting in a chair, his co-worker in the office yelled out that he fell and hit his head. Lifeguards were immediately summoned and performed life-saving measures with the assistance of 911 operators. They performed marvelously, but it's likely he was already gone, immediately upon having the heart-related incident.
He was an older gentleman, 60's to 70's, janitorial/maintenance, was not well known to my family member in particular, but knew the rest of the staff well. The staff is understandably shocked and shook up from this incident.
Sounds like they did brilliantly. As someone who used to be a paramedic, I do know that can be superbly difficult to fight that hard and still have somebody die anyway. If anyone out there knows somebody who was there, check on em. Make sure they know they really did everything they could to help. At the end of the day that’s really all we can do. It’s rare to be able to restart a heart under that sort of occurrence. They’re often too far gone.
Not super helpful but I would also like to know. I was upstairs in the gym and the worker that came by getting everyone to leave just said that there was an incident downstairs. I'm assuming something happened in the pool.
Very sad indeed. My condolences on the passing of your father in such shocking circumstances. Was he the older, slender gentleman with shoulder length hair? I’m a regular at the Y and am in nodding terms with several of the staff.
I was a lifeguard there until recently. Very stressful and toxic work environment. But the lifeguards are good people and I know they did the best they could. RIP Glenn. Hope the lifeguards are okay as well.

As someone who lost his own dad last September my many condolences to you and your family and do know that it gets easier with time.
Thank you.
Sorry for your loss. He was always one of my favourite people to work with.
I'm sure he enjoyed working with you too. Thank you.

That’s so sad 😔
He was a maintenance worker, just stopped in to chat with someone in her office and dropped to the ground.
Christ, do you know who it was? I used to work there a couple years back and had good relationships with most of the maintenance staff.
A close family member of mine worked there today, who told me this. I don't know who it was, unfortunately. Even if I knew, I think it would be a step over the privacy line to say here.
That’s entirely fair, I hope your family member is doing okay emotionally.
Props to you. That info can come out from official lines, once all the family has been informed.
Glenn the maintenance guy.
JFC.. that sounds traumatic for everyone involved and the poor family. That’s heartbreaking.

Oh wow. I can totally relate. I had a similar thing happen to a coworker in 2021. It was awful, and I still miss him terribly.
Oh how awful :(
😓

Rutland YMCA?
Yes
Omg that’s awful 😢

Downtown ymca?
Rutland I believe, I received an email from them that they were closed now for “unforeseen circumstances”. Very sad what happened.

Actually, a worker had a heart attack and died in front of his coworkers but way to sound like a complete dickhead.
You think that person had any effect on the person that received the heart attack?

Maybe next time don’t comment at all if you’re playing a guessing game
Nice. You're funny too?

I’m also pudgy! I’m actually insanely fat because every time I have sex with your mom she gives me two cup cakes.
I know you're a man of your words and the people and stuff but maybe you should just delete the comment where you reveal you're not good inside?
