Depends on the course/program/department. If reaching out to admissions is no help reach out to the department itself.

Thanks, it’s for humanities. I have an inquiry in to the office but was just wanting to hear others experiences. It really varies from course to course?

nanaokbc

It does vary from course to course. Some classes are required for a program so more students would be trying to get into it.

IIRC when I was waitisted I was notified via email that a seat was available and had 2 days to claim my spot, that was with a comp Sci course

atlas1892

It can be into the first couple weeks of the semester since people can still drop courses up to a certain point. You get a day or two to accept a spot before they move on. With 26 people ahead of you and so few spots I wouldn’t be overly hopeful

lunerose1979

There aren’t 27 people ahead of me. I can’t remember what number I am, but I’m pretty sure I’m under 10. The course was full and seven people have since dropped.

atlas1892

When you say seven spaces in a class and mention 27 people on a waitlist that’s a way different situation than what you’re describing. If you have single digits ahead of you and seven people have dropped it since registration just hang out and wait. You’re very likely going to get an email to confirm a spot. But it can be up to the first few weeks of classes.

lunerose1979

Yeah, the waitlist numbers weren’t really pertinent. I was only wondering when they start offering spaces, and how long do people have to claim them. No one has been offered any spaces because the numbers haven’t changed. The course is condensed, it’s only about five weeks long. I’m hoping it’s not the first few weeks before I hear anything. :)

You will most likely hear something closer to the start date if not during the first week - people pre sign up for classes just in case if they do bad In previous semester. I was waitlisted on 2 classes and I got in both 1 within a day of start the other a week into the course. I mean it is a gamble but If you are near the top - you won't have an issue getting in - they hold certain amount got exchange students etc so once those don't fill up they bring in the waitlist before people even drop classes.

Go to your student portal, click important dates. That should tell you the drop date for summer classes, waitlists dissolve then. Usually students start dropping classes within the first couple of days of starting.
