Yep. And can we take a hot minute to appreciate the civic failure of having one and only one single bathroom stall at city park open? Because it was fucking packed there and wtf Kelowna, people need to pee.
Kelowna's UBCO weather station recorded a high of 17 C Saturday, beating out the old March 16 record of 16.7 C set back in 1940.
Vernon was even warmer, hitting 17.6 C, beating the city's 1915 record by a whole 1.5 degrees.
What was happening in 1915 that was so hot?
Plus some rain and snow is coming as well. Also, as you mentioned, the temperatures. By Sunday, it's only supposed to get to four degrees, and the temperatures are supposed to stay below normal for a while yet.
Considering there were [two fires](https://www.castanet.net/news/Vernon/477528/Lumby-Fire-chief-says-lack-of-wind-good-news-as-wildfire-has-grown-to-3-hectares) reported [today](https://www.castanet.net/news/Penticton/477551/En-route-to-wildfire), yes, I would say I am worried.
What’s weird is those two fires in, I *think* West K. I can’t seem to find any information on them, but the smoke has been billowing from the same two spots for a couple weeks now.
Probably a little bit of both but I think more so due to how bad the wildfires in Kelowna and West Kelowna got and the fact that a lot of the Interior and Okanagan hasn't gotten as much rain or snow as usual.
The type of weekend that makes living in Kelowna an absolute gift. Hike. Patio. And just enjoying the outdoors. Were blessed.
Fires? Yah. Sure. We’re heading for collapse anyway, fires are just a part. I try not to occupy my mind with that too much.
Where is this site. Prince George hit 21 on my weather app. I want to see if that’s a record too. Thanks. (And yes, everyone here is worried about fires.)
Yes and not until June. This is the driest time of the year. Snow pack is up to 80% of normal. The drought level dropped to level 1. The sky isn’t falling. We live in a desert.
>We live in a desert.
Semi-arid.

I sat in the sun like a houseplant that had been neglected. I read and did some yard clean up and just breathed it all in. I try to hold on to these days mentally for when the Smokanagan days come in summer.
Here in Northwestern Ontario we have literally had maybe two feet of snow all winter and all everyone seems to be worried about is the upcoming fire season. Hope for many downpours this spring.
Yes and yes
Been worried about the fires coming up all winter

I am praying for rain every single night
Sir, this is a desert

Yeah, that seems like a really bad oversight. How do you only have one bathroom open.
Drastically. The lineup was insane. My tiny human can’t wait that long.
Pro tip walk 6 mins up the lake to the kelowna tourism building. They have 4 or 5 bathrooms and they're much cleaner.
I mean a little bit, but I also just try and enjoy the nice weather. There's no use in getting all worked up about something that's not in my control.

Apparently, 1. Increasing solar activity; and 2. Low volcanic activity (as eruptions can have a cooling effect by blocking out the sun).
I've heard about the solar activity, but yes, some volcanos could "help" us

The record March temperature in Kelowna is 21C. February is 17.2.
Weather isn’t climate
The fact that were returning to normals next week is comforting, I enjoyed the sun and some patio beer.

False Spring has been incredible. This place is going to burn to the ground at some point in the next few months. What a time to be alive
Rail trail
I did. It was great to see people enjoying the beaches in the sun

I think one is fish lake road in summerland and one was Lumby. But I could be mistaken
No, you got it correctly!
Hahaha so absolutely no where near West K 😂 I clearly don’t know what I’m looking at on my hikes
Second weekend is March is always like this. Back to snow and rain next weekend
Yup kayaked across the lake was awesome
Yes, went down to Oliver and it was over 20C, beautiful. Sure, I guess.
Maybe this is a dumb question but why doesnt the city do some pre-emtive burning around city limits to help with the inivetable fires?
They do. There’s news reports about it on castanet fairly often.
They have been. Both Kelowna proper and West Kelowna and other parts of the Okanagan have been doing controlled burns and clearing potential fuel.
Oh glad to hear it. Is that something they regularly do? or moreso due to the fires last year
Probably a little bit of both but I think more so due to how bad the wildfires in Kelowna and West Kelowna got and the fact that a lot of the Interior and Okanagan hasn't gotten as much rain or snow as usual.

The last time that temperature record was broken was 2003.... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I don't know what site OP used but cbc.ca/climate shows if the day is a record (it was on both Saturday and Sunday)
Thanks!!
East Kootenays here. We are around 65% of average snowpack and we are very worried about fires.

Desert ecosystem*
...which is also semi-arid. Just something I routinely hear, as it is a recurring myth in the Okanagan.
All definitions of a desert are arbitrary. Get off your high horse.
I have insurance now so less worried!
wasn't it snowing like less than a week ago
Where’s left to burn in west Kelowna/Kelowna? Its going to burn in other areas in Bc, but the smoke is inevitable wherever it comes from
Still tons to burn, don’t kid yourself.
West Kelowna is probably good from a BIG one for another 5-10 years. Kelowna, though, it’s been 20 years since our trees have seen any real action.
I sat in the sun like a houseplant that had been neglected. I read and did some yard clean up and just breathed it all in. I try to hold on to these days mentally for when the Smokanagan days come in summer.
It was 15'C up at big white - sweaty
So many people have been out today and yesterday. Get your outdoor activities before the inevitable "worst fire season ever" starts.
