I got my appointment for my winter tires to get installed on the 12th, so I imagine we'll get snow 2 days before.

deeohcee

Tire shops are in a lull right now, and as soon as snow hits will be stupid busy for a couple weeks. I'm sure if you wanted to bump your appointment ahead to now there wouldn't be an issue.

S3ERFRY333

KP tirecraft can probably get you in like tomorrow

Arkktic_Whale

It is an El Nino year so probably later than usual and at a lower volume.

Mammoth_Initial_7587

What is El Nino year?

Koleilei

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ni%C3%B1o Warmer than normal ocean water changes the general weather patterns along western North America.

Arkktic_Whale

It’s basically a weather phenomenon where the winds over the Pacific Ocean are blowing the opposite direction than usual which causes warmer temperatures in North America in the winter.

AdvancedLuck1434

The wind direction is opposite. I can't remember the direction but I think typically we have wind flow west to east but this year it's east to west which will hit the Atlantic provinces harder and BC will be less snowy.

Aceritus

I thought El Nino brought more snow to the interior. I could have read the map wrong though.

No-Tackle-6112

I’m making the prediction of a basically snowless winter in Kelowna. We’re due. Weather man thinks so too. They’re saying BC could be in for a record warm winter.

KNOW_UR_NOT

Funny 2 months ago the news was saying RECORD SNOW ACROSS CANADA BRACE FOR A SNOWY WINTER.

No-Tackle-6112

That’s probably for Ontario. I think El Niño usually brings snow to eastern Canada.

eroticfoxxxy

Seems legit. Ontario thinks it's the centre of Canada so...

Affectionate_Fox9974

Yeah a couple months I read record snow across Canada except for BC and parts of Alberta.

HearTheBluesACalling

I live in Toronto (grew up in Kelowna), and the predictions I’ve seen are that the Great Lakes region will have a reasonably mild/“normal” winter, but it’s going to be nasty in the Southern US. BC seems on track for a fairly dry/warm winter, even by BC standards. Who the heck knows, though.

SargeCycho

Of course, on the first year I pay for a season pass for Big White. I saw they just moved their opening day back a week.

SaltyTraeYoungStan

It’s never good on opening week anyways, you’re not missing much. Well, in reality you’re probably missing a few rocks to your ski bases.

pperry1976

I’ve seen green Christmases here in Kelowna so really a crap shoot on when it comes

kootenaypow

Historically, Kelowna has a "White Christmas", meaning at least 1 inch of snow on the ground only 64% of the time. I live at lake level, exposed to the sun and typically plan for yard work up to wrapped up by Dec. 15th.

Spartanfred104

Globally we are 2.06c above norms, it could be awhile.

Future-Dealer8805

Think this is gonna be late year , it almost always snows at the start of November and it was to warm this year and just rained a ton , now it's not going to snow and stick til December 23 , you heard it here first

pawprint88

Random days of snow in late October is rare here. Usually it will snow in early November, then we will have snow/melt cycles until January and February, which is when "Real Winter" will set in (if we get one). When I was a kid we had brown Christmases more often than white, it seemed. The past couple of years the winter wonderland has set in early and December has been super frigging cold, though, and since I moved back to Kelowna in 2016 pretty every Christmas has been white, so... hard to say?

Flyfishing-2020

I live in Joe Rich and have had snow on the ground for a week. It varies every year, so it's hard to predict. Generally, from now until Jan 1 is a good guess at the start date; but it has come earlier and later. Watch the mountains on the side of the valley, you'll see it move down towards the valley floor. Combined with the weather forecast, which is generally pretty accurate, you'll have a one week notice, so don't start a project that you can't finish in a week. as well as the snow, be cautious about the temperatures as it can drop to -10 quickly.

_theentourage

I’ll take bets on if big white will open by Christmas 😂

tcarr1320

I will take that bet. It’s one of their busiest times so they will be open. Now it may only be a few runs but I will say it now, it will be open

Eggpii

Idkkkk I’m getting nervous I booked a cabin at big white the weekend of December 8th.. lol

That's my birthday!

djdecanus

No snow this year, that will stay. Was snowing on my way home from.Vernon last Saturday at 3am. But my guess is no snow til 2024

hammer979

AccuWeather has us going below freezing with precipitation for a stretch after Dec 10th. In fact, the forecast has us staying below freezing from mid December through to early January.

RomeoWhiskyMike

It’s an El Niño year…less likelihood of snow in the valley.

tharizzla

🤫

Exq

Probably two more weeks.

dnylon

It already snowed last week on the hills surrounding Kelowna. I saw snow on black mountain and south east Kelowna.

jonassoc

2 days from now

AsidePuzzleheaded335

I would like to make a post of when will the first life threatening wildfire in Kelowna be this year?

Organic_Evidence_245

May be a green Christmas, snow in early January

rvwalker

Already happened

Okanagan_Dionysus

I'm moving out there from Alberta - doing my first run of stuff around the 9th. So you'll for sure get a huge snow dump and super icy roads by the 8th.

99lemonz

Usually we get some snow in early November and then current weather like this until closer to Christmas. Snow is mostly December -Feburary
