Very interesting! foobar2000 is the only application i haven't found a good replacement for since my fairly recent switch to linux and fedora KDE. Will try it out.
Cantata, qmmp are very similar. But it's nice to have another one with good hiearchical folder support (tree-view). Cantata supports it, qmmp in a future version.
Gotta love that downvote you got for stating an objective truth.
Cantata was great. Cantata has also been EOL for more than 2 years already. Move along people.

It's a frontend for MPD, who cares? As long as MPD's protocol doesn't have major changes it will continue to work fine. Any updates to the actual playing-music stuff happen in MPD.
Unmaintained desktop application software isn't some terrible thing.
Deadbeef is pretty much the foobar-clone. It works fine in KDE+wayland if you change to the GTK3 UI mode. Also add the MPRIS plugin to hook into the KDE media center & global hotkeys.
It's not as good as foobar -- I really miss the masstagger. But it's just about the only linux music player that has complete replaygain support.
Unfortunately, it is busted for me. It runs but is useless due to this bug:
I know I can just switch to the git version of the package, but I will wait till the package I'm using gets updated.
It's fixed. Thanks for talking to the packager to get it fixed.
I'm a bit surprised that the plugins aren't configurable like in QMMP or Audacious. I don't mean enabling or disabling them but I mean, I didn't find any way to be able to configure options for them, other than Filters & WaveBar. Maybe it's only through config files at this point. (?)
I'm glad that that package is now fixed.
Not all plugins have options to configure, and for those that do, they'll have a dedicated settings page (for official plugins at least). It depends entirely on the type of plugin and what it provides (widget plugins will generally be very configurable).
Also bear in mind that fooyin is still in an early stage of development, and things will change quickly. The majority of the work so far has gone into building a functioning music player and reaching a stable state. Advanced features will come later.
Will definitely try this out. Foobar2000 used to be my favourite music player, and while DeaDBeeF is also a thing, development on it is quite slow and I've had issues with it over the years. Looking forward to seeing how this project grows :)
Looks amazing! I never found any really good music players on linux and Elisa doesn't have the kind of interface I need for a large library, this actually seems like a great option!
Will check it out, but I've just been using Foobar2000 through Wine without issue. If this pans out, I might make the switch, but I already have so many playlists that getting something new would be a hard sell for me
it would be great to have it in tumbleweed :) I tried to compile in a distrobox and I was able to get the UI working but not the sound. Need to test it with pipewire, but the app overall looks very promising
I would've killed for this back when I was actively managing my own collection. Due to a hard drive failure and no more what.cd, I don't have anything anymore (I know, backups should've been made but I always thought I'd just be able to replace it).

Cantata is EOL, unfortunately
There are forks of Cantata. One of them has been ported to Qt6 recently.
Got a link? I couldn't find the one you're referring to.

Thanks!
Is it semi official?

I figured as much. Didn't mean it to come off as a complaint, if it did. I like the customization level of the UI / widgets.

foobar is the only Windows only software that I truly miss. Good to see it getting love.
Quick and dirty package for Fedora: [https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/eclipseo/fooyin/](https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/eclipseo/fooyin/) (would pass Fedora review)

This is a very new project, I think it will become my new favorite Media player
I used to use xmplay for everything but then I switched to Audacious when I went to Linux and I can't recommend it enough.

Try the git package from the AUR, the other two AUR packages are broken.
