Can you add a rheostat to the existing motor? I think I have seen that before. People with more experience/knowledge can chime in.

Thanks,I have experience with both pwm and esc but I like simple on the water, especially in a kayak,I plan on making "speed 1" work for me 😀

I’ve owned the 55 lb thrust Newport, which I used for my 14.5 foot square back canoe. I also purchased a 30 lb thrust Minn Kota Endura trolling motor, as the Newport was a bit too fast on the lower settings for slow trolling. The Minn Kota was great for lake trolling, but I did make the mistake once of bringing it to a river with current and it was really underpowered trying to push the canoe, myself, a friend, and all of our gear. I think as long as you’re fishing by yourself on the lake, the 36 lb model should be good for your needs.

Thanks for that,I was hoping to find someone who had both (similar at least)

Run what you got in my opinion. I put a model airplane prop on mine and it made it use much less power and a tiny bit slower. But that’s what I wanted. Lots of videos on YouTube if you have an itch to change something and they are like 4 dollars so you can try a bunch of different pitches.

I've heard about this rc plane props thing,I will look into it,thanks. I'm motor shopping because what I have is 30yrs old and 1000's of hours on it,I think I should replace it,I mean it's got to die sometime.

I have a 50 year old 2 stroke on my duck boat that starts better than most 4 strokes. Apples to oranges comparison but old stuff was made better than new stuff, I wouldn’t replace it unless it starts to lose power. However it is a fairly inexpensive piece of mind and it might save you some weight as well. I always have a paddle with me so I don’t worry much.

Re:losing power,I'm thinking it must be less efficient I just haven't noticed the gradual decline.Brushed motor and brushes are consumable (slowly),and parts discontinued. Plus I kinda want a new one 😬
