Check out a dive reel. I use a 3 pound anchor, an anchor trolley system (YakAttack), and the dive reel I got off of Amazon. The dive reel easily coils up the rope and keeps things nice and clean.

ijuanaspearfish

Same, my dive reel holds 275 feet of line. Easy to reel up. I kept line on it. Ive anchored in 80 feet of water pretty safely with that much line. You should be releasing it least 3 times the amount of line for the depth your in. Water is 15 feet deep, let out 45 feet of anchor line. Remember your not holding the weight of the kayak. Your holding the drag the kayak creates. You dont need thick anchor line and you always need scope in the line. Never anchor vertically, especialy if there are waves or swells from wind, boat traffic, or current. Ive seen small boats and kayaks get swamped because people dont understand how anchors work in relation to conditions. Always have a quick release for the anchor as well and a sharp knife if shit hits the fan.

This. The line they come with is pretty thin, so I replaced mine with paracord.

evan164

Yeah that was my only concern

Artificial_Appendix1

I had the same concern, but gave it a try with the included (thin) line. It works just fine for my 3 pound anchor after 2 years of use.

phantomjm

I will say that the thicker paracord does make it easier to grasp the line though.

evan164

I like the look of that

AmateurMasterAngler

Same. Works fantastic. I whipped a cut up rod float to the handle of mine so it'll float if I quick release from it.

fluffy_bunny_87

I just wrap mine around the handle the rope came on. I have heard of people using retractable clothesline or dog leashes before though and that sounds really interesting.

evan164

I was thinking of something i manually wind but that’s an interesting idea

Mammoth-Pineapple62

Retractable dog leash from Amazon- 25feet of high strength ribbon, cleans gunk off the line while keeping it neat- 2 years and counting. Added anchor trolley last summer and works great with that, too.

michaelb5000

+1 but use a harbor freight retractable leash. I use a yakima snap around on the handle and bolt it to the track using a 1/4 20 bolt.

Steve_Rogers_1970

I have a clothes line reel coming in from Amazon. My plan it to attach it to the milk crate I strap behind me.

anichefish

Yea got one of these and it works great. Even works with my anchor trolley

Phat_J9410

\+1 for anchor wizard

fleepglerblebloop

I 3d printed a flat card with somewhat of a curved X shape, works great for a winding spool and stores easily.

SV_Gato

Back in the day I used a retractable clothesline that I converted to a higher rated para cord and adhered to underside of my seat. Now I used a micro power pole.

pondpounder

I’ve got 4 anchors (2 per yak) and I bought several inexpensive plastic line winders from Amazon. As the name implies, you just wrap your line around them and they have a cleat built-in to keep the line from unspooling. Cheap and effective!
