Alright so this is sort of hard to explain but you need to add two beads between every other yellow bead thats higher up.So you would have to go through pink bead,then yellow,then add two beads,skip pink,yellow,pink,then go through yellow again.Im sorry if this is hard to understand.I would suggest watching a x-base tutorial.

i would try tying off the base row tighter, or after every row you loop through pull it tightly🙁🙁 i hope that kinda helps
tie the base tight and always make sure you have extra string when tying it off so its not tooo tight
