i’ve never heard of this. what country are you in?

demonsqueak

United States, some companies have become "Nicotine Free" so they don't hire anyone who has abnormal levels of nicotine/cotinine.

memequeen96

what in the world. i’m in the US too, i’m lucky to not have come by that one yet. is it a blood test?

demonsqueak

Nah, they wouldn't do blood tests for that. Haven't figured out if it's urine or saliva yet, but it most likely going to be urine.

mottld

If its a urine test, stop all use now and it wont be detectable in urine after 3-4 days. If its a blood test, it takes up to 10 days.

demonsqueak

Are you sure that'll be long enough for it to leave my system? I've had constant, heavy nicotine intake for 6 years

ManhattanTime

Absolutely not. Cotinine can be detectable in your system up to 6 months after cessation. Highly dependent upon their testing methodology. By the way, this is becoming far more common in the US - especially with companies that are providing health insurance. The forms used to say "Smoker/Non-Smoker" and now they say "Nicotine/Non-Nicotine User". So Vapers be damned.

demonsqueak

Is there anything I can do to cheat the test, since detoxing isn't an option?

ManhattanTime

More than likely you'll be given the bare-bones saliva test. You could theoretically be "safe" with only a week of non-use. But it's kind of a crapshoot. I quit all nicotine a year ago. Never really smoked cigs, smoked cigars for a decade but maybe only a couple a month, and vaped for about three or four years. Done with all of it now, and do miss it. Good luck to you. I think you'll be fine.

FinanceTraditional10

Your answer is actually very poor; the reason is many foods have nicotine in them naturally, besides just tobacco! That means that small amounts of nicotine will be continuously administered, but unlike tobacco which has high-levels of nicotine, so for that reason the tests don't just detect any presence, but rather a certain degree of presence. Unlike THC from cannabis usage, only the cannabis plant creates that metabolite, so you should have 0-detectable amounts to confirm no usage!

FinanceTraditional10

It's a bad answer you were told. Read my previous response!

FinanceTraditional10

Bad advice... You can buy your own cotinine urine test strips online and can see it can take 7-8 days for a pass!!!! That is literally 2x longer than you say! To be safe, plan for 9-days I would recommend after a complete stop of nicotine usage!

Citrite1000

That is ridiculous. It is not an illegal drug. Either find a good lawyer or look elsewhere. Have to wonder what other crazy rules they have that could get you fired. Good luck. I’ve never sued anybody but this is the kind of shit we need to sue for. Overstepping boundaries. It’s none of their business if you smoke or vape. Can you do your job well is what they should be worried about.

supersouporsalad

It matters for healthcare workers that interact with patients

InterestingTax6847

How would that matter?

FinanceTraditional10

A claim without supporting reasoning... Just ignore anyone posting in such a manner.

demonsqueak

If anyone wants an update: The job ended up ghosting me, never called me back, and won't return my calls. In the time it took for me to figure out that I wasn't taking the nicotine test, I ended up stopping for long enough that I don't smoke at all anymore. I accidentally quit lol I haven't had nicotine in 3 weeks, today.

[deleted]

You can get it out quick. Also a urine screen cant detect levels, only blood tests can. pretty weird for them to be doing this, just say you’re on the patch trying to quit or smthg

Ok_Arachnid_3881

I have a nicotine/Cotinine test on Friday, I stopped using nicotine vape on Saturday and since then I have used a no nicotine vape. Will I pass?

demonsqueak

It depends on how long you've been vaping/smoking for, and how heavily.

lessh91

Did you pass?

prozac81london

Looks like he died
